Adventist Health and World Vision Donate Bicycles to Students in North Mexico; and other world news
This week on ANN Adventist Health and World Vision International recently donated dozens of bicycles to help middle school and high school students in North Mexico. The project called “Bicycles That Change Lives” aims to reduce school dropout rates and encourage physical activity. Adventist Health facilitated the delivery of more than 110 bicycles in coordinated efforts with leaders of Montemorelos University, an Adventist university in Mexico and municipal leaders of General Terán, Allende and Montemorelos districts in the Nuevo Leon State in December 2021. An additional 250 bicycles will be delivered this month with five more deliveries planned throughout the year. An Australian-produced children’s show that has brought the story of Jesus into the homes of thousands of families around the world is celebrating its 100th episode. The King’s Kids will celebrate the milestone with a special premiere of the 100th episode next Friday evening February 18. Notching 100 episodes is a significant achievement for The King’s Kids, which is a collaboration between Adventist Media, Abide Family Ministries, and the South Pacific Division. The program was launched in 2020 to assist and minister to families during the first extended COVID-19 lockdown. Since then, it has become an international hit, broadcast in more than 70 countries worldwide, filling a gap in quality Christian TV content for children. Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital have been named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 – 2022 “Best Hospitals for Maternity” list. The report highlighted their national ranking with low rates of newborn complications, early deliveries, and C-section rates. In the US state of Florida, elementary school teacher Terry Greer had a COVID battle that caught national attention. Coach Greer, as his students call him, came back to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at AdventHealth for their care for him during his time in the hospital. A Filipino filmmaker Jasper Ivan Iturriaga has a passion for reaching the unreached. He is also a missionary, pastor, landscape photographer, and content creator. He goes around the world capturing great moments and imparting inspiration through the content he shares. Iturriaga went to Brooke’s Point, Palawan, to visit some missionary friends who work for the Philippine Adventist Medical Aviation Services. It extends medical help to people living in remote communities in the Philippines. After a few days of immersing himself in the culture, Iturriaga realized the great need for education in the community that is to build a jungle school funded entirely by society hit him. Adventist Medical Aviation Servies airlifted the construction materials, fathers worked together at the school site, and everyone played a role in building the school. In three months, the school was established. The jungle school in Palawan, Philippines is now running. The church continues to extend help and support in places that needed immediate response the most. God the Holy Spirit [Who is He and What Does He Do?] – Pastor Ted Wilson
We have learned about God the Son and God the Father in the previous episodes. In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson talks about the third Person of the Trinity. He is invisible but existent—God the Holy Spirit. Our fifth fundamental belief says: "God the eternal Spirit was active with the Father and the Son in Creation, incarnation, and redemption. He is as much a person as are the Father and the Son. He inspired the writers of Scripture. He filled Christ's life with power. He draws and convicts human beings; and those who respond He renews and transforms into the image of God. Sent by the Father and the Son to be always with His children, He extends spiritual gifts to the church, empowers it to bear witness to Christ, and in harmony with the Scriptures leads it into all truth." The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins, leads us to repentance, and transforms our lives to be like Jesus. He also helps us understand the truth God has revealed in the Bible. “His work is to define and maintain the truth. He first dwells in the heart as the Spirit of truth, and thus He becomes the Comforter. There is comfort and peace in the truth, but no real peace or comfort can be found in falsehood…Through the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit speaks to the mind and impresses truth upon the heart. Thus He exposes error and expels it from the soul” (Ye Shall Receive Power, p. 13). Moreover, the Holy Spirit “strives” as Genesis 6:3 says: "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever…" He also “teaches” as in Luke 12:12: "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." He convicts as John 16:8 notes: “And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” Also, He inspires as 2 Peter 1:21 indicates: "For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." Lastly, He sanctifies as 1 Peter 1:2 states: "…the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ." We see the Holy Spirit's activity and involvement in some remarkable events in the Bible. For instance, He was active at Creation, "hovering over the face of the waters" (Gen. 1:1,2). Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." He was referring to the necessity of baptism by water and the Holy Spirit. During Jesus' incarnation, an angel told Mary, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One Who is to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35). Jesus acknowledged the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He said in Isaiah 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." Also, before His crucifixion, Jesus assured His disciples: "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you" (John 14:25, 26). In Acts 10:38, Peter preached to the household of Cornelius, saying, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power…" To conclude, we are to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit by surrendering ourselves to Him and allowing Him to transform our lives. He was sent to teach, guide, comfort, encourage, and transform us. However, the choice is ours to accept Him. But Jesus warned us about the consequences of resisting the Holy Spirit. With this, let us heed the call given in Psalm 95 and repeated in Hebrews 4:7: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." “God is Still Present in Public Universities” Said PCM Leader; and other world news
This week on ANN. Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventist students enrolled at public university campuses throughout North Colombia met during a recent three-day Public Campus Ministries (PCM) Congress in Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. Students had not been able to meet since the last PCM Congress in 2018, due to the pandemic. More than 400 students and young professionals were instructed, trained, motivated, and equipped through seminars, presentations, worship and prayer sessions. The purpose of the Congress was to provide helpful tools through spiritual, psychological, and academic activities to help students strengthen their faith and face different challenges. Adventist students, who are members of the 18 PCM chapters at public universities across North Colombia, had the opportunity to present reports and share testimonies of what God has done in their lives, as well as making strides in the religious freedom of expression. A member of the Ann Arbor Seventh-day Adventist Church named Karen met an Adventist family of Rwandan refugees. She noticed they were struggling and invited them to come to church with her. The Ann Arbor church warmly welcomed the family and provided them with winter clothing, shoes, and blankets. Through the generous sponsorship of a church member, the youngest son enrolled in the Ann Arbor Adventist Elementary School. Karen began to visit the Rwandan family more frequently at their hotel and met other refugees, too. A few days before Thanksgiving, Daniel Rodriguez, Ann Arbor pastor, suggested that the church provide a meal for the refugee families staying at the hotel. Providentially, God sent translators for each group to understand what the pastor said in his short talk and prayer in the school gym. The new Rwandan family has started a Bible study twice weekly. Seven young people have become enthusiastic and interested in the life of Christ Jesus. Several weeks after Typhoon Rai heavily devastated major cities in the central and southern parts of the Philippines, the Adventist Church, through different organizations within the country, continues to extend assistance to families heavily affected by the calamity. On January 31, 2022, thousands of families received food packs at the Adventist Academy Cebu gymnasium, providing enough to sustain evacuees for several days. The initiative was made possible through the Central Visayan Conference leadership, in coordination with the district pastors and the Adventist Community Services in the Philippines. Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is partnering with a Quechua people group living in the highlands of Peru to build warm and healthy homes. Tiny one-room dwellings made of mud bricks, dirt floors and no insulation from the cold winter winds are being replaced with insulated houses. These homes also have wood floors and solar heating. New cooking stoves with chimneys to send the smoke outside provide healthier environments, especially for the elderly and young children. The Adventist Church will continue to serve people in need until Jesus comes. Be updated with the latest happenings within the Adventist community. Go to https://adventist.news/ for more.
