The Ishmaelite merchants sold Joseph to Potiphar. Joseph thus entered a foreign household as a slave, far from his family, far from Canaan, and seemingly far from the dreams God had given him.

His household was not an ordinary one. It was connected with power, administration, and royal authority. The people under his roof lived in a world in which commands, rank, and responsibility played a major role.
One day, a young Hebrew who had lost everything yet had not been abandoned by God entered this household.
Joseph Is Sold
Joseph had been sold by his brothers. What began with envy and betrayal within his family took him far away from his father Jacob and from the land of promise.
