πŸ‘‘ The King Is Coming Soon – Hope Beyond the End

🌺 August 31 – Growing Spiritually Every Day: Christ Will Complete His Work

Monthly Theme: Sanctification and Character Development – Being Ready When Jesus Comes
2026 Annual Theme: β€œSoon the King Will Come – Hope Beyond the End”

πŸ“– Key Bible Text for the Day

β€œBut grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
β€” 2 Peter 3:18

πŸŒ… Devotional for the Day

At the end of this month, we hear once again a simple yet decisive call: Grow. The spiritual life is not a state of stagnation. Those who belong to Christ do not remain where they were yesterday. God’s grace calls us daily to go farther and deeper, drawing ever closer to Jesus. This growth does not take place through human ambition, religious self-improvement, or an attempt to present our accomplishments before God. It takes place in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the month of August, we have been reminded that sanctification and character development are part of our preparation for the second coming of Jesus. We have seen that Christ desires to cleanse our hearts, bring order to our thoughts, shape our words, heal our relationships, strengthen our patience, deepen our faithfulness in little things, and make our lives vessels for His honor. All these themes lead to one great truth: God does not prepare us superficially, but transforms us from within.

Spiritual growth is often quiet. Sometimes we hardly notice it. We may see what is still missing more readily than what God has already accomplished. Yet this is part of genuine maturity: Those who draw closer to Christ do not become prouder of themselves, but increasingly dependent upon His grace. They see more clearly how deeply they need Jesus while also recognizing more fully how faithful He is. True sanctification does not make us self-satisfied, but grateful, watchful, and humble.

The call to grow is therefore not a call to despair, but to hope. God does not demand that we perfect ourselves. He calls us to remain in Christ. He calls us to take His Word seriously, live a life of prayer, give the Holy Spirit room to work, and trust His grace anew each day. God does not leave the work He begins half-finished. He continues to work faithfully in every heart that opens itself to Him.

Being ready when Jesus comes does not mean staring fearfully at our own imperfections. It means looking with complete surrender to Christ, who forgives, cleanses, transforms, and perfects. The coming King is not only the Judge of the world, but also the Redeemer of His people. Through truth and grace, He prepares His children so that their characters may reflect His love.

✨ Growing in Grace

Grace is not only the beginning of faith, but also the power that enables growth. We begin with grace, live by grace, and are perfected through grace. Those who grow in grace learn to trust more deeply, return to Christ more quickly, become more honest before God, and treat others with greater mercy.

Ellen G. White wrote:

β€œOnly those who have become like Christ can stand when He appears.”

(Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 413)

Christlikeness is the goal of character development. Yet it does not grow apart from Christ. It develops as His grace touches our hearts daily and His Spirit shapes our lives.

🌿 Growing in the Knowledge of Jesus

Peter speaks not only about grace, but also about the knowledge of Jesus Christ. This knowledge is more than information about Jesus. It is personal fellowship with Him. Those who know Jesus better see His love more clearly, understand His patience more deeply, recognize the beauty of His purity, and discover the greatness of His faithfulness. Through this, the heart is transformed.

The more we behold Christ, the more self loses its dominion. Pride is broken, fear becomes quieter, bitterness is released, impurity is exposed, and indifference is overcome. This happens not because we continually focus on ourselves, but because we look to the One who alone can save and transform us.

πŸ•Š Christ Will Complete What He Has Begun

At the end of this month, we may look not only backward, but also forward. Sanctification is a continuing journey. Tomorrow, Christ will call us again. Tomorrow, His grace will be new again. Tomorrow, we will receive new opportunities to grow in patience, love, faithfulness, humility, purity, peace, and trust.

Perhaps during this month, you became aware of areas in your character that still require transformation. Do not allow this realization to discourage you. It can be a gift from God if it draws you closer to Jesus. He does not reveal our weaknesses in order to destroy us, but to heal us. He does not expose them in order to reject us, but to cleanse us. He does not call us in order to overwhelm us, but to perfect us.

The coming King prepares His people day by day. Therefore, our prayer at the end of this month can be simple yet profound: Lord, let me continue to grow. Keep me close to Christ. Shape my character through Your grace. Complete Your work within me until Jesus comes.

πŸ™ Prayer

Dear Father in Heaven,

thank You for enabling me to grow through Your grace.

Help me not to remain where I am, but to draw closer to Christ every day.

Shape my character through Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your faithful love.

Protect me from pride, discouragement, and spiritual indifference.

Complete within me the work You have begun and prepare me for the second coming of Jesus.

Amen.

πŸ’ Thought for the Day

Spiritual growth takes place where a heart remains in grace each day and comes to know Christ more deeply.

πŸ’‘ Personal Application

  1. Read 2 Peter 3:18 and Philippians 1:6.
In what areas has God helped you grow during this month, and where would you like to open yourself more fully to Him?
  2. Pray: β€œLord, let me grow in Your grace and in the knowledge of Jesus.”
  3. Practical step: Write down one area in which Christ should continue shaping your character, and consciously surrender it to Him in prayer today.

🌺 Closing Verse

β€œBeing confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
β€” Philippians 1:6
