World Pathfinder Day Celebrations Make Waves across the South Pacific
ADRA Reports Zambia Having Compounding COVID-19 Challenge; and other world news
This week on ANN. The COVID-19 pandemic has become a compounding challenge for Zambia, with a population of 18.3 million people. Country director for ADRA Zambia, Kennedy Habasimbi, says street vendors can be spotted selling vegetables and fruits without wearing masks or washing their hands before serving customers. He adds that only 30 percent of the Lusaka population has access to piped and treated water. Despite the local government’s attempt to create awareness, most people believe COVID-19 is not real. Vaccines have been made available, but due to disinformation and conspiracy theories, only 50,000 does out of 18 million were administered. After years of prayerful planning, more than 330 evangelistic meetings were held across the U.S. states of Texas and Oklahoma. This is one of the largest evangelistic thrusts ever implemented in Texas. These meetings involve people at all levels of the Adventist Church, including local administrators and Adventist World Radio team members and ambassadors. On September 18, Adventist members from all over the world celebrated World Pathfinder Day. In Pretoria, South Africa, a local Adventist church had another reason to celebrate. After 40 years, the church finally had its first Pathfinder Club. More details of the story coming from the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division Communication and Sid Media Director Noel Sibanda. In Ndjolé, Gabon, forty young people recently responded to an invitation to attend the One Year in Mission program, collaborating with Global Mission for an evangelism program. Each day after campers did their own Bible studies, these young people were sent to visit and give studies to their identified contacts. Each group included a preacher, a coordinator, and an intercessor. Don’t miss the latest news and current events. 5 Minutes or Less | Pride vs Humility | September 23, 2021
In Matthew 20, we are told of a couple of disciples who wanted Jesus to make them His right-hand men. They believed they deserved this "promotion" instead of the other 10 disciples. Jesus basically says to them, "You want to be a leader? Learn to serve! Don't you see that I came to serve and not to be served?!" What is in your heart? The devil's pride or Christ's humility? Sabbath: Preamble to Deuteronomy
Sabbath Afternoon
Read for This Week’s Study: Isaiah 14:12-14, Ezekiel 28:12-17, Genesis 3:1-7, Genesis 12:1-3, Acts 7:20-36, Exodus 19:4-8.
Memory Text: “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8).
The book of Deuteronomy, of course, did not arise in a vacuum. As with everything in life, Deuteronomy exists in a context; and, as with everything in life, that context plays an important role in understanding what the book means and what its purpose is.
A lot of history came before it — a history that explained the circumstances, not only of the book itself but of the world and environment that created its context. Just as it would be hard to understand the purpose and function of a windshield wiper outside the context of a car, it would be hard to understand Deuteronomy, especially in light of our theme (Deuteronomy and present truth), outside the context in which it arose.
Someone had read Russian Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace — about 1,500 pages in just three days. When asked what the book was about, the reader replied: “It’s about Russia.”
To cover in one week’s lesson the thousands of years of history before we come to Deuteronomy is to do somewhat the same thing. But by focusing on the highlights, we can see the context needed to best understand this book, so rich with “present truth.”
Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, October 2.
