The Seventh-day Adventist Church Produced a Document in Response to COVID-19; and other news
This week on ANN. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has produced a new document entitled “ Reaffirming the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s response to COVID-19.” The document has been produced by the General Conference Administration, Biblical Research Institute, General Conference Health Ministries, Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department, General Conference Office of General Counsel, and Loma Linda University Health. The document reaffirms the church’s commitment to the health message and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to increase longevity and quality of life. The Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) have stepped in to help after a recent fire blazed across one of the largest marketplaces in El Salvador. The San Miguelito market fire destroyed hundreds of family-owned businesses as hundreds of vendors and customers ran for their lives. Flames destroyed the entire marketplace, but no casualties were reported. The tiny image of the Baghdad Seventh-day Adventist Church on an Iraqi postage stamp is in itself remarkable even to a casual observer. The image, an unexpected gesture of the current Iraqi government, is to honor the presence of Christian churches in the country and promote diversity. The set of eight stamps, which came out in 2020 and were recently presented to leaders of the Middle East and North Africa Union Mission in Beirut, Lebanon, includes the Baghdad Seventh-day Adventist Church as one of the most beautiful churches in the city. President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, used the Bible and a quote from Ellen White during his speech on Saturday, October 16, 2021, in Kumasi, Ghana. The speech came after the state leader attended the 100-year celebration of the Ashtown Seventh-day Adventist Church. A crowd of more than 5,000 gathered at the Wesley College of Education in Kumasi gave the Ghanaian head of state several rounds of applause during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Ashanti New Town Church, or Ashtown. At the outset, Akufo-Addo praised the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its contribution to the nation’s development. The Women’s Ministries Department of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church will hold a global, virtual conference on October 29 and 30. The conference will be set around the Adventist Church’s strategic plan for the quinquennium: “Reach the World: I Will Go.” The “I Will Go Virtual World Conference” is free, and it will stream live on the Women’s Ministries Department Facebook page and YouTube channel. It will also stream on the official Facebook and YouTube channels of the Adventist Church. For the latest news and current events within the Adventist community, visit Adventist News Network. Health [How To Reach the Cities Through This Ministry] – Pastor Ted Wilson
In this episode, Pastor Ted Wilson talks about reaching more people in cities through health ministry. As Seventh-day Adventists, we believe in a better city and life. It doesn't only pertain to that "better city" in heaven – the New Jerusalem and eternal life – but it also concerns having a more abundant life. For this, the Ministry of Healing, page 143 counsels us: "Christ's method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, 'Follow Me.'" To illustrate this, Pastor Wilson introduces Dr. Manuel Alva, a physician in the Adventist Community Services Center of Influence in Chicago, Illinois, reaching urban people through health ministry. As one who has experienced high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other health problems, he knows how it feels to be sick. By applying the eight easy principles of health, he has restored his health. And he has become a different person with God's intervention. Inspired by this experience, he conducts health seminars and cooking demonstrations in his clinic. There are also spiritual lectures about humility, forgiveness, overcoming anxiety, and others. With this, Dr. Alva wants to plant a seed in every person who visits his clinic. Through that seed, he envisions that the entire city will germinate and bear fruit for God's glory through their conversion stories. May this story be a blessing that will inspire you to find ways of reaching more people for Jesus wherever you are. 00:00 Greetings
