Isaia 53:3 – Domenica 26 novembre 2023

Curse the Day | In the Shadow of Suffering – A Journey through Job’s Despair

November 25, 2023 By admin

Dear readers,
In the silence of suffering, we enter the world of Job. A man who once lived in abundance was suddenly overwhelmed by an avalanche of catastrophes. His prosperity turned to ashes, and the question of why lingered in the air like a shadow cast over his life.
Repeatedly, we hear Job cursing the day in the darkest moments of his suffering. “Curse the day,” some might think when darkness descends upon their existence. Yet, in this despair, we recognize that the Lord is above all. His Word reminds us that He is worthy to receive praise, honor, and power, for all things have been created through His will (Revelation 4:11).
Job knew nothing of the cosmic conflict’s background that is revealed to us today. His world crumbled, and he faced the ruins of his life. How often do we also feel in similar situations when seemingly groundless suffering befalls us?
But we, dear readers, have the advantage of knowing Job’s story and unraveling the hidden threads of the cosmic drama. We know how it ends. Job did not. He only knew that he was once a happy man who suddenly found himself in the midst of a storm of loss and pain.
Let us together delve deeper into Job’s story, not as distant observers but as learners. Let us try to put ourselves in Job’s shoes to understand the confusion, anger, and sorrow he experienced.
The world may have forgotten Job, but we do not want to. In our journey through Job’s despair, we seek answers to life’s puzzles. We follow in his footsteps, not to take on his suffering but to learn from his experiences.
In the upcoming posts, we will delve deeper into Job’s lamentations, his dialogues with his friends, and his search for meaning amid chaos. May this journey teach us not to curse the day but to kneel humbly before the Lord. May it help us recognize the truth even in the darkness: that the Lord is above all, even when we do not fully understand the reasons behind it.
In the silence of this moment, we enter Job’s world and seek hope amid suffering. Let us embark together on a journey through the deep waters of pain and doubt, firmly believing that light will break through the darkness in the end.
Gracious God,
We come into Your presence after traveling together through the depths of Job’s despair. In these moments of reflection, we seek Your guidance and wisdom.
Lord, we acknowledge that You are above all, even when we do not understand the reasons for our suffering. We trust that Your love and sovereignty will prevail over the shadow of suffering. Thank you for allowing us to learn through Job’s story, even in the darkest moments of our lives.
In the upcoming posts and on our own journey through life, we ask for insight and understanding. May Your grace guide us as we seek answers to life’s puzzles. Help us not to curse the day but to kneel humbly before You, knowing that You hold all things in Your hands.
In the silence of this moment, we seek hope amid suffering. May the light of Your love break through the darkness of our existence. Bless us as we continue to explore Job’s story and learn from his experiences.
With hope and humility, we conclude this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lesson 9.Mission to the Powerful | 9.1 Nebuchadnezzar

November 25, 2023 By admin

The Seventh-day Adventist belief in the “unlimited atonement” is a central aspect of their faith that sets them apart from some other Christian denominations. The core idea that Christ’s death applies to all of humanity and is not limited to a predetermined group is based on the conviction that God’s will encompasses the salvation of all people. This perspective is supported by biblical passages such as 1 Timothy 2:4 and 1 John 2:2, emphasizing that Jesus sacrificed Himself for the sins of the entire world.
Examining Daniel 4 provides a fascinating example of God’s work in the world, especially concerning the salvation of powerful unbelievers like King Nebuchadnezzar. This biblical account illustrates that God’s judgment is not only applied to those who already believe in Him but also extends to the powerful, who may be proud and unbelieving. The humiliation of the mighty king and his acknowledgment of the Creator God highlight God’s ability to reach both the strong and the weak.
An important aspect of this story is the role of dedicated believers like Daniel as bridges for proclaiming faith to powerful unbelievers. This interaction shows that God often uses human mediators to convey His message. At the same time, Nebuchadnezzar’s humiliation emphasizes that God can directly intervene in the lives of powerful unbelievers to lead them to understanding.
The warning against arrogance implicit in Nebuchadnezzar’s story is relevant in today’s context. Even if we do not belong to the rich and powerful, there is a risk of succumbing to arrogance. This attitude can arise through various avenues, whether through success, knowledge, or personal convictions. The humbling of the powerful king serves as a reminder that no one is immune to pride and arrogance, and it is crucial to always be aware that all people are equal before God.
Overall, the story of Nebuchadnezzar teaches us that God’s love and salvation apply to all people, regardless of their social status or power. It reminds us to remain humble and recognize the significance of our role as messengers of faith in the world.
Even if we are not rich and powerful by the world’s standards, why must we be careful to avoid the kind of arrogance that this king had manifested? Why might that attitude be easier to have than we might think?
The warning against arrogance, even when not perceived as rich and powerful in worldly terms, is crucial. Arrogance is an attitude rooted in excessive self-confidence and the devaluation of others. Here are some reasons why it is important to avoid this kind of arrogance, even if one does not hold an outstanding societal position:
  1. Equality before God: Regardless of social status, wealth, or power, all people are equal before God. The Bible emphasizes the equality of all people before God, leaving no room for arrogant behavior towards others (Galatians 3:28).
  2. Unpredictable circumstances: Life is unpredictable, and circumstances can change rapidly. Even someone currently considered not particularly rich or powerful may ascend to such a position in the future. It is important to maintain humility and recognize the transient nature of external circumstances.
  3. Personal growth and learning: Arrogance can hinder personal growth and learning. Believing to know everything or being superior in every aspect may close one off to new ideas, perspectives, and experiences. Humility, on the other hand, allows for an open heart and a receptive mind.
  4. Interpersonal relationships: Arrogance can strain interpersonal relationships. People appreciate humility and respect. Displaying arrogance may lead to avoidance by others or deterioration of interpersonal relationships.
  5. Self-deception: Arrogance can lead to self-deception. Believing to be perfect or superior in every way poses the risk of overlooking crucial areas for personal development. Self-reflection and a willingness to work on oneself are essential for personal growth.
  6. Spiritual awareness: Many spiritual traditions emphasize the importance of humility. An arrogant attitude can hinder spiritual growth and obstruct the path to deeper understanding and inner peace.
It is easy to fall into arrogance as social comparisons and the desire for recognition are pervasive. Society tends to view success and power as measures of worth and significance. The inclination to elevate oneself above others to gain self-esteem is widespread. It requires conscious efforts to resist these tendencies, focus on one’s strengths without devaluing others, and remain open to personal growth and change.

God’s Mission, My Mission – Lesson 9: Mission to the Mighty | Sabbath School with Pastor Mark Finley

November 25, 2023 By admin

Series GOD’S MISSION, MY MISSION with Pastor Mark Finley  |
Lesson 9: Mission to the Mighty |
Memory Text: 1: Matthew 16:26 – For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? |
Content:
9.1 Nebuchadnezzar

The emphasis on the “unlimited atonement” in Adventist doctrine underscores the universal redemption through Christ, irrespective of predetermined groups. The story of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 strikingly illustrates how even one of the most powerful men in the world was brought to reason through God’s intervention. This highlights that God’s mercy extends not only to the weak but also reaches the rich and powerful. Nebuchadnezzar’s humiliation due to pride and arrogance serves as a reminder that God chooses different paths to reach people, regardless of their power and status.
9.2 Naaman
The story of Naaman in 2 Kings 5 emphasizes the universality of Christ’s sacrifice for people of all backgrounds and statuses. Naaman’s extraordinary plea after his healing reveals his sincere devotion to the living God, even though pagan influences still lingered in his thinking. His willingness to faithfully serve the Lord despite challenges in a pagan land attests to Naaman’s genuine faith. Elisha’s response, “Go in peace,” emphasizes God’s gentle guidance for converts who are meant to grow step by step in faith.
9.3 Witnessing to the Learned: Nicodemus
The story of Nicodemus shows that external wealth and education do not necessarily fulfill a person’s spiritual needs. Despite his high position and knowledge, Nicodemus sought spiritual fulfillment and found it in Jesus. The encounter with Christ revealed that outward appearances can be deceptive and that everyone, regardless of social status, needs salvation. Nicodemus’s later actions, indicating a strong influence by Jesus, demonstrate the transformative power of the Gospel that can also reach seemingly powerful individuals.
9.4 Mission to the Rich
Jesus’s encounter with the rich young man in Matthew 19 emphasizes the challenge that wealth can pose to entering the kingdom of God. The statement that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle does not imply that the rich cannot be saved but highlights the potential obstacles that wealth can present. Both the rich and the poor face the same fate, death, and urgently need salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The comparison between the rich young man and Zacchaeus in Luke 19 shows that the response to Jesus is crucial, and while the rich man clung to his possessions, Zacchaeus was willing to change his life and respond to Jesus’s call.
9.5 Mission to the Powerful
The text emphasizes Jesus’s ability to befriend the mighty, eliciting admiration and respect, but also disdain. Examples of Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea show that many rich and powerful individuals initially come to Jesus in secret to ensure he is truly the Son of God. The account of Joseph of Arimathea in Matthew 27 illustrates how God used a wealthy man influenced by Jesus for His purposes.
Mission among the mighty requires wisdom to know where to begin. It is often more effective to let the mighty come to you rather than actively seeking them out, as Jesus did. The subtle partnership with the mighty should be based on genuine service, as they want to be part of something good that transforms lives. The call to invest time in the lives of the rich and powerful and to pray for them demonstrates a practical approach to mission among this group.
