📖 Daily Bible Reading: 🙏 Job 32

🔥 Elihu Takes the Floor

✨ When Youthful Zeal Seeks the Truth

🌐 Read online here

📍 Introduction

After Job finishes his defense and his three friends can no longer find an answer, a new person steps into the foreground: Elihu. He has listened silently to the entire discussion because he is younger than the others. But now he is deeply stirred and convinced that he must speak. Job chapter 32 opens a new section of the book and shows that true understanding comes not merely from age, but from the Spirit of God.

🧵 Commentary

At the beginning of the chapter, we are told that Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar stop answering Job. They have failed to convince him, and they have run out of arguments. Yet the debate is not over.

Elihu, the son of Barachel, has listened carefully to the entire conversation. His anger is directed in two ways: against Job, because Job seems more concerned with justifying himself than God, and against the three friends because they failed to provide a convincing answer and yet still condemned Job.

Until now, Elihu has remained silent out of respect for the older men. In his culture, it was natural for younger people to listen first and allow their elders to speak.

But now he realizes that old age does not automatically guarantee wisdom.

He says, “It is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.” In these words, Elihu expresses an important truth. Genuine wisdom is not simply the result of many years of life—it is a gift from God.

Elihu emphasizes that he has carefully examined everything that has been said. None of the three friends has truly refuted Job. Their arguments have been exhausted, even though they believed they had found wisdom.

Now Elihu feels inwardly compelled to speak. He compares himself to a wineskin filled with new wine that is ready to burst. Yet his words are not meant to flatter anyone or to take sides. He wants to speak openly about what he believes to be true.

Elihu’s zeal is remarkable, but his speech must be examined just as carefully as the words of the others. He recognizes several important truths, yet he also does not fully understand the deeper reality behind Job’s suffering.

Job chapter 32 reminds us that we must learn both to listen and to speak. Humility does not mean remaining silent forever. But anyone who speaks in the name of truth needs God’s Spirit, self-examination, and a heart that is not ruled by pride or personal indignation.

🧺 Summary

Job 32 introduces Elihu as a new speaker. He is angry with both Job and his three friends and explains that true wisdom does not depend merely on age, but on the Spirit of God. After listening for a long time, he feels compelled to express his thoughts openly.

🔦 Message for Us Today

God can give understanding to people of every age. Young people should be willing to listen, and older people should remain willing to learn. What matters is not who is speaking, but whether what is being said agrees with God’s truth and is shared in a humble spirit.

📝 Reflection

Do I first take time to listen carefully—and do I ask God for wisdom before expressing my opinion about others?
