Seventh-day Adventists Gather to Celebrate Supremacy of Jesus

Over 700 young adults and church leaders gathered in Seattle, February 13-14, to celebrate the supremacy of Jesus. The One Project , attended by an enthusiastic group, exploded from just five friends who met in 2010 with a passion to make Jesus #1 in their lives. Young leaders, with fresh perspectives, chose examples from the early history of the church to equate where the church is today in terms of making Jesus the core of who we are.

North American Division Administration Releases Update on E60 Policy

On October 31, at the 2011 North American Division (NAD) Year-end Meeting, executive committee members voted to affirm the Working Policy E 60 (Conference/Mission President) as it is written in the 2010-2011 Working Policy book to state the following:  E 60 Conference/Mission President Inasmuch as the conference/mission president stands at the head of the ministry in the conference/mission and is the chief elder, or overseer of all the churches, a conference/mission president should be an ordained/commissioned minister.  After careful study and consultation with   the General Conference Office of General Counsel the North American Division Executive Committee (NADCOM), on Thursday, January 19, voted to ask the Division President to write a letter to the full Committee advising them that the Division did not have the authority to change the wording of the E-60 Policy and that the word “commissioned” would be omitted in the 2011-2012 edition of the NAD Working Policy.

Creative Fund Raising for Refugees.

Thumbnail

Prompted by the 13 th Sabbath Offering Emphasis   Alice Pierson, Sabbath School leader for the Sunnydale Church in Centralia, Missouri called me in October to find out the price of Bibles for refugees.  Her thoughts were that if she told the members that the goal was to raise $1,000 for refugees, they would probably throw up their hands thinking they could never afford to give that much. However, if she told them the price of a Bible, they might feel that they could buy one or two Bibles for refugees and would probably end up raising more funds than if they merely set a general goal.    So she developed a goal device on a bulletin board with the title “Love Gifts for Jesus = Bibles for Refugees” and a map of the North American Division, and put a picture of a Bible on the bulletin board for every $25 raised, since Karen Bibles cost approximately $25 with shipping from Asia. (See picture.)   Her plan worked.
