Obedience

March 25, 2022 By admin

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. 1 Peter 1:14, 15.

What does God require? Perfection, nothing less than perfection. But if we would be perfect, we must put no confidence in self. Daily we must know and understand that self is not to be trusted. We need to grasp God’s promises with firm faith. We need to ask for the Holy Spirit with a full realization of our own helplessness. Then when the Holy Spirit works we shall not give self the glory. The Holy Spirit will graciously take the heart into His keeping, bringing to it all the bright beams of the Sun of righteousness. We shall be kept by the power of God through faith.

When we are daily under the control of God’s Spirit, we shall be commandment-keeping people. We may show to the world that obedience to God’s commands brings its own reward, even in this life, and in the future life eternal blessedness. Notwithstanding our profession of faith, the Lord, by whom our actions are weighed, sees but an imperfect representation of Christ. He has declared that such a condition of things cannot glorify Him.

It means much to commit the keeping of the soul to God. It means that we are to live and walk by faith, not trusting in or glorifying self, but looking to Jesus our Advocate as the author and finisher of our faith. The Holy Spirit will do its work upon the heart that is contrite, but never can it work upon a self-important, self-righteous soul. In his own wisdom such a one would mend himself. He interposes between his soul and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will work if self will not interpose.

Where is our dependence? Where is our help? God’s Word tells us: “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is ready to cooperate with all who will receive Him and be taught by Him. All who lay hold on the truth and are sanctified through the truth are so united with Christ that they can represent Him in word and action.—Manuscript Releases 12:52, 53.

Dear Friends,

One of the television programs I used to enjoy watching is on House and Garden TV. Rich people who are wanting to buy vacation homes (or a home in a new location) tour three luxurious places and then decide which one to buy. I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful places and tried to guess which one they would pick. It was fun to view, but it always amazed me how some people have so much money, that they are willing to pay a million dollars for a home they only visit a few weeks out of the year.

As I think about the program, I cannot help but think of the rich man in Jesus’ parable, “The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:16-21

The rich man felt no need of God. He did not care for the needs of others. He was totally self-centered. He had more than he could ever use in a lifetime. Yet, instead of using his means to help those in need, he hoarded it. When the rich man’s time came to die, all of his riches, all of his lands, his luxurious house, all of his expensive possessions could not save him. All that he had worked for all of his life was given to others. He went down to the grave to wait for the resurrection of damnation that Jesus spoke about, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” John 5:28,29

Jesus asks a question that it would do well to meditate upon, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matt 16:26 The rich man’s riches could not save him from death. He could not give them in exchange for his soul. His only hope of salvation, our only hope of salvation is in our Dear Saviour’s sacrifice upon the cross of Calvary. Our Great Creator assures us, “Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” “I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.” Isa 43:1;44:22 “I will ransom (thee) from the power of the grave; I will redeem (thee) from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction.” Hosea 13:14

Paul tells us, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:11-14 Peter adds, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” 1 Peter 1:18-23

May our focus be in Heaven and not upon the things of this sinful old planet. For the things of this world will soon pass away and only our treasure in Heaven will endure.

‘DO GOOD’ – ADRA-UK launches its 2022 Appeal

March 25, 2022 By admin

On 24 February 2022, as all legal Covid restrictions were lifted in England, the Ukraine crisis began. Just as we believed that life here in the UK was returning to ‘normal’, the people of Ukraine entered an era of mass displacement, loss of homes and livelihoods because of military action.
Your generosity of the past month has been amazing. Over the past four weeks, ADRA-UK has raised over £100,000. These monies have been sent to the ADRA network to support the Emergency Response Teams on the…Source: https://adventist.uk/news/article/go/2022-03-25/1097/

Exodus 21 | Believe His Prophets | Daily Bible Reading Guide 🕊

The archaeological discovery in 1902 of a stone documenting over 300 laws governing Babylonia during the reign of Hammurabi shows some similarities with this chapter. Ex 21:16 as well as the Hammurabi code indicate that the slave trade was considered a grave offense punishable by death. In Ex 21:23 a man must pay for murder with his own life. However, the Babylonian law indicates that a man may substitute his daughter in his stead. But this injustice was not permitted in the Mosaic law. In contrast to Ex 21:26, the Babylonian law speaks as if injuries were inflicted on the master of the servant rather than the servant himself. But the Hebrew law uniquely does not consider a servant the unconditional property of his master. In general the laws in Exodus focus more on the rights of individual human beings and the sanctity of life than do the Babylonian laws. While many laws in the Hammurabi code are different, there may be some indication that both laws go back to a common source. God desired fairness and justice to be exercised among His people, anciently and today. How are we treating those around us? Michael Hasel

From Bitterness to Forgiveness

March 24, 2022 By admin

Jaslene hated the Philippine military. They had killed her husband and carted off his body, never to be seen again. On that day, she lost her husband, and her two young sons lost their father. This hardened Jaslene’s heart, and she vowed to raise her children to be the best fighters possible to avenge their father’s death. By 13, her older son had joined the NPA guerrillas, and his younger brother soon followed. It seemed like their future course was set. But God was about to intervene in their lives in a spectacular way. There was one possession Jaslene treasured above all others: her beautiful radio. It was her constant companion, especially after her sons left home to join the guerrillas. One day, as she turned the dial, she came upon an unfamiliar station. It was Adventist World Radio. What happened next changed the course of their lives and turned her hatred and bitterness into forgiveness. Watch this video for the rest of the story. It’s a never-before-released video from footage taken at the beginning of the guerrilla rebels’ saga—that journey of redemption so many of them traveled as God led them from broadcast to baptism to Fully Restored children of God. And I love that He used Adventist World Radio to do it! Yours in the Blessed Hope, Duane McKey

Salvation [How Can We Have It?] – Pastor Ted Wilson

March 24, 2022 By admin

Have you ever wondered how evil people become good? For instance, those enslaved by drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and other vices become free. Do they try hard to simply become good? The truth is, trying to be "good" apart from Christ can be discouraging because we can never be good enough to be saved from sin. In this episode, Pastor Ted Wilson discusses the tenth fundamental belief of the Seventh-day Adventists—the experience of salvation. The experience of salvation that reaches deep into the souls comes from God alone. "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God…Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God" (John 3:3, 5). Only through Jesus Christ can we experience salvation. "There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). Our tenth fundamental belief states: "In infinite love and mercy God made Christ, Who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Him we might be made the righteousness of God. Led by the Holy Spirit, we sense our need, acknowledge our sinfulness, repent of our transgressions, and exercise faith in Jesus as Saviour and Lord, Substitute and Example. This saving faith comes through the divine power of the Word and is the gift of God's grace. Through Christ, we are justified, adopted as God's sons and daughters, and delivered from the lordship of sin. Through the Spirit, we are born again and sanctified; the Spirit renews our minds, writes God's law of love in our hearts, and we are given the power to live a holy life. Abiding in Him, we become partakers of the divine nature and have the assurance of salvation now and in the judgment." Jesus freely offers us the gift of salvation from sin. All we have to do is accept it. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation" (Romans 10, 9-10). Once we accept this gift, He forgives our past sins and looks at us as if we've never sinned. He then helps us overcome sin. As said in Jude 24 and 25, "Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." After accepting Jesus, He calls us to "walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4). He wants us to have a better, happier way to live. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you" (Ezekiel 36:26). Jesus meets us where we are and delights in saving us from our lost condition. There is no sinfulness His grace and forgiveness cannot redeem. In response to His great love, we follow God's law and teachings. "If ye love Me, keep My commandments" (John 14:15). But if we make mistakes, God is still there to rescue us. Before He was crucified, He warned His disciples, "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Mark 14:38). Though we've chosen Jesus, we will still be tempted to sin. But He promises in Hebrews 13:5, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Finally, Steps to Christ p. 70 explains what it truly means to experience salvation in Christ: "A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust. Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ. Your weakness is united to His strength, your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might. So you are not to look to yourself, not to let the mind dwell upon self, but look to Christ. Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection, of His character. Christ in His self-denial, Christ in His humiliation, Christ in His purity and holiness, Christ in His matchless love—this is the subject for the soul's contemplation. It is by loving Him, copying Him, depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be transformed into His likeness." As an appeal, Pastor Ted invites you to come to God now and experience this gift of salvation today! Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfNxAPiqtcg
