The Seventh-day Adventist Church established Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1896 to educate newly freed African-Americans in the South. Its mission is to transform students through Biblically-based education for serving God and humanity. To this day, the institution, formed by prominent Seventh-day Adventist World Church leaders, including co-founder and author, Mrs. Ellen G. White, continues to carry out its purpose of becoming the Lord's hands and feet in their community. The institution launched many initiatives to accomplish God's mission, observing Revelation 14 and Matthew 25 by giving God glory in the hour of His judgment, while also caring for the sick and needy. The current global status has not hampered the institution in fulfilling its mission, but rather has served as a springboard for launching several community-benefiting programs. Many individuals in their community have benefited and been blessed by its different projects, which God has used to proclaim the gospel and care for His children. Be blessed and ready to respond to the call and say, "Here I am, Lord, I will go!" Want to learn more about the Seventh-day Adventist Church?
