Adventist Pastor in Burundi Is Released After Being ImprisonedFor His Faith; and other world news
The Seventh-day Adventist Church community brings you the following uplifting news: In Burundi, Pastor Lemack Barishinga was released on February 10 from more than a year of imprisonment. On October 24, 2019, he was arrested and jailed for his faith, mobilizing Adventists worldwide to pray for him and the whole church in Burundi. The East-Central Africa Division and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists praise God and thank both the government and all prayer warriors. In Ecuador, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) provided food assistance to more than 16,500 vulnerable families in COVID-19 affected provinces. ADRA distributed redeemable food stamps to pregnant and lactating women and families with children under age five. The World Food Program and USAID allied with ADRA and funded this important project. In the North American Division, a new resource from the Adventist Information Ministry offers "A Picture of God" which seeks to offer an opportunity for those longing for fellowship and Bible study during the pandemic. It has 16 free easy-to-navigate online lessons that build on each other to reveal God's character to those in search of Him. The options could be either "self-guided" or "collaborative" (with the ability to connect with an online or in-person spiritual mentor) lesson plan. Currently, there are more than 300 people enrolled; 31 were connected with a local church, and eight have accepted Jesus as their Savior. Learn more at A Picture of God. In Mexico, an Adventist family has committed to tutoring children who are unable to continue online schooling. Noticing a great need in their community, Lili Pimentel, a third-year student at Montemorelos University, and her family came up with a project to tutor school-aged children in their home. They even set apart a special room to teach the children. In New York City, the Adventist Community Services (ACS) has expanded their avenues of partnership, connecting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The continued food delivery positions ACS to reach communities during some of the region's most challenging times. In the Inter-America Division, more than 700 church leaders participated in the first-ever Adventist-Muslim Relations Training Symposium on a six-day virtual meeting from January 11 to February 1. The event sought to build bridges with Muslim friends by providing new knowledge, skills, and attitudes to the mission leaders. More intentional efforts are underway to connect with the nearly half a million Muslims in more than 20 countries and islands in the territory. Pastor Ted Wilson and Nancy Wilson: Raising Children and Building Strong Families
In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson is joined by Nancy Wilson to talk about the importance of leading children to Christ and how to build strong families. When God created a man and a woman in the Garden of Eden and united them in the first ever marriage ceremony, he blessed them and told the couple to “Be fruitful and multiply. . .” encouraging them to have children. In Psalm 127:3 we read from the New Living Translation— “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.” And what a privilege and important responsibility the Lord has given to parents to raise these little ones for Him! Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:3, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” As we consider the influence we have on our children and grandchildren, how important it is to be sure that we ourselves are converted, surrendered fully to God and to His will. When we are in tune with the Lord, praying and reading His inspired writings, He gives us just the instruction we need. One of the most effective ways in leading children to Christ is through family worship. This is a wonderful time when the family comes together to sing songs, to read God’s word together in an age-appropriate way, and to help the children realize that this is not just some ancient book that was written for people thousands of years ago—but rather, it is the living word of God, that contains promises just for them! A Christian home is a place where Jesus is the center. When there are problems, Jesus is the One we naturally go to, to find guidance and help in working through those problems. A mother’s and father’s main role is to train up their children to see Jesus as their personal Friend, to whom they can take all of their cares, who wants what is best for them and wants for them to be happy! In today’s world, there are so many challenges facing the family, and we need to be praying more than ever for God’s wisdom, guidance, strength, and courage. May He bless you, and your family, as you reach out in faith to Him! Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa6FhfpSb9Q
When You Feel Like an Outsider, Try This…
For Daniel, life was uprooted in his teen years when he was taken captive into Babylon. But despite the difficulties he and several other young men would face, Daniel would still purpose in his heart to put God first. What can we learn from his life? This short reflection on his journey will lead you to think about how your own situation can be used to give back to God and further His work in today’s age. #GodFirst
