ADRA Philippines extends help for families affected by Volcano Eruption | Adventist News

August 10, 2021 By admin

This week on ANN. In the Philippines, the Taal Volcano Network has recorded more than 800 volcanic earthquakes, including volcanic tremor events, low-frequency volcanic earthquakes, and low-level background tremors. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has communicated with the Adventist Community Services director of the South Central Luzon Conference. Assessment tools have been shared to allow for immediate need assessments for the alert levels of the volcano. In Cavite, Philippines, ADRA Philippines’ Emergency Response Team has conducted an initial assessment in the municipalities of Agoncillo and Laurel. They are also planning to implement an initial response to help protect the affected families from the adverse effects of the daily high levels of sulfur dioxide emissions and prevent COVID-19 transmission through the provision of N95 masks. The North American Division Adventist Media Ministries Board voted to accept Debleaire Snell for the position of Speaker/Director of Breath of Life Ministries. Snell is set to replace Carlton P. Byrd, who accepted a call to serve as president of the Southwest Region Conference. Since 2010, Snell has served as senior pastor of three campuses of the First Church Seventh-day Adventist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. In Brazil, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has collected 5,000 items of clothing and shoes in Maringá, Paraná. The action was carried out in partnership with Rede Massa, an organization that manages radio and TV stations, and helped publicize the campaign and collect donations. Families from the community visited the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Vila Sete, where they could choose the items they wanted to take home. With ongoing COVID-19 restrictions across Greater Sydney, Australia, “Women of Hope,” comprised of more than 80 women from six Samoan women’s groups, joined forces to prepare 305 care packs delivered to local charities and distributed to people in need. Led by Sesepasara Tangatauli, Women of Hope president and member of the Punchbowl Samoan Church, the packs were filled with essential items, including hand sanitizers, personal hygiene packages, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. The packages were then distributed to Street Buffet Sydney, Helping Hearts Sydney, and Helping Hands Canley Vale. Encouraging Bible verses were included in the packs, sharing the love of God with recipients and highlighting the reason for the outreach. After facing rough tides, mosquitoes, and extreme heat, Hearly Mayr and his 13-year-old son, Andreas, finally reached the last stop of their 200-mile kayaking journey down the Chesapeake Bay. The duo started their adventure at Elk River in Elkton, Maryland, USA. ADRA surpassed its fundraising goal on July 31, 2021, with a total of 9.9 million dollars with the help of the Mayrs’ Bay 200 Challenge supporters and ADRA’s pandemic hunger relief campaign. Proceeds will help families worldwide access food and other essentials which have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sabbath [How Should You See It As A Seventh-day Adventist Christian?]

August 9, 2021 By admin

The Sabbath is a time to reconnect with God and each other. The Lord has thought so highly of us, He cares so deeply, that he created a special day to spend time with us. Today, it seems we have lost the beauty of the Sabbath. We have forgotten how to connect to our Savior. This week, Frank Hasel and Morgan Kochenhower talk about the beauty of the Sabbath and how we can reclaim and honor it. —

The Implicit Theology of Sacrificial Service

August 9, 2021 By admin

By Jim Wibberding  |  8 August 2021  | Curly dark locks danced beside her round face and bright eyes. “Daddy! I saw another jackrabbit!” Alonzo Beauchamp felt the lump of cash in his pocket and smiled at his four-year-old girl. For Alice, the train ride from Kinsley, Kansas, to their new home out west was […] Source: https://atoday.org/the-implicit-theology-of-sacrificial-service/

7: Rest, Relationships, and Healing – Teaching Plan

August 9, 2021 By admin

Key Thought: Joseph’s life illustrates the power of forgiveness. Forgiveness releases us from the poison of bitterness and resentment.
August 14, 2021

1. Have a volunteer read Genesis 42:21-24.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. What was Joseph trying to do in the first meeting with his brothers? What did he hear?
  3. Personal Application: What family difficulty can you work to facilitate reconciliation and bring resolve to? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Joseph could have held a great grudge against his brothers. He could have easily gotten even. Why did he choose not to get revenge, or at least give them a hard time?” How would you respond to your friend?

2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 18:31-35.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What does forgiving others do for us?
  3. Personal Application: How are we supposed to respond to those who hurt us? How are we doing in that regard? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “If we forgive someone, does that mean there won’t be consequences? Does it mean they are allowed to continue abusive and destructive patterns? If forgiveness a blank check for them?” How would you respond to your friend?

3. Have a volunteer read Genesis 50:15-21..

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
  2. What were Joseph’s brothers worried about?
  3. Personal Application: What happens when forgiveness doesn’t turn out so well? How do we deal with less than happy endings? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “I’ll forgive someone when they confess to me and say they are sorry and ask for my forgiveness. If they can’t admit they were wrong and tell me they are sorry, I’m not going to forgive them.“ How would you respond to your relative?

4. Have a volunteer read Luke 23:34; 6:28; Matt 5:44..

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
  2. Is there any importance to the timing of forgiveness?
  3. Personal Application: Is there anyone you need to forgive, not only for their sake but also for your own?” Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.

(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared.”Ministry of Healing, p. 148).

Amen!(0)

7: Rest, Relationships and Healing – Singing with Inspiration

August 9, 2021 By admin

Rest. The word used most frequently in our Sabbath School Lesson pamphlet this quarter. “Thou shalt rest, Thou shalt rest!” These are words repeated each verse of
Hymn 387 – Come, O Sabbath Day, our theme hymn for this quarter.

We could add to the theme
Hymn 529 – Under His Wings. Each week of study this quarter, gives more and more of showing God’s deepest care for us, His children. As God’s children we find out about the Biblical family growing pains, and this still happens today. Yet, we are still “under His wings”.

The Memory Text tells us that Joseph knew God sent him –
Hymn 578 – So Send I You, with the Sabbath afternoon reading amazing us at forgiveness –
Hymn 299 – Forgive Our Sins As We Forgive. The words “forgive” and “forgiveness” then pour into the rest of the weeks lesson. The story does not stop here with Sunday revealing
Jesus Paid It all – Hymn 184. It is because of Jesus paying the price for our sins, we are pardoned:
Hymn 294 – Power In the Blood and
Hymn 177 – Jesus Your Blood and Righteousness.

Finally, it is prayer that will give us the power to forgive:
Hymn 488 – At First I Prayed for Light. We can then take a further step forward and tell others
For You I Am Praying – Hymn 284.

Blessings for a wonderful week ahead.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing, but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Amen!(0)
