- Personal Application: How does Jesus’ resurrection prove that He had life unborrowed and underived and was the eternal God? Share your thoughts..
- Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Why did they seal the tomb and put Roman guards around the tomb? Did they think the disciples might steal the body and claim He was alive? Did they think He might actually arise?” How would you respond to your relative?

- Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “Why did Jesus show the disciples the holes in His hands and sides? Was it to prove that He was human and not a spirit? Why would He still have the scars? Couldn’t He heal His own body from the wounds?” How would you respond to your relative?
4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:20.
- Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.

7: Christ’s Victory Over Death – Singing with Inspiration
The theme hymn for this quarter’s studies “On Death, Dying and the FUTURE HOPE” is
Hymn 214 – We Have This Hope.
Sabbath’s introduction talks of the crucifixion and death of our dear Jesus. The emotion that comes to us is uttered in
Hymn 154/155 – When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.
The Sealed Tomb (Sunday) we question in
Hymn 158 – Were You There? and
Hymn 317 – Lead Me To Calvary. The tomb is shattered, unable to hold our Savior in
Hymn 170 – Come, You Faithful,
Hymn 171 – Thine Is The Glory, Hymn 340 – Jesus Saves where we sing triumph o’er the tomb, and
Hymn 205 – Gleams of The Golden Morning.
It is with adulation and triumph we read “He Is Risen?”:
Hymn 526 – Because He Lives,
Hymn 166 – Christ The Lord Is Risen Today,
Hymn 176 – Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise and once again
Hymn 171 – Thine Is The Glory.
Just as “Many Arose With Him” (Tuesday), so we look forward to the resurrection morning because
“I Know Whom I Have Believed – Hymn 511. This is shown again on Wednesday.
Because of what Jesus did for each of us,
Good Christian Friends, Rejoice! – Hymn 173. Ahhhh, yes,
Thine Is The Glory – Hymn 171.
Today we look forward to Jesus coming again. Oh, what a day that will be
When We All Get To Heaven – Hymn 633.
To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/
Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Rise Above

Much like today, Peter and the early believers dealt with a tremendous amount of hate, suspicion, and unrest. How do we deal with those who intentionally cause division…Source: https://vimeo.com/767839476
Monday: “He is Risen”
The victory of Christ over Satan and his evil powers was secured on the cross and confirmed by the empty tomb. “When Jesus was laid in the grave, Satan triumphed. He dared to hope that the Saviour would not take up His life again. He claimed the Lord’s body, and set his guard about the tomb, seeking to hold Christ a prisoner. He was bitterly angry when his angels fled at the approach of the heavenly messenger. When he saw Christ come forth in triumph, he knew that his kingdom would have an end, and that he must finally die.” — Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 782. And though Christ’s humanity died, His divinity did not die. In His divinity, Christ possessed the power to break the bonds of death.
Read Matthew 28:1-6; John 10:17-18; and Romans 8:11. Who was directly involved in the resurrection of Jesus?
During His ministry in Samaria-Peraea, Jesus stated that He Himself had power to lay down His life and to take it again (John 10:17-18). To Martha He said, “I am the resurrection, and the life” (John 11:25). Other passages speak of His resurrection as an act of God (Acts 2:24, Romans 8:11, Galatians 1:1, Hebrews 13:20). Even a mighty angel of the Lord was involved in that glorious event (Matthew 28:1-2).
Meanwhile, Matthew 28:11-15 reveals the futile and foolish efforts of the leaders to continue fighting against Jesus. The Roman guard told the leaders “all the things that had happened” (Matthew 28:11, NKJV). Implicit in this account is the idea that the guards saw the resurrection. If not, what would their words mean? An angel came down from heaven, moved the stone, sat on it, and the guards fainted? The next thing that they know the tomb is empty? Maybe, while the Romans were unconscious, the angel took away the body of Jesus? Maybe the disciples did? Or someone else stole it? Whatever happened, the body of Jesus was, obviously, gone.
An angel from heaven coming down, the men fainting from fear, and the tomb being empty would have been disconcerting enough to the religious leaders. But that they “gave a large sum of money to the soldiers” (Matthew 28:12, NKJV) to keep these men quiet implied that whatever the soldiers told them disturbed them deeply. And what they told of, of course, was the resurrection of Jesus.
| Some scoff at the idea that the first people to see Christ resurrected were Romans. Why? In what ways is this truth symbolic of what was to come: the gospel going to the Gentiles, as well? |
