Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Joseph's response to Ms. Potiphar seems to be the apex of a theology of sexuality in the Pentateuch, and perhaps all of scripture. We read in vs 8 that Ms. Potiphar propositioned him "day after day" (vs 10), perhaps one of the first recorded cases of sexual harassment in history. In verse 9, Joseph reasons that Potiphar and he are equal in the household, except for ONE thing: Potiphar sleeps with Ms. Potiphar and Joseph does not. That one thing set Potiphar apart from Joseph. Joseph recognized this element as God's true ideal for sexual expression. Pleasure and babies are not the primary purpose for sexual expression. They are delightful bonuses. The purpose of sexual expression is to foster and maintain a sense of uniqueness between husband and wife. To yield to Ms. Potiphar's advances would not only violate her husband's trust in Joseph (and in her !) but would subvert the God-ordained uniqueness between husband and wife. Joseph thus proves morally superior to Judah when faced with the same temptation to sexual indulgence outside of marriage." ❤️ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/39 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by José Luis Jiménez:
"Education is an important purpose of the church, and one of its means to fulfill the mission of Jesus. Education of part of how the plan of redemption will reach its culmination. Christian education will have a well-defined purpose and is achieved by controlling learning situations to achieve that purpose. For its part, the church needs to understand God's plan and teach viable strategies to fulfill that plan. The church needs education to share God's eternal plan of redemption. To achieve the goal of redemption, the church and Christian educators must collaborate and integrate. Education is, then, an activity of the redeemed church that is tasked with sharing the redemption theme. Thus, the church is seen as a center of education. The knowledge that is sought, and that is shared, must be useful, diverse and practical, but above all it must collaborate with God's plan. Missionary knowledge must be sought and practiced. This knowledge will include mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual development centered in the theme of redemption. Of course, every believer is a receiver and disseminator of the knowledge of God's Plan. Instructed, encouraged, organized to serve, the church goes out to fulfill its mission. Where there is need, adapt educational curriculum. Consider areas in urgent need of improvement, such as purchasing wholesome food and cooking for health. Every new believer must receive transformational education that will equip them to be new channels of furthering transformative education. This is the task of the church of the end times." ATTS PRESENTS: How Headship Theology Distorts the Gospel
20 February 2022 | “Headship theology belongs to an old dispensation in which man plays God and ironically erodes human worth and dignity; for to diminish one half of humanity is to also diminish the other half. We have seen the violence that has been perpetuated by this headship theology of male entitlement to female […] Source: https://atoday.org/atts-presents-how-headship-theology-distorts-the-gospel/

Monday: Diverse Kinds of Sacrifices
Jesus’ death provided forgiveness, or remission, for our sins. The remission of our sins, however, involves much more than the cancellation of the penalty for our transgression of the covenant. It involves other elements as important. That is why the Israelite sacrificial system had five different kinds of sacrifices. Each was necessary to express the richness of the meaning of the cross of Christ.
Read Ephesians 3:14-19. What was the prayer request of Paul in behalf of believers?
The holocaust offering (or burnt offering) required that the whole animal be consumed on the altar (Leviticus 1:1-17). It represented Jesus, whose life was consumed for us. Expiation required Jesus’ total commitment to us. Even though He was equal with God, Jesus “emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant” (Philippians 2:5-8, ESV).
The grain offering was a gift of gratitude for God’s provision of sustenance for His people (Leviticus 2:1-16). It also represents Jesus, “the bread of life” (John 6:35, John 6:48), through whom we have eternal life.
The peace or fellowship offering implied a communal meal with friends and family to celebrate the well-being provided by God (Leviticus 3:1-17). It represented Christ, whose sacrifice provided peace for us (Isaiah 53:5, Romans 5:1, Ephesians 2:14). It also emphasizes that we need to participate in Jesus’ sacrifice by eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood (John 6:51-56).
The sin or purification offering provided expiation for sins (Leviticus 4:1-5:13). This sacrifice emphasized the role of the blood of the animal — which represented its life — to provide redemption from sins (Leviticus 17:11) and pointed forward to the blood of Jesus who redeems us from our sins (Matthew 26:28, Romans 3:25, Hebrews 9:14).
The guilt or reparation offering (Leviticus 5:14-6:7) provided forgiveness in cases where reparation or restitution was possible. It tells us that God’s forgiveness does not free us from the responsibility to provide reparation or restitution, where possible, to those whom we have wronged.
The sanctuary sacrifices teach us that the experience of salvation is more than just accepting Jesus as our Substitute. We also need to “feed” on Him, share His benefits with others, and provide reparation to those whom we have wronged.

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"This chapter is on the family history of Judah, a tribe that gave rise to Jesus. And that is why we have so much of the family history! The Messiah did not come from a lineage of holy or honored people. Rather, Judah and his sons acted in ways that displeased God. The human ancestors of Jesus were sinners. Judah even chose a heathen wife contrary to God’s will. (Gen 38:1,2). And this lady may have been the leading bad influence on his children. Judah looks evil in this chapter, deceiving Tamar and being deceived by her posing as a harlot. If he had chosen an obedient life, how much simpler it would have been with blessings instead of curses. Judah eventually confessed that Tamar "hath been more righteous than I” (Gen. 38:26). Sometimes we tend to judge people quickly without realizing that we are perhaps just as sinful or even more so than they. The Bible does not hide the fact that Jesus came from a human lineage so dirty as this. But despite his inherited weaknesses, He trusted in His Father, and never once sinned.
Jesus is our perfect example. Judah, leaning on himself, most assuredly is not." ❤️ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/38 Our accounts in other social networks:
