SATIRE: Heaven’s List of Redeemed Under GC Scrutiny

The General Conference (GC)has submitted a formal reminder to heaven that GCADCOM needs to review the list of anyone who will be admitted through the Pearly Gates. The reminder, based on a new GC policy of “heavenly audits and visa applications,” says that unless candidates for Heaven live up to every one of the edicts […] Source: https://atoday.org/satire-heavens-list-of-redeemed-under-gc-scrutiny/
Lesson 5 Excuses to Avoid Mission – 5.2 Our Excuses: False Views

Here are important aspects of Jonah’s story and how they relate to false perspectives regarding God and mission work. Here are some thoughts on the key points:
-
Influences of the contemporary worldview: The commentary points out that Jonah was likely influenced by the traditional beliefs of his time, which viewed the seas as the realm of demons. This led to a misunderstanding of the nature of God and His sovereignty. It is important to recognize how cultural and religious backgrounds can influence our perception of God.
-
Realization of God’s sovereignty: Jonah learned in his own way that God rules sovereignly over all aspects of creation, including the sea and animals. This realization changed his worldview and led him to confess his guilt and acknowledge God’s providence. It reminds us that God’s sovereignty is not limited to a specific region or culture.
-
Misconceptions about mission and salvation: The commentary addresses significant misconceptions that people often have regarding missionary work and salvation. This includes the idea that success depends on us and that we can save people. It is crucial to understand that our role in mission is to bear witness, share God’s love, and sow seeds of truth. However, conversion and salvation are in God’s hands.
-
Collaborating with God: Lastly, it emphasizes that we are not in the role of the “savior” but rather that we collaborate with God in His work of salvation. We should fulfill our responsibility but also recognize that people’s hearts are ultimately touched and changed by God. Our task is to be tools in God’s hands and convey God’s love and message through our lives and testimony.
Jonah’s story provides valuable lessons about how false perspectives about God and mission can influence our decisions. We should strive to gain a deeper understanding of God’s sovereignty and humbly collaborate with Him in His work on Earth.

5: Excuses t0 Avoid Mission – Singing with Inspiration
“God’s Mission – My Mission” consistently points us to our Gracious God and how He wishes us to portray what He has done for us. In response we will reach out to others:
Hymn 573 – I’ll Go Where You Want Me To Go, Dear Lord, hence our theme hymn. This is in response to
So Send I You – Hymn 573.

Today we hear
So Send I You – Hymn 578 as much as Abraham and Jonah heard so long ago. May we make no excuses.
Unfortunately, Jonah had his fears, but we are able to
Give To The Winds Your Fears – Hymn 519 and ask God for
Peace, Perfect Peace – Hymn 463 and be given
Wonderful Peace – Hymn 466 rather than running away like Jonah did.
In the belly of the fish, Jonah “didn’t miss God’s message of love”, and so we will not miss God’s love:
O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go – Hymn 76,
Hymn 77 O Love Of God Most Full and
Hymn 79 – O Love of God, How Strong and True! to name just a few beautiful hymns.
We are given great courage on Thursday:
Hymn 573 – I’ll Go Where You Want Me To Go so we can
Give Of Your Best To The Master – Hymn 572 and
Hymn 623 – I Will Follow Thee. “We are to answer that call by submitting to His leadership, listening to hear His voice, and then choosing to obey whatever He tells us”:
Hymn 590 – Trust And Obey His calling.
Friday encourages us to be ever faithful:
Hymn 602 – O Brother, Be Faithful.
So, dear people, be encouraged to go forward so that we and all our friends and neighbors will be rejoicing
When We All Get To Heaven – Hymn 633.
To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/
Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org/Search and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
