We bring you the latest news updates from the Adventist community: In Slovakia, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency has been very busy in helping address the pandemic crisis in the country. ADRA built additional shelters and waiting areas for external COVID-19 testing centers, provided germicidal lamps to testing sites, supported homes for the elderly and people with special needs, and distributed food, hygiene and personal protection products, vitamins, and cash vouchers to vulnerable communities. In the Lake Region Conference in the United States, elementary students led out a 10-day virtual evangelism series. Despite physical limitations due to the pandemic, 60 students from Shiloh, Peterson-Warren, Capitol City, and South Suburban academies excitedly participated in the “Countdown to Eternity” livestream series last November 15-24. According to Peterson-Warren Academy Principal Lynette Jefferson, the program was a two-fold blessing: sharing the gospel with others while helping the students grow spiritually. In New Zealand, a new television series about how the gospel of Jesus Christ reached the Maori people will be screened this coming holiday season. About 50 Seventh-day Adventist volunteers have helped create Te Harinui (tidings of great joy), a TV special about the story of a friendship between a Northland chief named Ruatara and Reverend Samuel Marsden from Port Jackson, Australia. Their bond paved the way for the alignment of virtually all Maori people with Christianity. As the world faces the end of 2020 and we think about all that has happened, many would agree that this year has been one of the most difficult times in recent history. In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson shares that even in times of difficulty, nothing can stop the gospel. This year seems to fit the description found in Matthew 24:7—“nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes.” So many difficult and discouraging things have happened this year that if we dwelt very long upon them, we could end up very disheartened and discouraged. But, praise God, we have a wonderful hope that lifts us up and encourages us to move forward! Continuing on in Matthew 24, verses 12, 13, and 14, we read: “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” This passage is telling us that, in spite of everything that is going on around us, nothing can stop the gospel from being preached to all the world as a witness to all nations! What a wonderful promise this is, and what an incredible message we have to share as a witness to the world—that in spite of everything happening around us, although the world seems to be spinning out of control—there is a God in heaven who loves us, who died for us, who redeemed us, who has a plan for us, who is interceding for us in the heavenly sanctuary, and who will soon come to take us home to live with Him forever! What a wonderful, incredible message we have to share with the world right now as so many people are searching for hope for today and assurance for tomorrow. We have the privilege of being anchors of stability and pillars of hope through these storms! God’s people around the world have used creativity and fortitude to press on, helping people in need, spreading hope and encouragement through the internet and more, using every means possible to proclaim the Gospel message and the truth that Jesus is coming soon! Thank you for all that you have done and are doing through God’s power. Does it ever seem like the world is spiraling out of control? Do you ever get the feeling that the end of the world is almost here? The good news is that in the midst of all the chaos, you can be confident that God has a personal rescue plan for you. This plan is none other than the second coming of Jesus Christ! Why should we learn about what Jesus’ second coming will look like? About 2,000 years ago, the people of Jerusalem were left stunned and unprepared because Jesus’ first coming didn’t match their expectations. Rather than coming as a glorious conqueror, Jesus came meekly as a little baby, born to a poor family. Unlike Jesus’ first coming, you won’t have to wait to hear the news of His second coming—it will be impossible to miss! Still, even though Jesus’ Second Coming will be visible to every eye and audible to every ear, it makes all the difference to know how He will return. The Bible declares that at Jesus’ second coming, “. . . every eye will see Him . . .” (Revelation 1:7). His second coming will not be a mysterious event in a desert or a secret rapture. Although some say that Jesus’ second coming will be a secret, the Bible actually warned us in advance against the thought. In Luke 17:23, Jesus tells us that someday people will falsely say “. . .‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ . . .”, but we should not follow them. This is because any person who claims to be fulfilling Jesus’ second coming, but meets privately with a group or an individual, is only an impersonation. As lightning is visible from all angles in the sky, so will His coming be visible from all directions (Luke 17:24). And don’t expect to see Jesus walking down the streets of New York or Tokyo, either. When Jesus returns, the righteous will “. . . meet Him in the air.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)! Finally, Jesus reminds us that we must always be prepared, because no one knows the exact time of His coming (Matthew 24:36). Jesus’ second coming will be the climax of earth’s history. He will rescue His followers from death, pain, and disease. Those who have died following Jesus will come forth from the grave alive with new, indestructible bodies. The bodies of His faithful followers will be instantly transformed, as quickly as the “. . . twinkling of an eye . . .” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). Today is the day to choose to follow Him, because “. . . now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2). Your eternal destiny is hanging on the choices you make. In John 14:2, 3 Jesus promised, “. . . I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” Jesus has prepared a beautiful home for us in heaven, so beautiful that no one can fully grasp just how glorious it will be (1 Corinthians 2:9).
