"To see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.” What a powerful sentiment! To Jacob, a restored relationship felt like being in God’s presence. Christ-followers are called to be the face of God to others. Our relationships are to be so loving and grace-fueled that when people are around us they feel like they are experiencing God’s presence. The state of your relationships reveals the state of your heart. And the state of your heart will reveal itself on your face. Ellen White once wrote that people have an atmosphere around them that influences others. Today, science reveals that a person’s heartbeat will register on another person’s brainwaves up to 10 feet away. If your heartbeat is accelerated due to stress or anger, it registers on a person’s brain. What a powerful influence our emotions and thoughts have on others, for good or for evil. We either reveal God’s love or distort His heart. Scarred hearts, broken by sin and destructive relationships, are limping through life, looking for someone who cares. How will your face make them feel?
