Though the Messiah’s entrance into the world, was not well-received or acknowledged by most, it was no surprise to the universe. Jesus’ birth and mission had been foretold and prophesied long before His arrival. Christ came at the appointed time. He fulfilled hundreds of prophecies including the ones found in Isaiah 53, “He was despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (verses 3-5). This week Pastor Ted Wilson discusses chapter five of The Great Controversy, entitled “John Wycliffe,” about a man of profound influence who gave thousands direct access to God’s Word through The Wycliffe Bible. It was the first English translation of the Bible ever made and was not well received by Rome. Though he wasn’t martyred, he was declared a heretic and excommunicated by Rome. Forty years after his death, Wycliffe was dug up, his body burned, and his ashes scattered in the river Swift. All this because he dared to speak the truth and provide the Word of God to people in their native tongue.
