Sabbath: Longing for More

September 3, 2021 By admin

People Looking at the Promised Land

Image © Pacific Press

Sabbath Afternoon

Read for This Week’s Study: 1 Corinthians 10:1-11, Leviticus 4:32-35, John 1:29, Hebrews 4:1-11, Psalm 95:8-11.
Memory Text: “Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did” (1 Corinthians 10:6).

The Queens Museum of Art in New York, United States, houses the world’s largest architectural model of a city, depicting all of the buildings of New York. On a scale of 1:1,200 (where 2.5 centimeters or 1 inch corresponds to 33 meters or 100 feet) it covers nearly 870 square meters (9,335 square feet). It was originally completed in 1964 by 100 craftsmen who had worked for more than three years to complete the project. It has been updated to the 1990s and does not reflect the 2021 cityscape. It is an amazingly intricate and detailed copy of the original.

In the end, though, it is still just that: a copy, a model, a representation of something grander, bigger, deeper, and much more intricate than the model itself.

That’s how all models are, actually. They are not the original but function only as symbols of the originals. A model helps us grasp the essence of the original, but it can never replace it. Rather, it is there to help people better understand what the original is all about.

Scripture itself is full of miniature models of activities and institutions that all point to larger, heavenly realities. Hebrews 4 helps us discover one of these realities as it relates to the biblical question of rest.

Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, September 11.

Sunday–>

Amen!(0)

Rwandan Union President Opposes Church Employment of Former Genocide Perpetrators

September 3, 2021 By admin

3 September 2021 | “Can the hand that raised a machete to kill now raise it to bless?” asks a JusticeInfo article on the rehabilitation of clergy convicted for their role in the Rwandan genocide of Tutsis in 1994. The piece looks at a number of ministers that were involved in the genocide and that […] Source: https://atoday.org/rwandan-union-president-opposes-church-employment-of-former-genocide-perpetrators/

Who Then Is Willing?

September 3, 2021 By admin

And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord? 1 Chronicles 29:5.

It is not safe for us to linger to contemplate the advantages to be reaped through yielding to Satan’s suggestions. Sin means dishonor and disaster to every soul that indulges in it; but it is blinding and deceiving in its nature, and it will entice us with flattering presentations. If we venture on Satan’s ground, we have no assurance of protection from his power. So far as in us lies, we should close every avenue by which the tempter may find access to us.—Messages to Young People, 70.

The whole heart must be yielded to God, or the change can never be wrought in us by which we are to be restored to His likeness. By nature we are alienated from God. The Holy Spirit describes our condition in such words as these: “Dead in trespasses and sins;” “the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint;” “no soundness in it.” We are held fast in the snare of Satan; “taken captive by him at his will.” God desires to heal us, to set us free. But since this requires an entire transformation, a renewing of our whole nature, we must yield ourselves wholly to him.

The warfare against self is the greatest battle that was ever fought. The yielding of self, surrendering all to the will of God, requires a struggle; but the soul must submit to God before it can be renewed in holiness.

The government of God is not, as Satan would make it appear, founded upon a blind submission, an unreasoning control. It appeals to the intellect and the conscience.—Steps to Christ, 43.

Prayer Requests
—-Please be in prayer for Maya and the need for the medical bed. They are working to appeal the insurance decision. Jennifer
—-Please pray for my wife Joanna who is having a hard time recovering from covid. Hugo
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
How good God is! He “in whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind” watches over us through all our lives. Job 12:10 Indeed, He watches over all of His Creation and nothing happens without His notice. Not even a sparrow falls from its nest without His notice. (Matt 10:29) We may hear of terroristic threats, nation may rise against nation, yet we have the assurance that He will keep us as the apple of His eye, He will hide us under the shadow of His wings. (Luke 21:10; Zech 2:8, Ps 91:4) Nahum praises, “The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” Nahum 1:7 Nothing can happen unless the Great King of the Universe allows it.
May we trust in the Lord with all our heart for He is our help and our shield and our strong salvation! (Ps 115:11) May we allow Him to use us to bring others to Him before it is forever too late. May we place our weak and trembling hand in His Strong and Mighty Hand trusting Him in all situations is my prayer.
ADRA aids Haiti on Quake and Storm Disaster; and other world news | Adventist news
September 3, 2021 By admin
https://adventist.news/ This week on ANN. In Haiti, the death toll continued to climb after days of ongoing search and rescue efforts for survivors of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the nation’s southern regions. Preliminary reports indicate that there are now more than 2,200 deaths and 12,000 injuries, with significant infrastructure loss. Over 53,000 houses were destroyed, and 46,000 buildings were damaged, including hospitals, schools, and churches. There are also reports of road blockages. As the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) assesses the needs of affected populations, it will scale up its plans to ensure people in Haiti get immediate access to essential items and receive ongoing aid to advance towards a recovery stage. 'Codex Sinaiticus: A Journey in Biblical Discovery' will document a rare visit inside St. Catherine's Monastery and a meeting with Father Justin, chief librarian for a collection of over 2,300 ancient manuscripts. A combined production of Hope Channel Norway and the Trans-European Division, Tor Tjeransen and Victor Hulbert take viewers on an inspiring journey. The documentary and accompanying short videos, 'Moments from Sinai,' are more than just a travelogue or historical journey. Hulbert and Tjeransen share the story of Moses and God's faithfulness with a young Australian couple who had climbed the mountain but knew nothing about the Bible. 'Moments from Sinai' will be released later in the year with a second series filmed in Jordan. The president of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church, Ted N.C. Wilson and president of the Adventist Church in North America, G. Alexander Bryant, led out in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Northeastern Towers Annex. The new complex is a 158-unit affordable housing complex located in Queens, New York, sponsored by the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by the project's partners–the Northeastern Conference, the Fifth Avenue Committee, and Mega Development. The Life Bridge Seventh-day Adventist Church provided the Tacoma, Washington, community with more than $90,000 worth of free dental care for two days. The clinic director and local dentist, Jed de la Paz, and the LifeBridge team recruited more than 75 volunteers who donated their time and expertise. The clinic was hosted at De la Paz's practice, Bright Smile Dental. In Fiji, a group of "10,000 Toes" ambassadors and Dorcas ladies from Nadi English Church brought smiles to the faces of 17 families financially impacted by the second wave of the COVID 19 pandemic. Rural Nadi, surrounded by cane fields and accessible only by dirt roads, are isolated family homes. Some of the families live day-to-day, not knowing where their next meal will come from. The 10,000 Toes ambassadors, in partnership with the Dorcas ladies, hope to grow this 'Loaf Ministry' through kind donations. In Timor-Leste or East Timor, the main challenges for women continue to be deep poverty, domestic violence, and the lack of recognition of women's contribution to political, economic, and social spheres. Economic empowerment is particularly crucial as conflict during the Indonesian occupation and violence left nearly half of all Timorese women widowed and sole providers for their families. ADRA and Rede Feto are teaming up, with a grant from the European Union and a contribution from the Austrian Development Cooperation, to implement a four-year project called "Empower Women" in various regions throughout the country. The initiative will help 45 civil society organizations create gender awareness and inclusion programs and support female heads of households in production, processing, trading, saving, and loan activities.
