Lesson 7 Mission to my Neighbor – 7.6 Summary

November 16, 2023 By admin

1.The Question of Questions
The fundamental questions regarding our origin, the meaning of life, and our destiny after death are existential. The episode in the Gospel of Luke where a legal expert asked Jesus about eternal life emphasizes the urgency of these questions. Jesus used the opportunity to touch the deeper thoughts of the heart and highlight the importance of eternal life. The emphasis on eternal life in the Bible displays the infinity and significance beyond our temporally limited existence.
2.Jesus’s Method and Response
Jesus emphasized Scripture as the source of truth and affirmed its importance. He directed attention to the Holy Scriptures to indicate that the answers are already there. The Bible is considered the inspired word of God and guides us in our faith journey.
3.To Inherit Eternal Life
The episode of the legal expert and Jesus’s reaction emphasizes the importance of acting according to faith. James 2:17–22 emphasizes that faith without deeds is meaningless. Love for God and for one’s neighbor must be manifested in concrete actions.
4.Loving Others as We Love Ourselves
Love for God and for one’s neighbor are the central commandments of the Christian faith. The practical exercise of neighborly love reveals true faith. Love is the foundation upon which our faith and actions rest.
5.The Good Samaritan Story Today
The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches neighborly love and compassion. It highlights the importance of unconditional help. Jesus defined the neighbor as anyone requiring our help. The challenges demand concrete action, like daily prayer for others and identifying needs to actively help.
Overall, the lesson emphasizes the importance of faith, love, and action. Scripture serves as a guide, and the profound essence of faith is demonstrated in concrete neighborly love and compassion. It’s a call to integrate the universal teaching of neighborly love into our daily actions to positively influence the world.

Does Job Fear God for Naught? | Obedience unto Death – An Exemplar in Christ (Obedience Unto Death)

November 15, 2023 By admin

Job’s life is a fascinating narrative of fidelity and steadfastness amid trials. The writings emphasize that in all he suffered, Job did not sin or act foolishly against God. Yet, it’s also made clear that this virtue did not make Job a flawless or sinless individual. As the Bible teaches, all humans are sinners, and our redemption comes solely through Christ.
In a way, Job is a foreshadowing of Jesus. He resisted Satan’s attacks and temptations, much like Jesus did in the wilderness. In the Gospel of Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus resisted Satan’s temptations and remained faithful, much like Job remained steadfast in his suffering. In both instances, Satan withdrew after facing resistance.
However, the parallel goes further. Jesus’ obedience unto death on the cross shows a deeper and broader loyalty and dedication. His obedience and dedication despite the greatest trials and the tremendous sacrifice of the cross are an unparalleled demonstration of fidelity and love for God and humanity.
The section in Philippians 2:5-8 clearly illustrates how Jesus subordinated His own will and was obedient unto death on the cross. His obedience offers us hope – the hope of redemption and salvation. It shows us that even amidst difficulties and suffering, obedience and dedication can lead us to forgiveness and eternal life.
Our response to this immeasurable love and obedience of Christ should be a dedication that permeates our lives. How can we do this? By accepting Christ’s sacrifice for our redemption and by following His example of love and obedience in our daily lives.
Prayer: Lord, we thank You for the unparalleled sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Let us learn from His dedication and obedience. Grant us the strength to remain faithful to You and fill us with the love and obedience revealed through Christ. May our lives mirror Christ’s love and obedience. Amen.
May Christ’s obedience unto death encourage us to lead a life of dedication and obedience, always reminding us of God’s love and grace. Amen.

Lesson 7 Mission to my Neighbor – 7.5 The Good Samaritan Story Today

November 15, 2023 By admin

The parable of the Good Samaritan, told by Jesus, serves as a timeless lesson about neighborly love and compassion. It highlights the importance of unconditionally helping others, regardless of ethnic backgrounds, social status, or religious beliefs.
The essence of the story lies in recognizing those in need and taking immediate action to help. In our society today, where injustice and need are still prevalent, the parable poses an urgent question: Have we done enough to help those in need in our vicinity?
It’s significant that we often emphasize religious or ethical beliefs but may not act sufficiently in practicality to aid those who need help. People of other beliefs or lifestyles might even show more compassion and assistance than we do. If our faith is authentic, it means not only speaking of love and kindness but actively approaching and aiding the needs of others.
Jesus did not define the neighbor by narrow confines of faith or origin but as anyone who requires our help. The question “Who is my neighbor?” is not limited to specific groups or communities but to every person in need of our help. It’s about acknowledging every individual as fellow humans who need our assistance, regardless of their origin, skin color, or beliefs.
The challenges stemming from this teaching are concrete and demand action. Daily prayer for someone different from us and identifying the needs of people around us to actively help them are initial steps toward an active neighborly love.
It’s time to integrate the universal teaching of neighborly love and compassion into our daily actions. Only then can we live the true essence of Jesus’s message and positively influence the world around us in a sustainable way.

Does Job Fear God for Naught? | Steadfastness Amidst Suffering and Loyal Service to God (Job’s Wife)

November 14, 2023 By admin

The Book of Job not only recounts Job’s personal tragedies but also sheds light on the suffering of his wife, who is often overlooked in her pain. After the terrible events that befell Job, we encounter Job’s wife in the second chapter. She is at the center of the pain and tragedy that also struck her and her family.
In Job 2:9, we encounter a term used both by God and Job’s wife – the concept of “integrity” or “perfection.” It’s noteworthy that Job’s wife, who, like Job, stood amid suffering and tragedy, questions in her pain what God praised Job for. Her pain and sorrow lead her to do what God said Job wouldn’t do. This reaction shows how people facing the same suffering can react differently and how easily, in our pain, we can inadvertently become stumbling blocks to others.
In contrast, Job confesses his unwavering trust and loyalty to God amid all these tragedies. His commitment to faith and service to God in good and bad times reveals the authenticity of his faith. It shows that, despite suffering and challenges, he held onto his faith.
This depiction also sheds light on Satan’s accusation. While Satan was successful in conquering many, ultimately, he had to acknowledge that despite all the suffering Job faced, he remained faithful to God. Satan’s temptations and challenges could not shake Job’s loyalty.
We can all learn from Job’s steadfastness. Being faithful to God in good and bad times requires a deep trust that transcends external circumstances. Similar to Job, we can learn that our faith isn’t dependent on external conditions but on an authentic relationship with God shaped by faith and trust.
Prayer: Lord, teach us to remain faithful to You in good and bad times. Help us not lose our faith and loyalty to You amidst challenges and suffering. Grant us the strength to hold onto Your love and loyalty in our most challenging moments. Amen.
May Job’s example inspire us to grow in our faith and loyalty to God, regardless of the circumstances we face. Amen.
