“Franklin” is a Canadian TV show for kids about a turtle and his friends. In fact, I wasn’t even sure that it was a Canadian show until I googled it… I suppose the animals (a beaver, a moose, a muskrat, a goose, a bear) should have tipped me off. Also, there is the preoccupation with skating and hockey. My son loves “Franklin” and he’s been begging to go skating for months now. I didn’t think he was quite ready, and truthfully, I really didn’t feel like hauling myself around the ice, either. But today when we went to the swimming pool, we discovered it was closed to the public because of lessons, so we had to save the day somehow. The place we swim at has all sorts of sporty options, so this morning we rented some skates and I took him onto the ice. I’ve never seen a kid work so hard at learning how to skate. He fell again and again, and he just kept on getting up. We had those metal bar things for the kids to hold onto while they learn, but he would have nothing of it. He wanted to skate on his own or not at all
