Adventist Church President Wilson Prayed for Philippine President Duterte; and other world news
This week on ANN. Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte stood reverently as Seventh-day Adventist Church leader Ted N.C. Wilson prayed during a meeting that had been expected to be brief but lasted 36 minutes as Duterte spoke about his faith and Wilson gave an informal Bible study on servant leadership. Wilson, who led an Adventist delegation to the Malacañan Palace, expressed appreciation to Duterte for supporting religious liberty, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and demonstrating the reconciling ministry of Jesus in granting amnesty to former rebels who have laid down their arms after hearing the gospel through Adventist World Radio. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Tanzania has been working to lend support during the pandemic but shifted its efforts to focus on breaking down barriers to COVID-19 awareness and prevention. Part of the dilemma involved the local government’s position earlier this year that vaccines were not necessary, and that there were no plans to receive COVID-19 vaccines being distributed in other countries. With the election of Tanzania’s new president, Samia Suluhu Hassan, the administration reversed its stance on vaccines and is working to get vaccines distributed throughout the country. Stirling Adventist Church member Tim Welch has been awarded South Australia Taxi Driver of the Year. The award is part of the 2021 SA Tourism Awards, which recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of local businesses and exceptional customer service. Welch, who has worked as a taxi driver for the past 22 years, stood out from the 4,000 taxi drivers in the state due to his exceptional service. He is also being recognized for bringing wheelchair-accessible taxis to Adelaide Hills. He says eight people have visited his church through friendly conversations in his cab. Originally from England, Welch had other careers, but he enjoys being a taxi driver and shares his love for Jesus when he has the opportunity. Students from Seminole County Public Schools in the U.S. state of Florida are involved in a one-year internship at AdventHealth in the central Florida area. These interns package blood culture and COVID kits, helping control contamination at emergency departments across the region. Check out how these students are gaining work skills at AdventHealth: (link) On November 1st, the Seventh-day Adventist World Church launched a new app called Adventist Teams to grow the church’s presence in the digital world. The app will allow members worldwide to source and distribute quality, biblical content for friends and family in the digital space. Adventist Teams is a result of the worldwide Adventist Church’s focus on Total Member Involvement. Be in the know of the latest news and current events within the Adventist community. Sabbath: Turn Their Hearts
Sabbath Afternoon
Read for This Week’s Study: Deuteronomy 5:22-29; Deuteronomy 4:25-31; Deuteronomy 30:1-10; Matthew 3:1-8; Mark 1:15; Acts 2.37-38.
Memory Text: “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29).
A simple fact of life follows us all: we are sinful. Occasionally we hear some “expert” bemoan the Christian idea of basic human corruption, but all one has to do is look at the news for a day or so or take a quick survey of human history, and the truthfulness of this Christian doctrine becomes apparent.
Or, even easier, all one has to do is look in the mirror; not that far, actually. Whoever has the courage to take a long look deep inside one’s own heart (which can be a scary place to go) knows the truthfulness of Romans 3:9-23, which ends with the words: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Of course, the good news is found in the next verse, about being “justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24). Crucial to this great news is repentance: acknowledging our sin, being sorry for it, asking God’s forgiveness for it and, ultimately, turning away from it. Because we are sinful, repentance should be a central part of our Christian existence. And, this week, we will see the idea of repentance as expressed in Deuteronomy.
Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, November 27.

Vindication by the Cross
by Stephen Ferguson | 14 November 2021 | “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son.” (Romans 5:10) Renowned atheist Richard Dawkins once said, in his award-winning book The God Delusion: “The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: […] Source: https://atoday.org/vindication-by-the-cross/
