Friday: Further Thought ~ Resurrections Before the Cross

October 27, 2022 By admin

Further Thought: Read Ellen G. White, “The Death of Moses,” Pages 469-480, in Patriarchs and Prophets; “The Voice of Stern Rebuke,” Pages 129-142; “A Prophet of Peace,” Pages 237-243, in Prophets and Kings; “The Centurion,” Pages 318, 319; “The Touch of Faith,” Pages 342, 343; “Lazarus, Come Forth,” Pages 524-536, in The Desire of Ages.

“In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, underived. ‘He that hath the Son hath life.’ 1 John 5:12. The divinity of Christ is the believer‘s assurance of eternal life. ‘He that believeth in Me,’ said Jesus, ‘though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?’ Christ here [in John 11:25-26, ] looks forward to the time of His second coming. Then the righteous dead shall be raised incorruptible, and the living righteous shall be translated to heaven without seeing death. The miracle which Christ was about to perform, in raising Lazarus from the dead, would represent the resurrection of all the righteous dead. By His word and His works He declared Himself the Author of the resurrection. He who Himself was soon to die upon the cross stood with the keys of death, a conqueror of the grave, and asserted His right and power to give eternal life.” — Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 530.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Many people died during the prophetic ministries of Elijah and Elisha, as well as during Christ’s own earthly ministry. Only just a few were resurrected. (See Luke 4:24-27.) Think, too, about the experience of all of the dead, in that whether resurrected in the past or at the Second Coming, what difference does it make, at least in regard to what it was like to be dead?
  2. Many writers over the centuries have written about the futility of a life that ends always in death. Along with other living creatures — chickens, beavers, oysters, etc. — we all die. However, for humans, in a sense our predicament is worse than for the animals, because we know that we are going to die. (See Eccles. 9:5.) Chickens, beavers, and oysters don’t. Why, then, is the promise of the resurrection so crucial to us?
  3. If you think that the soul is immortal and that the dead, especially the righteous dead, live on in heaven after they die, what need is there for the resurrection at the end of time?
  4. If someone called and asked, “Is Sally there” you might answer, “Yes, but she’s sleeping.” If, however, someone called and asked, “Is Sally there” you are not going to answer, “Yes, but she’s dead.” Why not? What does this teach us about the nature of death?

How to Be Ready When Jesus Returns

October 27, 2022 By admin

In Matthew 24, Jesus lets His followers know that there will be signs indicating that His Second Coming is very soon.
He says wars, famines, earthquakes, the spreading of deceptions and of infectious diseases will prevail on a worldwide scale.
He then finishes with a warning parable.
This parable holds the key for How to Be Ready When Jesus Returns. ===

4.Fourth Blessing in the Beatitudes (What Does Jesus Teach Us?) – Pastor Ted Wilson

October 27, 2022 By admin

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEz3XTESMMA?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en-GB&autohide=2&wmode=transparent&w=1280&h=720]

This week, Pastor Ted Wilson talks about the fourth blessing Jesus mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount.

Have you been terribly hungry or thirsty? Your throat went really dry and your stomach was aching so badly. And over time, your craving for food and water became stronger. Then, what a relief it was when you finally got some food and water to satisfy your hunger and thirst!

Jesus tells us in the fourth beatitude, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). Here, instead of talking about physical food and drink, He is referring to spiritual nourishment—longing after righteousness.

What is righteousness?

“Righteousness is holiness, likeness to God, and ‘God is love,’” (Ellen White, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, page 18). It is conformity to the law of God, for “all Thy commandments are righteousness” (Psalm 119:172), and “love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10).

Therefore, righteousness is love, and love is the light and life of God. This love is embodied in Him. So, we receive righteousness by accepting Him. This righteousness is not something we can earn because it is a gift from God.

“Not by painful struggles or wearisome toil, not by gift or sacrifice, is righteousness obtained; but it is freely given to every soul who hungers and thirsts to receive it” (Ellen White, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, page 18).

In every human being, there is a “God-shaped hole”—a place in the heart that only God can fill. Ecclesiastes 3:11 seems to verify this by saying God has “put eternity” into our hearts.

Though many people try to fill that space with philosophy, materialism, secularism, and the like, only God can truly satisfy the hunger and thirst of the soul. Jesus says, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).

Just as we need food and water to sustain physical life, we also need Christ to sustain spiritual life to follow where He leads us.

“A divine element combines with the human when the soul reaches out after God…If you have a sense of need in your soul, if you hunger and thirst after righteousness, this is an evidence that Christ has wrought upon your heart, in order that He may be sought unto to do for you, through the endowment of the Holy Spirit, those things which it is impossible for you to do for yourself” (Ellen White, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, page 19).

Then, on page 20, we are given this promise: “The words of God are the wellsprings of life. As you seek unto those living springs, you will, through the Holy Spirit, be brought into communion with Christ. Familiar truths will present themselves to your mind in a new aspect, texts of Scripture will burst upon you with a new meaning as a flash of light, you will see the relation of other truths to the work of redemption, and you will know that Christ is leading you; a divine Teacher is at your side.”

And again, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). This is a precious promise we can claim today.

What Can God Do Through One Committed Disciple of Jesus Christ? #sermon #shorts

October 27, 2022 By admin

What can God do through one committed disciple of Jesus Christ? This #short clip from the Global Campmeeting sermon, “Does God Work By Many or By Few?” by Robert Folkenberg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdHSDiHR3xk&list=PL-k2Gb-DBYo9tb9fHW_AxGxJ1R8MpNnpa&index=7 shows that God does not require many people to accomplish His mission; nor does He need someone who “knows it all.” God simply needs one willing person to join Him in bringing the hope and salvation He offers to the world. Are you willing to take on the challenge of proclaiming the gospel? Watch the video to learn more about the amazing things God can do through one committed disciple of Jesus Christ in proclaiming the gospel throughout the world. ————————————————————————————
