7: Motivated By Hope – Teaching Plan

May 12, 2024 By admin

Key Thought: The second coming is one of the central themes of Scripture. This lesson will look at the manner, time, and place of the second coming and the time of judgment before He comes.
May 18, 2024

1. Have a volunteer read Acts 1:9-11, Matthew 24:27,30,36.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. What do these verses tell us about the manner of Jesus’ coming?
  3. Personal Application: How does the second coming bring hope to your religious and cultural thinking and life? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of you relatives states, “I thought Jesus’ coming was a secret and silent event. When the rapture takes place, people will be disappearing and many will be left behind wondering what happened.”” How would you respond to your relative?
    (Note: I Thessalonians 5:2-5, Hebrews 9:28, 2 Peter 3:10-12, Isaiah 65:15-17)

2. Have a volunteer read Daniel 9:25-27; Ezra 7:7-13.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. When would this prophetic period begin?
(Note: The commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem was in the seventh year of Artaxexes in 457BC. This decree came with a promise of soldiers, writs of passage, building supplies, food, money)
  3. Personal Application: When Christ came, what was He supposed to do? Share your thoughts
(Note: To cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, confirm the covenant, be cut off but not for Himself)
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “I thought the 70th week was after the church age and rapture when antichrist would destroy the temple after the Jews started sacrificing animals again.?” How would you respond to your friend?
(Note: See Rev 12:5,6,14,15; Rev 11:2; Daniel 7:25.)

3. Have a volunteer read Daniel 8:14.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What was to happen at the end of the 2300 days?.
  3. Personal Application: How do you feel about living during the judgment? Is there more required of us now than those who lived before the judgment? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “How do you connect the 70 weeks of Daniel 9 to Daniel 8’s 2300 days?” How would you respond to your neighbor? (Note: The 70 weeks was determined (chathak – cut off, amputated) from the 2300 days. The 70-week prophecy of Jesus’ fiirst coming was to seal up the 2300 day prophecy. To seal it up means to make it sure.)

4. Have a volunteer read Mark 1:15; Galatians 4:4, Romans 5:6.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What do these verses tell us about God’s timetable for the first Advent?
  3. Personal Application: Why is a correct understanding of prophetic symbolism so important to our faith? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.

(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared.”Ministry of Healing, p. 148).

7: Motivated by Hope – Singing with Inspiration

May 12, 2024 By admin

Our learning this quarter will show us that
God Is Working His Purpose Out – Hymn 225 so that we will Lift Up The Trumpet because
Jesus Is Coming Again – Hymn 213. You may have two hymns from which to choose for your theme hymn this quarter.

This week shows us the glorious hope that is written of so many times in the Bible. Hallelujah! We are reminded so strongly that
We Have This Hope – Hymn 214 because
‘Tis Almost Time For The Lord To Come – Hymn 212. We are to go forward and lift up the trumpet
Jesus Is Coming Again – Hymn 213 just as did William Miller, Wycliffe, Calvin, Ellen White and a vast number of other beautiful people.

Sunday again points us to
The Lord Is Coming – Hymn 200 and
Christ Is Coming – Hymn 201 to name just two of the many hymns in this section, Second Advent, in our SDA Hymnal.

It is with great wonder that we are taught that “every eye” will see Jesus
When He Comes – Hymn 220 to take us Home (Monday). So please,
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus – Hymn 204 as we are listening for the “trumpet blast of His return”.

When William Miller was “comparing scripture with scripture, he allowed the Bible to explain itself” and so we are to request
Give Me The Bible – Hymn 272 to keep on learning.

May we continue to search the scriptures this week to be blessed and to bless many others.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org/Search and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Lesson 7.Motivated by Hope | 7.2 Anticipating the Time

May 12, 2024 By admin

7.2 Anticipating the Time
Christ’s Return: Clarity Amidst Human Misunderstandings
Understanding Christ’s return has undergone various interpretations over time. While the Protestant reformers believed in the literal, visible, and glorious return of Christ, this understanding evolved throughout history. In the 19th century, popular preachers often taught the notion that Christ would come to establish His kingdom on earth and initiate a thousand years of peace. However, this led to spiritual lethargy and an apathetic attitude towards spiritual values.
Similar to the disciples of Christ, they too misunderstood the nature of the Messiah’s coming. They expected a victorious warrior who would break the Roman yoke instead of someone who would free them from condemnation and the bondage of sin. These misunderstandings led to confusion about how Christ would come, emphasizing the importance of thorough biblical interpretation and contextual understanding of prophetic scriptures.
Read Acts 1:9–11; Revelation 1:7, and Matthew 24:27, 30–31. What do these verses teach us about the manner of our Lord’s return?
The verses from Acts 1:9–11; Revelation 1:7, and Matthew 24:27, 30–31 teach us that the return of our Lord will happen with great power and glory and will be visible to all. When Christ comes again, “every eye” will see Him, everyone will hear the trumpet sound of His return, and behold His glory. These events will be unmistakable and audible, leaving no room for deception.
The Holy Scriptures describe these events very clearly, giving believers a precious and inspiring hope. The doctrine of Christ’s return is a central theme of the Bible, shaping the expectation of believers since the days of the first couple in the Garden of Eden. It is a promise that Christ will come to complete the work of redemption and gather His people to Himself.
Given this truth, it is imperative that we prepare for and remain ready for Christ’s return. The message of His imminent return is a call to examine our hearts, evaluate our spiritual lives, and live a life pleasing to God. In the light of the glory of Christ’s return, there is no neutrality; it requires a clear decision and a determined life in accordance with God’s will.
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:2–5 and Hebrews 9:28. What encouragement do these verses give us regarding the manner of Christ’s coming?
In 1 Thessalonians 5:2–5, it is mentioned that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. This means that the exact timing of Christ’s coming is uncertain, and people should prepare by living in faith and vigilance. The verses encourage us to be ready and to live in the light rather than in the darkness of sin.
Hebrews 9:28 indicates that Christ will not appear because of sin at His second coming, but He will bring salvation to those who eagerly wait for Him. These verses encourage us to patiently wait for Christ and trust that He will fulfill His promise of redemption. Taken together, these verses teach us that Christ’s coming is uncertain but that we should be prepared by living in faith and trusting in His promises.
The connection of these verses to our everyday lives and faith is crucial. They remind us that a believer’s life should be oriented toward the return of Christ.
  1. Preparation and Vigilance: The analogy of the “thief in the night” in 1 Thessalonians 5:2–5 reminds us that we should be ready at all times, for we do not know when Christ will return. This means living a life of vigilance, where we live in faith and holiness, ready to meet our Lord. In daily life, this means staying away from the temptations of sin and instead focusing on living a life that honors God.
  2. Patience and Trust: Hebrews 9:28 reminds us to patiently wait for Christ, as He will bring salvation at His second coming. This patience requires deep trust in God’s promises and His sovereign control over time. In difficult times, this means trusting in God’s faithfulness and believing that He will ultimately work all things for good.
  3. Clarity and Determination: The clear depiction of Christ’s return in the mentioned Bible verses reminds us that there is no neutrality. We must make a clear decision and live a determined life in accordance with God’s will. This requires determination and steadfastness in daily faith life, choosing consciously to follow Christ and seek His kingdom.
Overall, these verses encourage us to actively live out our faith by preparing for Christ’s return, patiently waiting for Him, and remaining steadfast in His way. They serve as a reminder that our everyday life and faith are inseparably linked and should be oriented towards honoring Christ and obeying His will.

Thought of the Day: Faith in the Future: Prepare, stay vigilant, and trust in God’s promises.

God’s Property

May 12, 2024 By admin

I have lent him to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:28.

From Shiloh, Hannah quietly returned to her home at Ramah, leaving the child Samuel to be trained for service in the house of God, under the instruction of the high priest. From the earliest dawn of intellect she had taught her son to love and reverence God and to regard himself as the Lord’s. By every familiar object surrounding him she had sought to lead his thoughts up to the Creator. When separated from her child, the faithful mother’s solicitude did not cease. Every day he was the subject of her prayers. Every year she made, with her own hands, a robe of service for him; and as she went up with her husband to worship at Shiloh, she gave the child this reminder of her love. Every fiber of the little garment had been woven with a prayer that he might be pure, noble, and true. She did not ask for her son worldly greatness, but she earnestly pleaded that he might attain that greatness which Heaven values—that he might honor God and bless his fellow men.

What a reward was Hannah’s! and what an encouragement to faithfulness is her example! There are opportunities of inestimable worth, interests infinitely precious, committed to every mother. The humble round of duties which women have come to regard as a wearisome task should be looked upon as a grand and noble work. It is the mother’s privilege to bless the world by her influence, and in doing this she will bring joy to her own heart. She may make straight paths for the feet of her children, through sunshine and shadow, to the glorious heights above. But it is only when she seeks, in her own life, to follow the teachings of Christ that the mother can hope to form the character of her children after the divine pattern. The world teems with corrupting influences. Fashion and custom exert a strong power over the young. If the mother fails in her duty to instruct, guide, and restrain, her children will naturally accept the evil, and turn from the good. Let every mother go often to her Saviour with the prayer, “Teach us, how shall we order the child, and what shall we do unto him?” Let her heed the instruction which God has given in His word, and wisdom will be given her as she shall have need.25Patriarchs and Prophets, 572, 573.

Dear Friends,
Names. How careful we must be when we name our helpless babe. A name can make or break the person. I used to have a friend whose name was Nayon. Her mother had a friend by that name, but how Nayon hated her name. Whenever someone asked for her name, she got many strange looks. Then she felt compelled to explain.
In the Bible, babies were of named according to something that happened surrounding their birth. Seeing what the various Biblical names mean makes for interesting study. For example, Isaac was named “he laughs” because Abraham and Sarah laughed when God told Abraham that she was going to have a baby. (Gen 17:17; 18:12) Esau was named “hairy” because he was covered with red hair. Jacob’s name meant “heel holder” or “supplanter” because he took hold of Esau’s heel during the birthing process. (Gen 25:25, 26)
The name of Jesus, how precious it is! His name tells Who He is: the Saviour! The angel commanded Joseph, “thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matt 1:23 Truly He is the “Wonderful Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isa 9:6
Through the name of Jesus, His followers taught the people the way to eternal life, had power to heal the sick, cast out demons, even raised the dead. (Matt 10:8) Looking at the future reward of God’s people, John tells us, “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” Rev 22:4 Will we have a visible mark tattooed across our forehead that says “Jesus”? No! His name is His character, His glory. When Moses asked to see God’s glory, he was told, “I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee.” As Moses was in the cleft of the rock, “the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Ex 33:19; 34:5-7
When our Great Creator gave us the Ten Commandments, which are a transcript of His Character and a rule for our happiness, He proclaimed, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Ex 20:7 This commandment encompasses more than common swearing, for that sin can be forgiven. When we take on the name of Christ, we are to become like Him in character. Paul tells us, “Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Tim 2:19 When we fail to do so, over and over again, we become hardened in our sin, “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof” to gain the victory. 2 Tim 3:5 Eventually, we get discouraged and turn away from our Only Hope, our Only Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Fearful position—a position that we need not be in, for our Great Redeemer has provided us with all that we need to be saved, even giving His Most Precious Gift, His Only Begotten Son. (John 3:16)
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, . . work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Phil 2:5-13 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.” Jude 24, 25
