ADRA steps up emergency operations as COVID-19 rages in India; and other world news

May 7, 2021 By admin

ANN brings you updated reports from the Adventist community: The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is expanding emergency operations in India to save thousands of lives in communities affected by COVID-19. The country struggles under an unprecedented second outbreak of COVID-19, with more than 40,000 new cases daily. Over 222,000 people have died since the beginning of this year. ADRA is partnering with Adventist hospitals, Adventist churches, and other trusted partners to establish an on-site oxygen generator plant. The life-saving gas system will provide COVID-19 patients with a secure and constant source of oxygen. Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin-Zehlendorf, a facility of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has again been named one of the best hospitals in Germany this year. In 2020, the hospital was honored in the study "Germany's best hospitals," commissioned by the F.A.Z. Institute and ranked among the best in Germany, in hospitals' category with 150 to 300 beds. The American magazine, Newsweek, and the renowned German online portal for statistics, "Statista," have jointly determined the best hospitals worldwide for the third time. The study was conducted in 25 countries around the world. The Seventh-day Adventist Church for the central-north region of Espírito Santo in Brazil has broadcast a new program to test knowledge of the Adventist Church's Sabbath School Lesson. Bom de Lição, or A Good Lesson, debuted on the official networks of Associação Espírito Santense on Friday, April 30. Inspired by the Bom de Bíblia program, Bom de Lição will reward the winner with a trip to Novo Tempo, the Adventist Church's official broadcast network in Brazil. Every pathfinder club from across the South New Zealand Conference was represented at a single event, with over 180 Pathfinders joining together for a Pathfinder Rally camping weekend. The theme for the weekend was "Find Your Path," with guest speakers Lance Boulton, who serves as a youth director for South New Zealand, and Mervin Brown, who serves as youth director for the Adventist Church Fiji. Twenty-one adventurers from the Fijian church also joined the Pathfinders bringing the total number of people marching to more than 200. You can stay up to date with all these current events. Godly Sorrow Worketh Repentance

May 7, 2021 By admin

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10.

God reveals to us our guilt that we may flee to Christ, and through Him be set free from the bondage of sin, and rejoice in the liberty of the sons of God. In true contrition we may come to the foot of the cross, and there leave our burdens…. The trials of life are God’s workmen, to remove the impurities and roughness from our character. Their hewing, squaring, and chiseling, their burnishing and polishing, is a painful process; it is hard to be pressed down to the grinding wheel. But the stone is brought forth prepared to fill its place in the heavenly temple. Upon no useless material does the Master bestow such careful, thorough work. Only His precious stones are polished after the similitude of a palace.

The Lord will work for all who put their trust in Him. Precious victories will be gained by the faithful. Precious lessons will be learned. Precious experiences will be realized.—Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, 10, 11.

Christ is the sympathetic, compassionate Redeemer. In His sustaining power men and women become strong to resist evil. As the convicted sinner looks at sin, it becomes to him exceeding sinful. He wonders that he did not come to Christ before. He sees that his faults must be overcome, and that his appetites and passions must be subjected to God’s will, that he must be a partaker of the divine nature, having overcome the corruption that is in the world through lust. Having repented of his transgression of God’s law, he strives earnestly to overcome sin. He seeks to reveal the power of Christ’s grace, and he is brought into personal touch with the Saviour.—Testimonies for the Church 9:151.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
We have been saving for vacation for months, but now that Ron has started a new job and this is his busy season, I’m the only one who is going with Esther and her children out to see Ronnie Jay and Wanangwa. I am looking forward to this trip as I will be seventy-six next month and I don’t know how many more long trips I’ll be able to take. It seems that each trip is a little harder on me. Also, I have so many things I need to do before I can go that it is overwhelming me. June is almost here when I will be leaving. It is coming so fast!
Whether we realize it or not, there is a soon-coming event that all the world is coming fast as well. This event will bring much more joy to those who are ready than vacationing. It will be an event beyond our fondest expectations. Paul speaks of this grand and glorious time, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ hall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thes 4:16,17 “Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1Cor 15:51-55
Yes, Jesus is coming very soon! His coming is near, “even at the doors.” Matt 24:33 All the prophecies foretelling that great event are rapidly fulfilling! Does this great event occupy our thoughts? Does it control our actions? Do we anticipate our Dear Saviour’s coming with more joy than I am having thinking about vacationing with our children? Do we love to speak of the time when all who are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Lifegiver and shall come forth to glorious immortality? (John 5:28, 29) Think of it! We will see our loved ones again! We will again fellowship with those snatched from us by death. When Jesus comes, mothers will receive their little ones who were wrenched from their grasp by the enemy. When Jesus comes, our sorrows will vanish, our joys will be “new every morning” because He is full of compassion and love for us. Do we share this good news with those around us, that they, too, may be ready to meet the Lord?
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor 15:58 May we give diligence to make our calling and election sure, that we may be ready for that great event. (2 Peter 1:10) May we so live that we can with joy exclaim, “the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king.” Isa 33:22 May we invite this same loving, compassionate Friend to dwell on the throne of our hearts that someday soon we may look up and say, “Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Isa 5:9
