Monday: The Immutability of God’s Law

May 26, 2024 By admin

Daily Lesson for Monday 27th of May 2024

Read Matthew 5:17-18; Psalms 111:7-8; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; 1 John 5:3; and Proverbs 28:9. What do these Bible passages teach regarding the Christian’s relationship to the law?

Seventh-day Adventists follow in the footsteps of the Protestant Reformers who upheld the sanctity of God’s law. Note this powerful affirmation of John Wesley: “The ritual or ceremonial law delivered by Moses to the children of Israel, containing all the injunctions and ordinances which related to the old sacrifices and service of the temple, our Lord indeed did come to destroy, to dissolve and utterly abolish. . . . But the moral law, contained in the Ten Commandments, and enforced by the prophets, he did not take away.

The Ten Commandments

Image © Review & Herald Publishing at Goodsalt.com

It was not the design of his coming to revoke any part of this. This is a law which never can be broken, which ‘stands fast as the faithful witness in heaven.’ . . . Every part of this law must remain in force, upon all mankind, and in all ages; as not depending either on time or place, or any other circumstances liable to change, but on the nature of God and the nature of man, and their unchangeable relation to each other.”—“Upon Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount,” Discourse V, John Wesley’s Sermons: An Anthology (Nashville, TN: Abington Press, 1991), pp. 208, 209.

Compare Exodus 34:5-7 with Romans 7:11-12; Psalms 19:7-11; Psalms 89:14; and Psalms 119:142,172. What do these verses tell us about the relationship between God’s law and God’s character?

Since the law of God is a transcript of His character, the foundation of His throne, and the moral basis for humanity, Satan hates it. “None could fail to see that if the earthly sanctuary was a figure or pattern of the heavenly, the law deposited in the ark on earth was an exact transcript of the law in the ark in heaven; and that an acceptance of the truth concerning the heavenly sanctuary involved an acknowledgment of the claims of God’s law and the obligation of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. Here was the secret of the bitter and determined opposition to the harmonious exposition of the Scriptures that revealed the ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary.”—Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 435.

What are the reasons people often give to argue that we no longer are obligated to keep the Ten Commandments? What do you think is really behind it?

9: The Foundation of God’s Government – Singing with Inspiration

May 26, 2024 By admin

Our learning this quarter will show us that
God Is Working His Purpose Out – Hymn 225 so that we will Lift Up The Trumpet because
Jesus Is Coming Again – Hymn 213. You may have two hymns from which to choose for your theme hymn this quarter.

The Sabbath afternoon introduction to the week’s study raises three wonderful hymns:
Hymn 177 – Jesus, Your Blood And Righteousness,
Hymn 385 – Crowning Jewel Of Creation and
Hymn 2 – All Creatures Of Our God And King.

Sunday gives us the amazement of
What A Wonderful Saviour – Hymn 335 showing us
The Unveiled Christ – Hymn 178 and that
There Is A Foundation – Hymn 336 filled with the blood of Jesus from which all my choose to accept.

The Sabbath proves that God and Jesus are
Lord Of Creation – Hymn 320 and that our Creator is our redeemer:
Hymn 337/338 – Redeemed. Oh, that we all may say
We Love Thy Sabbath, Lord – Hymn 390. These hymns are portrayed throughout the rest of the week of study.

May we continue to search the scriptures this week to be blessed and to bless many others.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org/Search and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

May 25, 2024 By admin

BREAKING NEWS: Legalists across the Adventist world were rushed to hospital today after sustaining panic attacks at the unwelcome report from leading denominational theologians that non-Adventists will be in heaven. Lesson 9.The Foundation of God’s Government | 9.1 The Sanctuary and the Law

May 25, 2024 By admin

Lesson 9.The Foundation of God’s Government
The Fundamentals of Faith: Law, Sabbath, and End-Time Conflict
In the ninth lesson of our study series, we delve into the fundamental principles that form the foundation of God’s rule and sovereignty. This lesson is titled “The Foundation of God’s Government” and takes a deep look at the principles of worship and loyalty to the Creator.
In Revelation, particularly in Chapter 14, we find an urgent message urging us to make a clear decision – the choice between true worship of the Creator and the worship of false gods or systems. This decision has not only theological but also practical implications for our daily lives and our faith.
In our introduction, we will illuminate the central themes of this lesson: the significance of worshiping the Creator, the warning against false gods, and the connection between our everyday lives and our faith. By understanding these principles, we can delve deeper into the truth and align our lives accordingly to honor God and follow His will.

9.1 The Sanctuary and the Law
The Sanctuary and the Immutable Law of God
Read Revelation 11:19; Exodus 25:16; 31:18, and Revelation 12:17. According to these verses, what was inside the Ark of the Covenant in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary?
According to the mentioned verses, the Ark of the Covenant in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary was a central place of great significance. According to the scriptures, it contained the Ten Commandments of God, written on stone tablets. These symbolized the immutable and sacred law of God. The golden cover of the Ark of the Covenant, called the mercy seat, was the place where blood was sprinkled to cleanse sins and to manifest God’s presence.
Revelation describes how the apostle John saw the heavenly sanctuary and the Ark of the Covenant became visible. This depiction illustrates the continuity and the sacred nature of the divine law represented in the heavenly sanctuary.
The comments emphasize the significance of God’s law, especially regarding the Sabbath, and argue that despite the cross and redemption through Christ, it continues to endure. This underscores the theological perspective that God’s law was not abolished but rather plays a crucial role in God’s plan of redemption.
Overall, this reflection highlights the importance of the Ark of the Covenant and the divine law within the framework of the sanctuary and emphasizes the theological doctrine of the continuity and sanctity of God’s law.
Think about the Sabbath, which comes to us every week at 1600 km/h – without exception. What does this tell us about the significance of the doctrine of creation? What other doctrine has such a strong and recurring reminder function?
The Sabbath, returning with remarkable regularity every week, offers a fascinating perspective on the significance of the doctrine of creation. Through its unchanging recurrence, unaffected by human actions, the Sabbath continuously reminds us of God’s act of creation. It symbolizes God’s sovereignty over time and space, as well as His role as the Creator and ruler of the universe.
This regular reminder function of the Sabbath emphasizes the importance of the doctrine of creation as a fundamental theological truth. The creation story in the book of Genesis serves as the foundation of faith and reminds us that God is the origin and source of all life.
No other doctrine has such a strong and recurring reminder function as the doctrine of creation, symbolized by the Sabbath. While other beliefs and doctrines convey important principles and truths, the doctrine of creation offers a unique perspective on the relationship between God and His creation, as well as the fundamental principles of order and time.
Through the Sabbath, we are reminded week by week that we are part of a universe created by God and protected by His care. This regular reminder invites us to reflect on our role as stewards of creation and to deepen our relationship with God and His creation.

The connection between the Sabbath as a regular reminder of the doctrine of creation and the sanctuary with the immutable law of God lies in their common emphasis on God’s sovereignty, holiness, and constancy. Both the Sabbath and the Ten Commandments, preserved in the Ark of the Covenant in the sanctuary, symbolize God’s unchanging character and His authority over creation.
The Sabbath reminds us week by week of God’s act of creation and His rule over time and space. Similarly, the Ten Commandments of God in the sanctuary illustrate the holiness and immutability of God’s law. These teachings remind us that God reigns as Creator and Lawgiver over all aspects of our lives.
The regular recurrence of the Sabbath and the emphasis on the immutable law of God in the sanctuary have a strong and recurring reminder function in our daily lives and faith. They invite us to deepen our relationship with God by being aware of His sovereignty, holiness, and constancy. By observing the Sabbath and respecting the Ten Commandments as expressions of divine wisdom and love, we can strengthen our connection to God and recognize His greatness and glory in our lives.

God’s immutable law and the regular recurrence of the Sabbath remind us that we are part of a divinely created and protected universe, invited to deepen our relationship with God and His creation.

Found Wanting

May 25, 2024 By admin

And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. 1 Samuel 13:10.

God had directed that only those consecrated to the office should present sacrifices before Him. But Saul commanded, “Bring hither a burnt offering;” and, equipped as he was with armor and weapons of war, he approached the altar and offered sacrifice before God…. If Saul had fulfilled the conditions upon which divine help was promised, the Lord would have wrought a marvelous deliverance for Israel, with the few who were loyal to the king. But Saul was so well satisfied with himself and his work that he went out to meet the prophet as one who should be commended rather than disapproved.52Patriarchs and Prophets, 618.

Saul endeavored to vindicate his own course, and blamed the prophet, instead of condemning himself. There are today many who pursue a similar course. Like Saul they are blinded to their errors. When the Lord seeks to correct them, they receive reproof as insult, and find fault with the one who brings the divine message.

Had Saul been willing to see and confess his error, this bitter experience would have proved a safeguard for the future. He would afterward have avoided the mistakes which called forth divine reproof. But feeling that he was unjustly condemned, he would, of course, be likely again to commit the same sin.

The Lord would have His people, under all circumstances, manifest implicit trust in Him. Although we cannot always understand the workings of His providence, we should wait with patience and humility until He sees fit to enlighten us.53The S.D.A. Bible Commentary 2:1014, 1015.

Saul’s transgression proved him unworthy to be intrusted with sacred responsibilities…. Had he patiently endured the divine test, the crown would have been confirmed to him and to his house. In fact, Samuel had come to Gilgal for this very purpose. But Saul had been weighed in the balance, and found wanting. He must be removed to make way for one who would sacredly regard the divine honor and authority.54Ibid., 1015.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
When I was a baby, I somehow squirmed out of my mother’s arms and landed on my head. She was horrified at first but after checking me over carefully, she was very relieved that I was alright. It must have affected my balance, however, because I didn’t walk until I was nearly a year and a half. It took me two years to learn to ride a tricycle without falling. No matter how many times I fell, I got right back on and tried again. Because I didn’t give up, I eventually succeeded. Finally, by the age of seven, I could ride it with ease and at ten I could ride a regular bike although I fell a lot. I thought that was wonderful, for it gave me the freedom that I desired. I had recently gone to live with my mother and her new husband and I missed my grandparents terribly. I especially missed my grandfather. Now that I could ride a regular bicycle, I could ride it across Kalamazoo to visit them whenever I wanted.
Just as I persevered in learning to ride my bike until success was mine, so Paul explains that we need to have the same kind of persistence in our spiritual walk. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:13,14 The Christian walk is a warfare, “for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph 6:12 Success comes through accepting our Loving Redeemer’s sacrifice, through staying close to Him, through perseverance in the Christian walk for “he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” Matt 10:22 Paul urges us to “fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,” “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life.” 1 Tim 6:12; Phil 2:12-16 Nothing should be more important than than daily making sure that our heart is right with our Maker.
Daily, we must give our heart to Him Who promises, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Ps 32:8 Daily we must allow Him to lead us, to change us into His image through Bible study and prayer. Paul advises “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” Col 3:2-10
In following his Dear Saviour, Paul not only “pressed toward the mark” he also forgot “that which was behind:” so should we. How often we fail to forgive ourselves. We ask for forgiveness, but we do not feel forgiven. We try to make things right with those we have wronged, (and we should) but we still feel overwhelmed by our sins. We must exercise faith to believe that His blood has washed away our sins. John tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 This promise of forgiveness and cleansing is for us to claim daily. If we believe that we receive and we shall receive the forgiveness and cleansing we so much desire. (Matt 21:20)
Although forgiveness is ours, how often we continue carrying a heavy load that our Saviour longs to take away. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30 The wise man admonishes, “Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh. Ecc 11:10 Only through faith in our Great Redeemer is this possible, for the evil one wants to keep us oppressed. The devil whispers that we are too great a sinner, so we might as well give up. His plan is to keep us so focused on our past, that we take our eyes off from Jesus and fail to go forward in faith and lose the promised victory.
May we ask for forgiveness for all our sins and then leave the past in the past going forward with our hand in Jesus’ nail-scarred hand “being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil 1:6
