Tuesday: Believing and New Birth

November 25, 2024 By admin

Daily Lesson for Tuesday 26th of November 2024

Read John 1:12-13. What are the steps described here about becoming a Christian?

John wrote his Gospel so that we would believe in Jesus and that by believing we may have eternal life in His name (John 20:31). In John 1:12-13, this process is described in two steps. First, we receive Him, that is, believe in Him. Second, He gives us authority or power to become God’s children, described in verse 13 as being begotten by God. Thus, there is a human and divine aspect of becoming a Christian. We must act in belief, receive Him, and be open to the light, but He is the one who regenerates the heart.

Sign that says Believe

In fact, faith itself is a gift of God that comes by hearing His Word (Romans 10:17). “In order to have true, abiding faith in Christ, we must know Him as He is represented in the word.”—Ellen G. White, Fundamentals of Christian Education, p. 433. “The Spirit operating upon and enlightening the human mind, creates faith in God.”—Ellen G. White Comments, The Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 940.

Those who believe or accept the Son as the Messiah receive everlasting life. John also emphasizes accepting or believing the Word that Jesus spoke (John 5:24,38,47). It is the role of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction (John 16:7-8; compare with Romans 8:16).

Read Romans 8:16. What principle about salvation in Jesus is found here?

Faith, biblical faith, based on the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, is the foundation of our faith. “Faith is . . . the great blessing—the eye that sees, the ear that hears.”—Ellen G. White, In Heavenly Places, p. 104. The humanistic approach to faith states that we must find a foundation, the criteria for faith, and then believe. In contrast, the biblical approach states that faith is the foundation, a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8, 1 Corinthians 1:17-24, 1 Corinthians 2:1-6). We start with the foundation of faith, and then from there we grow in understanding and grace.

If someone were to ask you what your faith is based on, how would you respond?

9: The Source of Life – Singing with Inspiration

November 24, 2024 By admin

John has written what is possibly the most well-known Bible verse in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son” which has had many say
Lord, I Have Made Thy Word My Choice – Hymn 273 and
Give Me The Bible – Hymn 272. John writes of many people who turned to Jesus in this quarter’s studies. Here are two hymns from which to choose for your theme hymn this quarter.

Life is a word used many times in Sunday’s study time, with many of the notes showing the same as we sing in
Hymn 412 – Cover With His Life. It is so beautiful to know that we can give praise
To The Name That Brings Salvation – Hymn 646 all because
God So Loved The World – Hymn 78.

Monday shows us so much about The Words of Eternal Life which finishes with us making the ultimate choice to say
All To Jesus I Surrender – Hymn 309.

On receiving our Lord Jesus into our lives, “He gives us authority or power to become God’s children”:
Hymn 101 – Children Of The Heavenly Father. We then grow more with the love of Jesus and find that “Faith is . . . the great blessing—the eye that sees, and the ear that hears”:
Hymn 533 – O For A Faith.

Thursday encourages us to see that
Christ Is The World’s Light – Hymn 234.

Please continue to search the scriptures this week to be blessed, and to bless many others.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org/Search and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

9: The Source of Life – Teaching Plan

November 24, 2024 By admin

Key Thought : In the gospel of John, Jesus said He was the great I AM – the way, the truth, and the life. He is the Light of the world, the Bread of life, the Gate and Door, the good Shepherd, and the true Vine.
November 30, 2024

1. Have a volunteer read John 6;61-68..

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. When Jesus asked the disciples if they would leave Him, what was the meaning of Peter’s answer?
  3. Personal Application: How does the promise of having eternal life impact how we view our temporal life here? How should it impact it? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “When someone says they accept truth by faith, does faith go against logic and reasoning? Is there any evidence for faith found in their Scriptures, or do Christians have blind faith?” How would you respond to your relative?

2. Have a volunteer read John 1:12,13.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What are the steps described here about becoming a Christian?
  3. Personal Application: What do you consider the best ways to help others see the truth of Jesus and have people come to Him? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “How can we best reach those who claim to be Christian or are members of Christian churches who do not see clearly the Divinity of Christ or the importance of the Sabbath or the state of the dead and other important truths for these last days?” How would you respond to your friend?

3. Have a volunteer read Numbers 13:23-33.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What made the difference between the two reports the spies brought back about Canaan?
  3. Personal Application: How do we avoid presumption in doing something foolish but believing we are doing God’s will? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “I think the Lord is calling me to go to Central Africa to preach the gospel and build up churches there. But I need to sell my house and leave my wife and kids here, at her parent’s house. I don’t know the languages or the culture and if I didn’t sell the house, I wouldn’t have any money either. And I really don’t want to go there, but I believe the Lord has called me.” Is this faith or presumption? How would you respond to your neighbor?

4. Have a volunteer read John 3:18-21, Matthew 4:1-4.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What principles did Christ use in the wilderness to combat the deceptions of Satan?
  3. Personal Application: How can we discern between Satan quoting Scripture to deceive or twist, and God’s Spirit quoting Scripture to clarify? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.

(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared.”Ministry of Healing, p. 148).
