A recent widow, an outsider to the Israelite community and a woman seemingly unable to fend for herself in those times – there were plenty of reasons why life was difficult for her. So it would have been surprising to Naomi when Ruth said she would stay by her side and go wherever she went and worship the same God, Jehovah, that Naomi worshipped.
