Increasing COVID-19 Cases With Severe Threats Challenge Filipinos; and other world news
This week on ANN The Philippine Department of Health says a total of 1.6 million cases have been confirmed in the country, and more than 28 thousand deaths have been recorded since August 4. In its latest report, the World Health Organization shared that the Philippines ranks second among the countries with the highest cases and deaths within Southeast Asia. The number of Filipinos seeking psychological first aid has additionally increased during the pandemic. Local authorities shared that the number of people seeking consultation through their crisis hotline has tripled due to COVID-19. In Laos, Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is implementing Phase II of the nutrition and livelihood project in the country. The project works in Xiangkhouang Province, where acute malnutrition is as high as 10%, chronic malnutrition is 33%, and underweight children under five years are 12%. ADRA Laos targets villages. Through the community rehabilitation program, children under five years old are assessed. Those found stunted or underweight are enrolled in a 12-day feeding session. The latest film in the Seeking Understanding series has been released in the lead-up to Creation Sabbath 2021. This documentary revolves around Dr. Arthur Chadwick and a remote corner of Wyoming where an amazing treasure trove of dinosaur bones lay hidden. With a team of other scientists from Southwestern Adventist University, along with scientists from other Adventist schools, Chadwick has been able to unravel the mystery of how all of those bones got to this isolated area in the United States. In the film, not only is some fascinating science revealed, but we also learn the remarkable story of how Chadwick became a paleontologist. For years, Maranatha International’s Ultimate Workout has taken young people all over the world to work on mission projects. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maranatha Volunteers have had to adjust and work under different circumstances. After 40 years, an Adventist church in South Africa finally formed a pathfinder club on World Pathfinder Day.
