Jim Minty, teacher at Shenandoah Valley Adventist Elementary School, was presented with a national award on Tuesday, May 14. Minty is among 10 teachers selected this spring by the Alumni Awards Foundation (AAF) to receive a 2013 Excellence in Teaching Award.

Special commemoration service to be held     This year we have been marking the Sesquicentennial of the establishment of the Seventh-day Adventist Church , and will continue to do so through December 31st. On May 20-21, at North American Division (NAD) and General Conference (GC) headquarters, we will be marking the precise 150th anniversary of the first GC Session – the beginnings of the NAD, the GC, and the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist® Church. We will be using this commemoration to thank God for His leading, and recommit ourselves to the prophetic mission He entrusted to the remnant Church

Oakwood University Comes in First, Wins $50,000 in Home Depot Contest

Oakwood University, an Adventist higher education institution in Huntsville, Alabama, won the Retool Your School contest that Home Depot sponsored over recent months. Its 1,939 students came in ahead of larger schools, reported The Huntsville Times yesterday

Roanoke Adventist students create crafts inspired by Mill Mountain Zoo

Children from the Roanoke Adventist Preparatory School recently visited Mill Mountain Zoo. They were inspired to make beautiful papier-mache faces of their favorite animals, including a barn owl, snow leopard, red wolf, great horned owl, pallas cat and porcupine.   The animal faces may be viewed in the display case at the Blue Ridge Library.
