One day many years ago, while missionaries in the Congo, we were on our way to the airport when we passed by the body of a woman lying on the street. Our driver explained she had been struck and killed by a car. Later that day, on our way back, we came upon her body again! It was still there, now covered in flies while people walked by. Many years have passed, but I never forgot the sight. If we could see this world as God sees it, the grief and suffering that sin has caused would stagger our mind. It is no wonder then that Jesus said there is such great joy in Heaven when a single soul is saved—because it makes Heaven’s sacrifice worthwhile! God wants us to share in that joy—to work with Him in the saving of souls for the Kingdom of Heaven. That’s what AWR is all about. Nothing goes unnoticed by God—not the forgotten woman on the street, nor the tiny sparrow; not a single tear shed, and not any sacrifice made for the souls for whom Jesus died. One of my favorite authors once said, “If you talk darkness, you will have plenty of darkness, but if you talk light, you will have an abundance of light.” When we look back on our life, do we see the hardships and disappointments, or do we recall the amazing mercies of God? Recently, my wife Kathy and I were remembering some of those mercies, and there were plenty—especially when you agree to a stint in the mission field! Through the years, those mercies have grown and expanded—until today we are seeing miracle after miracle! Something unprecedented is happening right now on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. In the next few days, more than 100 communist rebels and their families will come out from their hiding places in the jungle mountains to start a new life with Jesus. Adventist World Radio has been working with the Philippine government to negotiate their surrender. They will walk straight into an Adventist church where AWR will be waiting to welcome them, along with the Philippine military and the major news networks from across the country. It will be a historic event! These dear people will remain on the church grounds for a week while they receive counseling, training, and the tools necessary to begin a new life—including funds and an acre of land! The best part is that every night, AWR will hold evangelistic meetings and the military will attend along with these former rebels and their families. I can’t wait to see what God will do next! This is a Good News Episode! There’s so much bad news out there that sometimes we fail to see what God is doing around the world—and some of it is pretty amazing! We are seeing miracle after miracle in places never before reached with the gospel message. Let me share just a couple highlights: · The largest brothel in the world is an actual city in Bangladesh. God has opened a door to secretly distribute more than 2,000 Godpods with not only the gospel and health message, but much more!
