Dennis Porter was born in 1930 in Tottenham to a mother who became an Adventist in 1899 at thirteen. The baby Dennis was dedicated in the Holloway church, and according to his sixteen-year-old sister, he bawled throughout the ceremony. His parents later moved to Edmonton, and his mother took him to the church there. It was a momentous occasion as pastors and leaders from the British Union Conference (BUC), a vital part of our Division, were among the nearly 1200 attendees across the Trans-European Division (TED) who gathered for the quinquennial European Pastors’ Council in Belgrade, Serbia.

We live in a world where complaining and dissatisfaction are often the default. We quantify ‘our lack’ rather than counting our blessings. And there is much in the 21st century to cause us continual moments of displeasure and discontent.
