ADRA-UK and ADRA Rwanda Work Together on Children’s Education and Advancement

March 12, 2020 By admin

According to UNESCO, there are currently 130 million girls in the world who don’t have access to education. Most of them live in remote areas in some of the world’s poorest regions. Darja Markek, ADRA-UK Programmes Officer, shares what ADRA is doing in Rwanda to help address this issue.Since 2017 ADRA Rwanda and ADRA-UK have been working with a group of NGOs* in 28 remotely located schools in Nyaruguru District, Rwanda, as part of the Rwandan Girls’ Education and Advancement Programme 2 (REAP2)…Source: https://adventist.uk/news/article/go/2020-03-12/adra-uk-and-adra-rwanda-work-together-on-childrens-education-and-advancement/

BUC Pathfinders’ Bible Experience Uses Innovative Ways to Beat CoronaVirus Event Cancellations

March 12, 2020 By admin

With the annual Pathfinder Bible Experience (PBE) and Adventurer Bible Experience (ABE) due to be held at Newbold College this Sabbath (14 March), concerns were raised about the safety of hosting a large event in one venue in light of the coronavirus.
Rather than cancelling the entire event which would mean forfeiting many months of preparation by the children for this day, the decision was made involving BUC field presidents and the BUC Youth department, to use video conferencing.
This would…Source: https://adventist.uk/news/article/go/2020-03-12/buc-pathfinders-bible-experience-uses-innovative-ways-to-beat-coronavirus-event-cancellations/

Inside Story: European Division ~ Fetus Refused to Die

March 12, 2020 By admin

Fetus Refused to Die

By Victor Hulbert

“I’m very sorry”, the doctor told Fusae Suzuki. “Your husband is very young but, unfortunately, he will die tonight or at the most in a few days”.

The news devastated the young Japanese mother. She went to the river to fetch water and, looking into the water, considered throwing herself in. But then two men in black suits appeared.

“Be patient for just a while”, said one.

“Yes, be patient”, said the other.

After those words, the men disappeared from her sight.

The encounter pulled Fusae back from despair, and she returned home to nurse her husband, Mitsuharu, a farmer stricken with tuberculosis.

Soon she was pregnant with her second child. Mitsuharu could not bear the thought of his wife struggling to raise two children on her own. Finally she agreed to his pleas to terminate the pregnancy. The government supported the decision.

The pharmacist prescribed a strong medicine that, she promised, would work without fail.

“Be careful with the medicine, and don’t exceed the prescribed dose”, she cautioned. “Otherwise, your own life will be in danger”.

Fusae swallowed the first dose, enough to end the pregnancy. Weeping in sorrow, she felt the fetus move. “My baby’s still alive!” she cried out.

The next day, she repeated the dose. Then again on the third day. Yet the fetus kept moving inside her. In desperation, she drained the medicine bottle, but still the baby remained alive.

“It’s totally unbelievable!” she told her husband.

A healthy baby boy was born. Several months later, she and Mitsuharu attended evangelistic meetings, and they were baptized on Akeri’s first birthday.

“Their baptismal date always reminds me that God intervened in my mother’s womb to save my life”, said Akeri Suzuki, a veteran Japanese pastor who retired after serving as executive secretary of the Adventist Church’s Northern Asia-Pacific Division. “My parents became the first Adventist church members in my village”.

Akeri was 30 before his mother revealed his origins.

“When I heard the story of my birth from my mother, I was terribly shocked and felt as if I had been struck by powerful lightening”, he said. “My whole body trembled”.

Overwhelmed by God’s tremendous love, he thought, “I am a very precious gift from God”.

He re-dedicated himself to God at that very moment.

“God intervened in my mother’s womb to save my life”, he said.

Victor Hulbert is communication director for the Trans-European Division.

Friday: Further Thought ~ From Battle to Victory

March 12, 2020 By admin

Further Thought:

“For three weeks Gabriel wrestled with the powers of darkness, seeking to counteract the influences at work on the mind of Cyrus.  … All that heaven could do in behalf of the people of God was done. The victory was finally gained; the forces of the enemy were held in check all the days of Cyrus, and all the days of his son Cambyses”. — Ellen G. White, Prophets and Kings, p. 572.

“What great honor is shown to Daniel by the Majesty of heaven! He comforts His trembling servant and assures him that his prayer has been heard in heaven. In answer to that fervent petition the angel Gabriel was sent to affect the heart of the Persian king. The monarch had resisted the impressions of the Spirit of God during the three weeks while Daniel was fasting and praying, but heaven’s Prince, the Archangel, Michael, was sent to turn the heart of the stubborn king to take some decided action to answer the prayer of Daniel”. — Ellen G. White, The Sanctified Life, p. 51.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Though we are not the first people in Christian history to see this truth, as Seventh-day Adventists we are strong proponents of the “great controversy” motif, or the idea that the entire universe is part of an epic struggle between Christ and Satan. And we believe that every human being is, indeed, involved in this controversy. Others, even secular people, have talked about the reality of some kind of battle in which we are all immersed. What has been your own experience in the great controversy? How have you seen it manifested in your own life? What have you learned that could help others struggling, as well?
  2. Read Ephesians 6:10-18. Notice the overt military imagery that Paul uses. What “battle instructions” are given here for us in the great controversy?
  3. In Daniel 10:11, for a second time (see Dan. 9:23) Daniel is called hamudot, or “beloved”. What does this tell us about the close link, even an emotional link, between heaven and earth? Think about how radically different this reality is when compared to the common atheistic view of much of the modern world. What hope does this Bible view, as seen in this reference to Daniel, offer us?

<–Thursday

Amen!(1)

Read the Book of Daniel

March 12, 2020 By admin

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Daniel 1:17.

The light that Daniel received direct from God was given especially for these last days. The visions he saw by the banks of the Ulai and the Hiddekel, the great rivers of Shinar, are now in process of fulfillment, and all the events foretold will soon come to pass.

Consider the circumstances of the Jewish nation when the prophecies of Daniel were given. The Israelites were in captivity, the Temple had been destroyed, their Temple service suspended. Their religion had centered in the ceremonies of the sacrificial system. They had made the outward form all-important, while they had lost the spirit of true worship. Their services were corrupted with traditions and practices of heathenism, and in the performance of the sacrificial rites they did not look beyond the shadow of the substance. They did not discern Christ, the True Offering for the sins of man. The Lord wrought to bring the people into captivity, and to suspend the services in the Temple, in order that the outward ceremonies might not become the total of their religion. The principles and practices must be purged of heathenism, the ritual service ceased, in order that the heart might be revived. The outward glory was removed, that the spiritual might be revealed.

In the land of their captivity, as the people returned unto the Lord with repentance, He manifested Himself unto them. They lacked the outward representation of His presence, but bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness shone into their minds and hearts. When they called unto God in their humiliation and distress, visions were given to the prophets which unfolded the events of the future—the overthrow of the oppressors of God’s people, the coming of the Redeemer, and the establishment of the everlasting kingdom….

Daniel had companions, and they had a special work to do. Although greatly honored in this work, they did not become in any way exalted. They were scholars, being skilled in secular as well as religious knowledge; but they had studied science without being corrupted. They were well-balanced because they had yielded themselves to the control of the Holy Spirit. These youth gave to God all the glory of their secular, scientific, and religious endowments. Their learning did not come by chance; they obtained knowledge by the faithful use of their powers; and God gave them skill and understanding.—Letter 134, May 27, 1898, to J. H. Kellogg.

Prayer Requests
—-Please pray for my youngest daughter she is fighting demons. Rene
—-Praise—Yesterday Ron lost his hearing aid. He had a mask on at the doctor’s office and as near as he can figure it came out when he took the mask off in the car. Praise the Lord He sent His angel to guide it into the green bag he carries his stuff in! After searching everywhere, Eileen found it there. Rose
—-A friend has sent this request asking for our prayer support for his wife. Prayers appreciated. ”
Karla had 4 strokes in the last 2 weeks. She was NOT doing well and didn’t eat for 4 days. The dr. told me I wouldn’t be taking her home alive BUT she must have been listening and has been eating like a logger since and they transported her to Sequim for rehab. Today they locked down the rehab center because of the virus and in checking Karla she had a 99.8 fever – but they think she aspirated some food and may have picked up so far a low stage case of pneumonia. they will let me know tomorrow plus the entire center was tested for the virus. KEEP HER IN PRAYER as she is very weak and needs all the prayers she can get.” Michael
