Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Genesis 35 shows three pictures of death as related to Deborah, Rachel and Isaac. Rebekah's nurse, Deborah, had faithfully been with her as they wandered from Mesopotamia to Canaan. Jacob and Rachel mourned her death as a loss of a family friend who had contributed so much to them. As a remembrance, her tomb under an oak at Bethel was called Allonbachuth, “the oak of weeping” (Genesis 35:8). A short time later, Rachel gave birth to her second son. But her gift to her beloved Jacob cost her life. Her dying name for the boy, Benoni,“son of my sorrow,”gave way to Jacob’s choice, Benjamin, “son of my strength.” The death of Rachel was to him a deep and heavy grief, one remembered as he lay on his own deathbed.
Isaac’s long life in Hebron was that of an outsider, just as Abraham’s life had been. But his 180 years was marked by obedience as much as by suffering and toil. He lived, astoundingly, to 180 years (Genesis 35:28). I think about these life endings found in the Scripture stories. Deborah’s lifetime of faithful service, Rachel’s true love to her family, and Isaac’s perseverance as a believer among heathen people, all speak to me here in Malaysia." ❤️ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/35 Our accounts in other social networks:

Beyond the blues
As a 10-year-old surrounded by books at her mum’s workplace, Ashley Steele came to love reading and creative writing. But when a published story didn’t yield a worthy ending, she would re-write it “with all the grace and humility of a young girl.” Reworking a plot would become familiar but it would take other characters to complete the story. Virtually, the Real Thing: First Online Adventist Church Established
NEC’s first online church, Living Manna, will still have church elections, give tithe and offerings. Living Manna will also operate seven days a week through varied online programming addressing daily living, finances, mental health, and more. “I don’t think [Living Manna] will be poaching members from our brick-and-mortar churches,” said Nicardo Delahaye, NEC associate secretary.
