Lesson 7 Mission to my Neighbor – 7.3 To Inherit Eternal Life

November 13, 2023 By admin

The episode of the legal expert and Jesus’s reaction emphasizes the importance of acting according to faith. The legal expert acknowledged the right answer to his own question by citing the basic commandments of loving God and one’s neighbor. Yet, Jesus encouraged not just knowing what to do, but actively acting upon it to experience true life.
Similarly, James 2:17–22 underscores that faith without deeds is meaningless. Love and faith must be manifested in actions and care for others to unfold their true meaning. Christianity is not merely a collection of beliefs but an active lifestyle shown in practical love and compassion.
The verses from James stress that faith without works is dead. It is not sufficient to merely claim to love God and one’s neighbor without translating it into concrete actions. True love for God is demonstrated in dedication, prayer, practical love for others, and a willingness to aid the needy.
The questions from Philippians 2:4 and James 2:15–16 remind us that it is not enough to live for oneself. Considering the needs of others and actively caring for them are integral parts of the Christian life.
It is a continual challenge to consistently ask how, through God’s grace and with an open heart, one can care for others. Taking care of others and serving them requires an awareness of their needs and a commitment that goes beyond mere words. By advocating for the well-being of others and actively addressing their needs, we demonstrate God’s love through concrete actions. It is a journey of humility and continual learning of how to make faith come alive through acts of love and mercy.

Does Job Fear God for Naught? | The Great Battle’s War and Loyalty in Trials (Skin for Skin: The Battle Continues)

November 12, 2023 By admin

The Book of Job reveals a profound spiritual reality that extends beyond the visible occurrences. In Job 2:1-3, we witness a repeat of Satan’s attack on Job, this time extending to Job’s physical health. Satan demands to test and challenge Job through physical suffering.
The significance of the presence of the “sons of God”—witnesses to the dialogue between God and Satan—sheds light on the cosmic conflict representing the Great Battle between Good and Evil. The heavenly assemblies bear witness to the conflict that concerns not only Job but has a much larger spiritual significance.
The phrase “skin for skin” might indicate that Satan aims to physically harm Job to see if his loyalty to God remains unshaken. This illustrates the attack on Job’s integrity and faith—Satan doubts the authenticity of Job’s loyalty to God.
However, this isn’t just a personal conflict between Job and Satan. It’s part of the broader spiritual battle that spans the entire universe. These heavenly assemblies bear witness to the depth and significance of the Great Battle between Good and Evil, permeating the reality of the entire universe.
Just as Job remained steadfast and loyal to God amid his trials, this reveals an important principle of faith: Our trust in God should not be dependent on external circumstances. Even amidst pain and suffering, we can remain steadfast in our faith by relying on God’s goodness and faithfulness.
The Great Battle isn’t just a conflict between Job and Satan; it’s a spiritual conflict involving celestial beings and the universe. It reminds us that our faith, loyalty, and trust in God aren’t just personal but carry a significance that encompasses the universe.
Prayer: Lord, amid life’s trials and conflicts, teach us to remain faithful to You. Help us base our faith on Your faithfulness and not be shaken by external circumstances. Remind us that our faith is part of a larger cosmic conflict where Your reign and goodness will prevail. Amen.
May God’s grace grant us strength and steadfastness in our tests of faith as we persist in this Great Battle. Amen.

Lesson 7 Mission to my Neighbor – 7.2 Jesus’s Method and Response

November 12, 2023 By admin

The way Jesus responded to questions and challenges offers valuable insights into dealing with different views and challenging questions, especially concerning our faith.
The Bible verses mentioned, such as Matthew 26:56, Acts 17:11, 1 Corinthians 15:3, and 2 Timothy 3:16, emphasize the importance of Scripture as a source of truth and divine knowledge. Jesus always redirected attention to the Holy Scriptures in dealing with questions, indicating that the answers are already contained there. This practice underscores the importance of personally studying the Holy Scriptures to discover the truth and not solely relying on the interpretations of others.
The Bible is considered the inspired word of God, teaching us everything we need to know to lead our lives, serve others, and ultimately inherit eternal life. It is not merely a book but a divine source of wisdom and truth guiding us in our faith journey.
Jesus’s emphasis on God’s word reminds us of the importance of rejecting philosophical or theological arguments that question the authority of the Bible. The Bible is the cornerstone of our faith and our guide for a fulfilled life. It is a source of light leading us through the darkness of this world.
Emphasizing the Scriptures as infallible and inspired divine truth underscores the necessity of acknowledging the Bible as our primary reference point in matters of faith. Through this, we can be strengthened in our faith and recognize the truth as a guide for our lives.

Does Job Fear God for Naught? | The Essence of Our Service (God’s Servant, Job)

November 11, 2023 By admin

The Book of Job reveals a fascinating conversation between God and Satan regarding a faithful servant of God. Satan suggests that Job is a servant of God because he was showered with blessings and prosperity. He claims that Job maintained his faith due to these blessings and would lose it once these blessings were taken away. Satan implies that Job’s loyalty depends on his personal gain.
In a way, Satan poses a challenging question to all of us: Why do we serve God? If we’re honest, we might have wondered if our motives are pure and selfless.
Imagine if our faith and loyalty to God were based on external blessings—wealth, happiness, or health. What happens if these things are suddenly taken away? Would we remain as steadfast in our faith?
The truth is, our motives may often be shaped by selfishness and our own needs. Perhaps, we serve God in hope of blessings or a better life. But what if these motives aren’t pure? Should we wait until our motives are perfect before living out our faith?
The reality is, none of us is perfect. We all carry traces of selfishness and weakness in our motives. But that doesn’t render our service to God meaningless or invalid. We are called to live out our faith and strive for perfection, even when we are not perfect. We may bring our imperfections and selfish motives before God and let Him transform us.
Let’s trust that God is working on our hearts, shaping us in His love as we continue our service to Him. Let’s not be discouraged by our imperfections but encourage each other to live out our faith, examine our hearts, and lay our motives before God.
Prayer: Lord, reveal to us the true motives of our hearts. Change and purify our intentions as we serve You. Let us recognize Your strength in our weaknesses and be guided by Your love as we live out our faith. Amen.

Lesson 7 Mission to my Neighbor – 7.1 The Question of Questions

November 11, 2023 By admin

The questions regarding our origin, the meaning of life, and our destiny after death are indeed fundamental questions that concern the essence of humanity. The episode in the Gospel of Luke, where a legal expert asked Jesus how to attain eternal life, shows the urgency and significance of these existential questions.
Though the legal expert might have come with the intention to test Jesus, he used the opportunity to touch the deeper thoughts of this man’s heart and the listeners. This encounter illustrates that despite potential initial doubts or dishonest intentions behind the questions, there remains a pressing need for spiritual truth and answers.
The emphasis on eternal life in the Bible is of great importance as it highlights the infinity and significance beyond our temporally limited existence. Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 15:30-32 underscores the urgency of eternal life by emphasizing the reality of suffering and toil in life and suggesting that without hope for the eternal, the situation of humanity would be the saddest.
The central questions about eternal life and the meaning of existence remain timeless and crucial for us as mortal beings. This encounter between Jesus and the legal expert reminds us that even behind possible skepticism or disbelief, there can lie profound yearnings for truth, hope, and a deeper meaning of life. Jesus used this opportunity to reach people, showing us that even amidst doubts and tests, the quest for answers to life’s existential questions is a journey that can ultimately lead to the discovery of truth and meaning.
