3: Memorials of Grace — Teaching Plan

October 12, 2025 By admin

Key Thought: We need to keep the heart and mind in training by remembering the lessons God taught Israel. Modern Israel is in greater danger of forgetting God and falling into idolatry than were ancient Israelis.
October 18, 2025

1. Have a volunteer read Joshua 3:1-5.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. Why did God ask the Israelites to specifically prepare for what was about to happen?
  3. Personal Application: How do you think we can develop the spiritual preparation to experience and discern God’s interventions on our behalf? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “How do you define miracles? How come we don’t see these types of miracles today? Don’t we have enough faith, or because we are not a theocracy today, Is that why God doesn’t perform these types of miracles today?” How would you respond to your relative?

2. Have a volunteer read Joshua 3:6-17. John 4.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. Why did God ask the Israelites to build a memorial?
  3. Personal Application: What are some of the memorials from your own walk with God that help you remember what He has done for you? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “What memories do you have that help you in difficult times? Why is it important to have these memories and hold onto them in your life?” How would you respond to your friend?

3. Have a volunteer read John 4:20-24.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. Why is it important to remember what God has done for Israel and what God has done for you in spectacular fashion
  3. Personal Application: Why is it important to have a daily experience with Him and the reality of His love and presence in your life now? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “Some church members tend to rely on past experiences or deeds that they did. But have slacked off and want to believe that what they have done shows they have a good relationship with God. What is the problem with this attitude?” How would you respond to your neighbor?

4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 11:24,25, John 14:26.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. Why must we always remember what Christ has done for us?
  3. Personal Application: How can we use the Sabbath as a remembrance of what God has done for us in the past and what we can hope for in the future? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.

(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared. ”Ministry of Healing, p. 148)

Monday: The Living God of Wonders

October 12, 2025 By admin

Daily Lesson for Monday 13th of October 2025

Read Joshua 3:6-17. What does the miraculous crossing of the Jordan tell us about the nature of the God whom we serve?

The crossing of the Jordan River is described in Joshua 3:5 by the Hebrew word niphla’ot, “miracles, wonders,” which usually refers to the mighty, supernatural acts of God that demonstrate His uniqueness (Psalms 72:18, Psalms 86:10). Later, the Israelites meditated on these acts and, as a result, praised the Lord (Psalms 9:1) and proclaimed Him among the nations (Psalms 96:3). The plagues in Egypt (Exodus 3:20, Micah 7:15), the crossing of the Red Sea, and God’s guidance in the wilderness (Psalms 78:12-16) were recounted as such wonders.

The authors of the Bible knew and testified to the fact that the God who created the world was never limited or constrained by His creation. Nothing is impossible (Heb. “too wonderful”) for Him to accomplish (Jeremiah 32:17). His name and His nature are wonderful (Judges 13:18), and He is beyond our comprehension.

In contrast with the gods of the other nations, who cannot save (Psalms 96:5, Isaiah 44:8), the God of the Bible is a “living God,” active and alive, whose followers can trust Him in anticipation of His interventions on their behalf.

The prophet Zechariah used the same term (from the same root as niphla’ot) as he envisioned a future for Israel after the Babylonian exile. He saw that Jerusalem would be fully rebuilt with old people sitting in the streets of the city and boys and girls playing there. To the seemingly incredulous inhabitants of the capital still displaying the signs of its destruction, Zechariah declared: “ ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: If it is marvelous in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my sight, declares the Lord of hosts? Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country, and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem’ ” (Zechariah 8:6-8, ESV).

Read Luke 18:18-27. How does Jesus’ answer to His disciples encourage you to trust God with what seems impossible?
