Thinking ‘Adventistly’ about politics
I first came across the unusual but useful adverb “Christianly” in an article published last year about the role of faith in politics. In an interview, Michael Wear, a former director of President Obama’s White House faith-based initiative, said Christians have a special responsibility to speak up about issues of public policy.
“That doesn’t mean that we need pastors speaking on Sunday morning about what they think the marginal tax rate should be,” he said. “What it does mean is that we should…

Love thy neighbor: ADRA provides essentials to 1000 kiwi families
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) New Zealand is working with a network of Seventh-day Adventist churches throughout the country to provide essentials to over 1000 Kiwi families in need.
During the level 4 lockdown in New Zealand, many non-essential workers lost either all or a percentage of their income. Many families have struggled throughout this time, but it has been especially difficult for families already living in poverty.
In response, ADRA NZ launched the “Love Thy…

Members hold contest to motivate the making of children’s masks
Members of Seventh-day Adventist churches in the Santa Efigênia district in Curitiba, Brazil, were surprised at the end of April with a unique contest. Each of them could submit a child-sized homemade mask to be given to a young member of the community. Each design would be judged as a creative art piece, and winners would be chosen at the church level to compete with others at the district level.
The idea came up in a meeting with the district youth board. In discussion about the next youth…

Coping with cancer during COVID-19
49-year-old Barbara Rader finally found hope that her terminal Stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis may not be the final chapter of her life. And then COVID-19 happened.
When she first received her cancer diagnosis in 2019, she was afraid she wouldn’t be around for special moments, like seeing her nephews and god-daughter grow up. When her diagnosis improved in the beginning of 2020, she was hopeful her life would be extended. Then she was hit with another fear: contracting COVID-19 as an…

ANNLive: How to Grieve What We’ve Lost to Coronavirus in a Healthy Way
Many of us are sad. We watch the news and see what’s going on, but it’s not what’s getting to the core of what is giving us anxiety. We can’t see our friends, family, or colleagues. We’re missing birthdays, holidays, and babies being born. And, when we look ahead, we see things will never be the same again. Experts and scientists keep saying that even when we’re able to go back to work or be with our friends, things are still going to be different. Handshakes, hugs— all of that is over. Social distancing is something we’re going to have to do. I’ve heard even mental health experts say many of us will come out of this with PTSD—because we’re living day-to-day and not processing our feelings and losses. Yet—we are grateful for our blessings… we may have a job, we are staying healthy, our families are well, we have homes, etc. How do we hold those blessings and gratitude and still able to feel a sense of sadness and loss? How do we grieve what we’ve lost in a healthy way? Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e87lrK1clIU
Pastor launches podcast channel on relationship to help families in pandemic
With the social distance caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, families now spend more time together at home. As coexistence increases, conflicts can arise. That’s what happened in Xi’an, in central China, where the city registered a record number of divorce requests right after the lockdown attributed to the illness.
To help families with their issues, both now and after the pandemic, the Family of Peace Portuguese-language podcast channel was launched on Spotify. Pastor Geraldo Magela, who has…
