In this chapter, God requests His people to make an offering from the plunder that Israel had received from the Egyptians. These gifts were to come from the heart of the people, given freely and willingly, from the best that they had. The Israelites gave generously so that they might have a place where God could dwell and where they could come in contact with the divine. Are you giving the best that you have to the Lord– your resources, time, and strength? While the people were to build the wilderness tabernacle, it was designed “after the pattern” that God showed them. This tabernacle on earth was a “pattern” of “heavenly things” (Heb 9:23, 24). It was designed as a “copy of the great original” in heaven (GC 414; Heb 8:2). Here in the earthly tabernacle the people were taught the truths relating to Christ’s sacrifice and the final end to the controversy between Christ and Satan. We serve a God who has always desired to reveal His plan of redemption to His people. We can be eternally grateful that we worship a living God who today continues as our Advocate, Savior, and Judge in the true sanctuary in heaven. Michael Hasel

Tuesday: The Sabbath

March 28, 2022 By admin

ReadΒ Genesis 2:2-3,Β Β andΒ Exodus 20:8-11. Why is the seventh-day Sabbath related to Creation? How does this connection impact how we keep the Sabbath?

It is precisely because β€œGod ended” His works of Creation that He instituted the Sabbath. The seventh-day Sabbath is, therefore, the expression of our faith that God finished His work then, and that He found it β€œvery good.” To keep the Sabbath is to join with God in the recognition of the value and beauty of His creation.

We can rest from our works just as God had rested from His. Sabbath keeping means saying yes to God’s β€œvery good” Creation, which includes our physical bodies. Contrary to some ancient (and modern) beliefs, nothing in Scripture, Old or New Testament, denigrates the body as evil. That’s a pagan concept, not a biblical one. Instead, Sabbath keepers are grateful for God’s creation β€” which includes their own flesh β€” and that is why they can enjoy the Creation and why they take care of it.

The Sabbath, which marks the first β€œend” of human history, is also a sign of hope for suffering humankind and for the groaning of the world. It is interesting that the phrase β€œfinished the work” reappears at the end of the construction of the sanctuaryΒ (Exodus 40:33), and again at the end of the building of Solomon’s templeΒ (1 Kings 7:40,Β 1 Kings 7:51)Β β€” both places where the lesson of the gospel and salvation had been taught.

After the Fall, the Sabbath, at the end of the week, points to the miracle of salvation, which will take place only through the miracle of a new creationΒ (Isaiah 65:17,Β Revelation 21:1). The Sabbath is a sign at the end of our human week that the suffering and trials of this world will have an end, as well.

This is why Jesus chose the Sabbath as the most appropriate day to heal the sickΒ (Luke 13:13-16). Contrary to whatever traditions the leaders were stuck in, by the Sabbath healings Jesus pointed the people, and us, to the time when all pain, all suffering, all death, will be over, which is the ultimate conclusion to the salvation process. Hence, each Sabbath points us to the hope of redemption.

How by resting on the Sabbath day are we experiencing the rest and salvation that we have in Jesus now and that will be fulfilled, ultimately, in the creation of the new heaven and new earth?

<–Monday Wednesday–>

Amen!(0)

Exodus 24 | Believe His Prophets | Daily Bible Reading Guide πŸ•Š

Moses wrote all the words of the Lord which became the book of the covenant. This is the first “book” mentioned as being written, although earlier in Exod 17:14 Moses is instructed by God to write the events surrounding Rephidim and the attack of the Amalekites. How was this done and what script was used? The fact that the alphabet had been introduced for the first time in Sinai Peninsula around 1600-1550 BC gave Moses access to the latest development in writing. The proto-Sinaitic alphabet was a breakthrough in written communication that could be equivalent to the invention of the printing press or the internet. Moses could, in fact, have written the first five books of the Bible during this time. Because of this unique language innovation, the timing for God to put His covenant in writing could not have been better. Moses is invited to come up to the mountain of God to represent His people. God’s glory today rests in His sanctuary as Jesus intercedes for us. We are invited to bring our petitions to Him so that Jesus, our divine intercessor, may receive for us that which God has promised. Michael Hasel
