The world hasn’t had much to celebrate this year. Weary with care and worry, it has never felt the need of a Savior more. That’s why Christmas is so meaningful to us this year. The words of the old song, “O Holy Night,” written more than 170 years ago, say it best: “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices / For yonder lies a new and glorious morn . . .” That thrilling hope is what guides us at Adventist World Radio, and today we can rejoice and “fall on our knees” in gratitude for what God has done. It has truly been a year of miracles. This Sabbath is AWR World Baptism Day (more information below). People in countries all around the world will rejoice as they begin a new life in Jesus. And if that’s not a cause for celebration, I don’t know what is! In this short video, members of our AWR administration team share a few of their favorite stories from the past year. Luis Miguel’s parents were dedicated evangelical missionaries in Mexico, but growing up, he wanted no part of his parents’ religion. He had dreams to pursue that didn’t include God. Then his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and before Luis Miguel realized what was happening, she passed away. He was devastated, and now all he wanted to do was return to the God of his parents and share his newfound faith with others. Then one day, he got a text from a friend that contained a biblical message. It was none other than one of AWR’s cell phone evangelism presentations, and it was on the state of the dead. Luis Miguel was blown away! He’d never heard such a thing—and it was right in the Bible! In the early 1860s, there was a gold-prospecting camp near Sacramento called Roaring Camp. It was comprised of only men except for one lone woman—Cherokee Sal. The story is told that this woman became pregnant and bore a son, but she herself died in childbirth. Heartbroken, the men decided to raise the child themselves, and that’s when the miracle transformation began. That tiny defenseless child changed the men of Roaring Camp from unruly, unkempt drunkards, to clean, respectable men. This month we remember another child born in humble circumstances—a child who changed not a camp, a town, or even a country—but the whole world. Because when Jesus comes into the heart, He changes everything. That is our message. The light that shines from Bethlehem to the Cross is what guides Adventist World Radio today.
