Here are updates from the Adventist community: Seventh-day Adventist Church ExCom Votes to Delay GC Session A Second Time Given the rising challenges from the COVID-19 crisis, the global Seventh-day Adventist Church Executive Committee members have voted to postpone the denomination's quinquennial session in a virtual meeting last January 12. This recommendation came from a consensus approach from world division officers, health professionals, Adventist Risk Management, the Office of General Counsel, and other Adventist Church leaders. The motion passed with a vote of 185-9. NAD Leadership Reacts to the Alarming U.S. Capitol Events In response to the violent protest in Washington D.C. recently, the North American Division leadership issued a hope-filled and comforting statement for deeply concerned people. The Church leadership affirms the people's right to protest respectfully. But it strongly condemns reprehensible actions that show a clear disrespect for the safety of others, the democracy institution, and the government transition's diplomatic and orderly process. NAD leadership also calls for prayerful reflection on Philippians 4:7 and united prayer for our communities and leaders, and that God's Spirit will prevail. Revival for a Mission to Interview IAD President and His Daughter About Kidnap Ordeal Tune in for another special episode of Revival for a Mission with Pastor Ted Wilson and Pastor Sam Neves. ADRA Reaches Out to Earthquake-stricken Croatia A strong earthquake blasted central Croatia last December 28-29, leaving seven casualties, 26 injured, and more than 60,000 affected people. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency immediately dispatched relief services after assessing the needs. Besides essential commodities, ADRA prepares to expand a call center to help the affected population receive government assistance. How can Adventists promote religious freedom around the world? There are millions of people who are suffering around the world, often from causes that receive very little or no attention in the news. One such cause is religious persecution. Millions of people around the world are suffering for their faith. This suffering is experienced at various levels in different places, ranging from discrimination and harassment, to imprisonment, torture, and even death. As Seventh-day Adventists, we believe in the dignity of all human beings, and in their God-given right to express their faith according to each individual’s conscience, and we stand in solidarity with our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. Adventists have been involved in religious liberty advocacy since the early days of this movement and have established the world’s oldest religious freedom organization—The International Religious Liberty Association. We also have representatives at the highest level of government, seeking to encourage leaders to embrace a world view that promotes religious liberty for all. Why do we do this? And what unique contribution can we make as Seventh-day Adventists to help foster tolerance and religious freedom around the world? Our view of God as the Creator gives us very important insights into the dignity of all human beings and provides a basis for religious liberty. When we view other human beings through a biblical perspective—as human beings created by God Himself, it helps us to see them with dignity, as multi-dimensional individuals created in the image of God. Christ Himself, while on Earth, related to all human beings in this way—from the lowest to the highest—all were treated with respect. And it is this viewpoint, this understanding, that as a Church we seek to promote throughout the world, encouraging religious liberty, religious freedom for all to worship according to their conscience. Every year on the third Sabbath in January, Seventh-day Adventists around the world take time to remember the God-given gift of religious freedom. On Religious Liberty Sabbath we take time as a world church to pray for the many millions of men, women, and children who continue to suffer harassment, discrimination, imprisonment or physical harm because they choose faithfulness to God, no matter what. Make religious liberty a special part of your program this Sabbath. Through our prayers, we can support our brothers and sisters around the world, and we can express our support for freedom for all people, no matter what their faith. Moses wasn’t your average Israelite. In fact, he grew up between two worlds: raised by his birth mother to be one day handed back to the daughter of pharaoh, he was able to see two sides of of two cultured joined together through slavery. His own people losing strength day by day, and the Egyptian empire grew minute by minute. Moses had dreams to serve his people and eventually God called him to revive those dreams and finally aid in saving God’s people. It required Moses to give up a lot, and we’re called to do so too if we want to see the dreams of serving God met in stellar brilliance. Putting God first means letting go of our own abilities. Three years ago, a study on the most searched terms on Google relating to the Bible showed that every 30 days, there are more than 250,000 Google searches around the world for Bible trivia, Bible games and Bible quiz. The study showed, of all the game genres, people are searching for Bible trivia more than any other kind. There is a great opportunity to talk about the Greatest Hero of all time in the language gamers would engage with and understand! The Seventh-day Adventist Church aims to use Heroes 2 The Bible Trivia Game to help every player to further understand the Bible and find freedom, healing and hope in Jesus. “The Bible is the foundation document of Western Civilization but young people today know more about the comics stories than the Bible stories, says Sam Neves, associate director of communication for the global Seventh-day Adventist Church. “Heroes is a project that speaks this new visual language through a trivia game that brings these ancient stories to life. What happened to these Bible heroes matters. We should all know what happened to them so we can find out what will happen to us.” For the last few years an international team has been working to create Heroes 2, an entirely new Bible trivia game. Players will start their journey with Adam and Eve, the first heroes. As the heroes ask questions about their life, players start accumulating experience points. The more “experience points” a player has, the more heroes are unlocked. Players start with Genesis and end up in Revelation with John, the Son of Thunder. Each game consists of 12 questions and the score is based on how quickly a player can answer them. At first, the questions are easy but as the game progresses the questions get harder. With Heroes 2 players will be able to challenge family and friends by sharing a simple link. They will have to play and answer the same exact 12 questions to try to get a better score. Heroes 2 will be available in 4 languages, English, Portuguese, Spanish and French, with the expectation of new languages being added shortly after the release. Along with the Heroes 2 game in 2021, Hope Channel will also be providing Bible studies. “Every player will be inspired through the Heroes Bible Studies entitled “The Big Questions,” says Vyacheslav Demyan, vice-President of Hope Channel International. “They can visit hopebiblestudy.org where Bible heroes will answer “What happens when you die?”, “is God real?”, “if God is good, why do we suffer?”… and many other tough questions.” “We are also planning a game show to be aired on Hope Channel which encourages teams from any Christian church or school to test their Bible knowledge through the game.” Church leaders and the game creators hope Heroes 2: The Bible Trivia Game will help children, youth and adults become better acquainted with amazing stories of the Bible. “We want everyone to realize they are called to be heroes today, just like these characters from the past,” says Neves. “When all is said and done, we hope the game inspires every player to give their lives to Jesus, so one day they can meet Him face to face.” Some players are being invited to become beta testers and start their adventure sooner.
