Friday: Further Thought – Parables

July 25, 2024 By admin

Daily Lesson for Friday 26th of July 2024

Read Ellen G. White, “ ‘The Sower Went Forth to Sow,’ ” Pages 33–61, in Christ’s Object Lessons.

“True holiness is wholeness in the service of God. This is the condition of true Christian living. Christ asks for an unreserved consecration, for undivided service. He demands the heart, the mind, the soul, the strength. Self is not to be cherished. He who lives to himself is not a Christian.

“Love must be the principle of action. Love is the underlying principle of God’s government in heaven and earth, and it must be the foundation of the Christian’s character. This alone can make and keep him steadfast. This alone can enable him to withstand trial and temptation.

“And love will be revealed in sacrifice. The plan of redemption was laid in sacrifice—a sacrifice so broad and deep and high that it is immeasurable. Christ gave all for us, and those who receive Christ will be ready to sacrifice all for the sake of their Redeemer. The thought of His honor and glory will come before anything else.”—Ellen G. White, Christ’s Object Lessons, Pages 48, 49.

Discussion Questions

  1. “Love must be the principle of action. Love is the underlying principle of God’s government in heaven and earth.” How does the Cross reveal this amazing truth to us? In our lives, how can we reflect this kind of love? Why must we?
  2. How would you respond to someone who insisted that Jesus told parables to keep outsiders in the dark? Why would Jesus, who died for every human being (see 1 John 2:2), deliberately keep in the dark people whom He had died on the cross to save?
  3. A lamp is supposed to be on a lampstand, not under a basket (Mark 4:21). Apply this principle to your church’s engagement with your local community. How can you lift the light up higher?
  4. Consider the parable of the growing seed (Mark 4:26-29). What part do humans play in helping the gospel seed to grow, and what part does God play? Though we obviously play a role, how can we still make sure we are totally dependent upon God? Could this attitude of total dependence perhaps be part of what we need to do in order to grow?

Sachiko’s Journey of Faith and the Power of Prayer

July 25, 2024 By admin

Sachiko, after witnessing the selfless actions of an Adventist family in America, wanted to know their God. Upon returning to Japan, her newfound faith was put to the test when she became pregnant with her second child. Doctors identified abnormalities and suggested she reconsider her pregnancy. Eiko turned to prayer, and by God's grace, she delivered a healthy son. Now more committed to the Lord's will than ever, when the opportunity arose to preach in Mindoro with AWR, she didn't hesitate to sign up

Sachiko’s Journey from Buddhism to Preaching

July 25, 2024 By admin

Meet Sachiko, a Tokyo resident who understands the importance of evangelism. Eiko was raised as a Buddhist, but its teachings always confused her. Her life took a turn when she had the opportunity to visit America and stay with an Adventist family. She observed their regular acts of kindness, feeding the homeless and showing self-sacrifice. This led Sachiko to gaze at the sky one day and question who this God was that inspired such love for mankind. Amidst her spiritual journey, she was invited by AWR to preach the gospel, emphasizing that it's not just pastors who should proclaim the gospel, but anyone who knows Jesus and trusts in Him. In preparation for the meetings, Sachiko prayed every day

July 2024 President’s Video: “What Could Be Better Than That?”

July 25, 2024 By admin

If you want to sum up Adventist World Radio’s mission, our logo says it all: Broadcast to Baptism. It’s what Jesus told his disciples then, and tells us today: to teach, preach and baptize. Not confusing or complicated instructions, but simple and straightforward: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Matthew 28:19, 20) That’s it. Today there are many issues in the world and in the church that may distract and derail us from the mission, but if we “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and the perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1, 2), we are promised the presence of Jesus—until the end of the world! What could be better than that? Here is a short video where I share a few of the highlights from Papua New Guinea, and how God’s plans—and His promise—never fail. If we follow the instructions of Jesus, He will never disappoint us, but will reward all efforts—imperfect as they may be—to share His message and tell the world the good news that Jesus is coming soon! I love to see lives changed for God’s kingdom, and I especially love it when He uses Adventist World Radio to do it. Yours in the Blessed Hope, Duane McKey
