God and Human Suffering | Revelations of His Power and Goodness (God in Nature)

November 19, 2023 By admin

Today, we want to collectively turn our attention to the fascinating theme: “God in Nature.” This perspective on creation opens a deeper view of God’s existence and His workings in our world.
In Romans 1:18–20, the Apostle Paul speaks of God’s revelation through the created world. He emphasizes that the reality and existence of God are clearly revealed through the “made” world, leaving humanity “without excuse” for unbelief. Nature itself is a living testimony to the existence and nature of God. In the details of creation, we can recognize His power, wisdom, and goodness.
The irony Paul addresses is present in our modern times as well. Science has granted us deeper insights into the wonders of creation, and as life appears more complex, chance or probability becomes less plausible as the cause for this complexity. An iPhone, obviously designed, is recognized as a product of design. But humans, equally obviously designed, with internal and external design, are supposed to have randomly emerged? These thoughts can mislead many.
In Job 12:7–10, we see how Job views nature as a reflection of God’s reality. Even though nature, especially in its fallen state, does not reveal the entire character of God, it still shows His creative power and aspects of His goodness.
Which aspects of nature particularly show you the power and goodness of God? Perhaps the majestic mountains, the rushing waterfalls, or the delicate blossoms in spring. Each of us has our own experiences in nature that reflect God’s greatness and love.
In these moments of contemplation, we can draw strength and encouragement. Nature reminds us that the Creator of this world also holds our lives in His hands. May our hearts flourish in gratitude and admiration as we contemplate the wonders of nature, inspiring us to recognize the beauty and greatness of God in each day.
Let us pray together and thank God for His glorious creation.

Lesson 8.Mission to the Needy | 8.1 The Faith of Friends

November 18, 2023 By admin

The account of friends bringing their helpless companion to Jesus is truly inspiring. It shows us that true friendship involves not only words but also actions. Despite facing obstacles, these men took responsibility for caring for their friend. This story reminds us that sometimes it requires creative and unconventional approaches to help people and lead them to Christ.
The faith and determination of these men are remarkable. They didn’t let difficulties discourage them but found an innovative way to bring their friend to Jesus. This challenges us to be creative in our own service and not give up when traditional methods fall short.
The text also underscores the importance of recognizing the needs of people around us and helping them, whether they are friends, neighbors, or strangers. Ellen White encourages us not to be passive but to proactively reach out to the needs of the helpless, distressed, and needy.
The call to lead people to Jesus, portrayed as the great Physician bringing forgiveness and healing, is an encouraging reminder that we can all contribute to improving the lives of others. The question at the end of the text, asking who around us needs help and what we will do for them, prompts reflection and encourages taking concrete steps to assist the needy and lead them to Christ.
May this text inspire us to be proactive, demonstrate our faith through actions, and support those around us in need.

God and Human Suffering | A Glimpse into the Book of Job

November 18, 2023 By admin

Today, we want to collectively focus on the theme of human suffering and take a glimpse into the book of Job. In Matthew 6:34, it says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” These words of Jesus remind us that life is marked by challenges and difficulties.
The book of Job captivates with its uniqueness in the biblical context. Unlike other books in the Bible, Job stands without the usual framework of Israelite history. No reference to the promises to Abraham, no mention of the exodus from Egypt. Why this absence? Perhaps because Moses wrote the book of Job in Midian before the exodus from Egypt even took place.
However, there might be a deeper reason. The book of Job touches on a universal theme, the suffering of humanity. It knows no national boundaries, no temporal limitations. Job’s suffering is not confined to a people or an era. Jew or non-Jew, we all can identify with Job’s pain, for he represents suffering in a fallen world.
The book of Job shows us that suffering is a part of human existence. Job, a man of exceptional righteousness, was still visited by calamities. Disease, loss, and pain marked his life. And in this suffering, Job sought answers, an understanding of God’s actions.
The words of Jesus remind us not to worry too much about tomorrow. Each day has its own challenges, yet we trust that God will take care of what is His. In Job, we see that God’s ways often surpass our human imagination, yet they are full of love and grace.
Let us trust in God’s promises in times of suffering and trials. Job’s story teaches us that despite the pain, God’s plan is greater than what we can comprehend. May the realization that we are not alone in our suffering and the hope in God’s care carry us through life’s challenges.
In this trust, let us pray together and strengthen each other in love and comfort.

God’s Mission, My Mission – Lesson 8: Mission to the Needy | Sabbath School with Pastor Mark Finley

November 18, 2023 By admin

Series GOD’S MISSION, MY MISSION with Pastor Mark Finley  |
Lesson 8: Mission to the Needy |
Memory Text: 1: Matthew 25:40 – And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me’ . |
Content:
8.1 The Faith of Friends
The story of the friends who brought a needy person to Jesus shows us the importance of faith, commitment, and creativity in serving others. These men took responsibility for caring for their friend, and God calls us to do the same. We should not hesitate to bring those in need to Jesus, as He is the great physician ready to forgive and heal the suffering. Ellen White encourages us to actively address the needs of the helpless and be a part of the plan of salvation.
8.2 Christ’s Approach Alone
Christ’s approach to serving the needy presents us with a five-step process to serve others and gain their trust. First, we must put ourselves in their shoes to understand their needs. Compassion is the key without expecting anything in return. The third step involves practical actions to fulfill these needs. Through these steps, we build trust and, ultimately, lead people to Jesus to offer them eternal life. This method demonstrates true success in service.
8.3 Refugees and Immigrants
The topic of refugees and immigrants is of great importance in today’s world, with millions of people worldwide seeking refuge and assistance. The story of Jesus as a refugee in Egypt, as depicted in Matthew 2:13-14, serves as a reminder that even the Holy Family once fled danger and sought protection. It emphasizes the importance of supporting and advocating for immigrants and refugees, despite cultural and linguistic differences, as highlighted in Bible verses such as Deuteronomy 10:19, Psalm 146:9, Romans 12:13, and Leviticus 23:22. We should engage through prayer, information, and active assistance, even when it might pose political challenges.
8.4 Assisting the Injured
The world can often be hurtful, regardless of material wealth or poverty. Jesus’ mission to bring the gospel to those in need and heal broken hearts reminds us of our duty to pay attention to the needs of people around us and provide help. This should be done unconditionally, driven by selfless love and compassion, aiming to serve those in need rather than focusing solely on winning them for Jesus. Our service should be rooted in understanding and genuine assistance to support individuals in their diverse life situations.
8.5 Greater Love
The greatest love we can show is to lay down our lives for our friends, as mentioned in John 15:13. We should apply this principle in our service to others by actively approaching people and bringing them blessings, just as Jesus did. By striving to build friendships, whether with refugees, immigrants, or neighbors, we can both serve them and convey the message of God’s love. Our goal should be to be true friends to them and lead them to God as the ultimate helper.

Does Job Fear God for Naught? | A Comprehensive View of ‘Is Job so godly in vain?’

November 17, 2023 By admin

Job was a man of extraordinary faith and unwavering loyalty to God. Let us be inspired by his story and contemplate how we can remain steadfast in our own trials.
The Fear of God and the Trials of Life: The text from the Book of Job sheds a strong light on a topic that is often difficult to understand: Why do the godly sometimes endure suffering and trials? Job, a man of extraordinary faith and godliness, despite his sincere conduct, had to endure trials and suffering.
Life won’t always grant us smooth paths. Yet, amidst all these trials, Job stood firm in his faith. Even in his worst times, when everything seemed lost, he did not curse God. His attitude is an inspiration to us all. We should be ready to accept both the good and difficult times and remain steadfast in our faith.
The Essence of Our Service: Let us ask ourselves: Why do we serve God? Perhaps our motives are often shaped by selfishness and our own needs. Yet, the truth is that none of us is perfect. Let us trust that God is working on our hearts and shaping us in His love as we continue our service to Him.
The Great Battle’s War and Loyalty in Trials: Job not only resisted personal attacks, but his story points to a larger spiritual conflict that encompasses the entire universe. Our loyalty and trust in God should not be dependent on external circumstances. Even amidst pain and suffering, we can remain steadfast in our faith by relying on God’s goodness and faithfulness.
Praise Despite Trials and Steadfastness in Loyalty: Job’s reaction to tragedies shows that his dedication wasn’t dependent on external blessings but on a genuine, deep, and honest love and loyalty to God. His example encourages us to base our love and dedication to God on a genuine, deep, and sincere relationship with Him.
Steadfastness Amidst Suffering and Loyal Service to God: In Job 2:9, we encounter a term used both by God and Job’s wife – the concept of “integrity” or “perfection.” Job’s reaction highlights the significance of loyalty and service to God in good and bad times. We can learn from Job’s steadfastness in good and bad times.
Obedience unto Death – An Exemplar in Christ: Job’s life is a demonstration of faith, but his obedience did not make him sinless. Jesus, on the other hand, remained faithful even unto death. His obedience offers hope for redemption and salvation.
Let us follow the example of Job and ultimately Christ in our trials. May our loyalty to God be unshakable, and may our hearts be shaped by Christ’s love and obedience. Let us pray that, inspired by Job’s steadfastness, we can strengthen our faith and loyalty to God. Amen.
