More Gifts: More Responsibility
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Matthew 25:14, 15.
To every man is given his work. One man may not be able to do the work for which another man has been trained and educated. But the work of every man must begin at the heart, not resting in a theory of the truth. The work of him who surrenders the soul to God and cooperates with divine agencies will reveal an able, wise workman, who discerns how to adapt himself to the situation. The root must be holy, or there will be no holy fruit. All are to be workers together with God. Self must not become prominent. The Lord has entrusted talents and capabilities to every individual, and those who are most highly favored with opportunities and privileges to hear the Spirit’s voice are under the heaviest responsibility to God.
Those who are represented as having but one talent have also their work to do. By trading, not with pounds, but with pence, they are diligently to employ their ability, determined not to fail nor be discouraged. They are to ask in faith, and depend upon the Holy Spirit to work upon unbelieving hearts. If they depend upon their own capabilities, they will fail. Those who faithfully trade upon the one talent will hear the gracious commendations spoken to them with as much heartiness as to those who have been gifted with many talents, and who have wisely improved them, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things” (Matthew 25:21).
It is the spirit of humility in which the work is done which God regards. He who had but one talent had an influence to exert, and his work was needed. In perfecting his own character, in learning in the school of Christ, he was exerting an influence that helped to perfect the character of those who had larger responsibilities, who were in danger of building themselves up, and of neglecting some important little things, which that faithful man with his one talent was regarding with diligent care.—Notebook Leaflets, vol. 1, 129, 130.

Dear Friends,
When we were younger, we used to go up in the mountains and camp. One time, when we lived in Utah, we found a nice spot up in the mountains. It was one of those “pack it in, pack it out” places. We set up our tent under the trees by the river. The next morning we were delighted to see an almost grown female moose very close to our camp. (My children learned at an early age to hold very still and be quiet when an animal was around, so it was a good experience for us.) She had been eating water plants and became curious to see what we were. She came within about 35 feet of our camp and watched us. We all stood very still and watched her. Her curiosity satisfied, she walked on and started eating water plants again. We followed at a distance and watched her until the children grew restless.
Moose have a bad temper and are very unpredictable, and that encounter could have turned out far differently. More than once when we lived in the Northwest, we have had to wait for a bull moose to get out of the road so we could keep driving to wherever we were going. Once we were able to get off the road and slowly drive in the grass to a side road in order to get around him. (We knew better than to honk at him.) I look forward to the time when we will not only be able to see the animals up close, but they will not be dangerous.
God has promised a time when “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ” Isa 11:6-9 Not only will we be able to interact with wild beasts, but we will live a life filled with nothing but happiness and joy. God has promised, “And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isa 65:21-24
What a wonderful time that will be! The animals will be gentle and friendly. We will have no fear of them and they will have no fear of us. We will be safe wherever we go without worry, without fear. But the best thing of all is our Great and Glorious Creator and Savior will be there. “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.” Rev 21:1-5 May we all be there is my prayer.

Why You Shouldn’t Try to Make a Name for Yourself
There are many good reasons why you shouldn’t try to make a name for yourself.
Even though that sounds completely contrary to what the world keeps telling you to do, there is a better way.

Sabbath [What Does the Bible Teach Us About It?] – Pastor Ted Wilson
In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson and his wife, Nancy, talk about the Sabbath, which constitutes the twentieth fundamental belief of the Seventh-day Adventists. The Sabbath was given in a perfect world at the beginning of time. It commemorates Creation and honors the Creator. Genesis 1 describes how God created this world and everything that is in it in six days. Then, in Genesis 2:1-3 (NKJV), we read: "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day, God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it, He rested from all His work which God had created and made." Now, did God rest after His work of Creation because He was tired? No. "The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary" (Isaiah 40:28). He rested to reflect on the work He had finished and blessed and sanctified the Sabbath as a holy, special day of communion with God and fellowship with other people. Sabbath is central to our worship of God. He is the Creator and we are His creatures. Our twentieth fundamental belief states: "The gracious Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God's unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath as the day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of delightful communion with God and one another. It is a symbol of our redemption in Christ, a sign of our sanctification, a token of our allegiance, and a foretaste of our eternal future in God's kingdom. The Sabbath is God's perpetual sign of His eternal covenant between Him and His people. Joyful observance of this holy time from evening to evening, sunset to sunset, is a celebration of God's creative and redemptive acts." The Sabbath has existed since Creation but it had become obscured and forgotten by some. As such, the fourth commandment begins with the word "remember." Exodus 20:8-11 says, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it, you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." God knew we would need the Sabbath for physical, mental, social, and spiritual restoration. As one of His most precious gifts, it keeps us focused on our connection with Him. For this reason, "the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27). It was not only after His work of Creation that God rested on the Sabbath. He also did so after His work of redemption. After His ascension to heaven, Jesus' followers continued to observe the Sabbath. The book of Acts has several examples of Paul and other believers meeting and worshipping together on the Sabbath. The Sabbath will continue to be an important day until the end of time. Just as Adam and Eve's loyalty was tested by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil placed in the Garden of Eden, every human being's loyalty to God will also be tested by the Sabbath placed in the middle of the Ten Commandments. Before Christ's second coming, the world will be divided into two classes: those who "worship the beast and his image" and those who "keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" (Revelation 14:9, 12). During this time, God's truth will be magnified before the world and everyone will be given the opportunity to show where their loyalties lie. By accepting the gift of the Sabbath, we allow Him to work in our lives, changing and bringing us closer to Him. "The power that created all things is the power that recreated the soul in His own likeness. To those who keep holy the Sabbath day, it is the sign of sanctification. True sanctification is harmony with God, oneness with Him in character. It is received through obedience to those principles that are the transcript of His character. And the Sabbath is the sign of obedience. He who from the heart obeys the fourth commandment will obey the whole law. He is sanctified through obedience" (Testimonies to the Church, volume 6, page 350). Indeed, God has given us the wonderful gift of the Sabbath and His begotten Son. He created us and gave His life to redeem us. With this, He longs to spend the Sabbath with us every week. Let us experience the joy that awaits us on God's special day. July 2022 President’s Video: “The Rebels Heard His Voice”
Someone once said that Moses spent the first 40 years in Egypt learning he was “somebody.” He then spent the next 40 years in the desert learning he was a “nobody,” and he spent the last 40 years learning what God can do with a “nobody.” Robert Dulay had excelled in his studies, graduating at the top of his theology class. He hoped and prayed he would be assigned to a good district in the capital city of Manila. But alas, he was sent to one of the islands, where instead of a car or a motorcycle, he was given a horse! For 18 years—and after seven horses—he labored in the jungle mountains, and while some might have thought his talent was wasted there, God was preparing him for one of the most amazing rides of his life! You see, Robert was working in Mindoro, and when we began airing our AWR programs on the island, it was his voice the rebels heard. He was the one the rebels approached to say they were listening to the messages and wanted to follow Jesus. They came to Robert when they wanted someone to negotiate their surrender to the authorities. Watch this video, taped during our General Conference Session last month in St. Louis, where I share Robert’s story and the amazing miracle of Mindoro. And I love that God used Robert—and Adventist World Radio—to do it! Yours in the Blessed Hope, Duane McKey
