Perfect and Complete in Christ

March 2, 2026 By admin

One hot July afternoon at an Oklahoma Camp meeting, I visited a friend in her tent. Just outside sat my friend’s 13-year-old daughter with a friend she had just met. This was her friend’s first camp meeting. He had come with his grandfather, who just become a Christian. He did not know what to think about all the meetings and asked my friend’s daughter, “What do you think about Jesus? What is He really all about?” My ears perked up, as I was quite interested in how she would answer.

I will never forget what she said.

“Before my mom and I met Jesus, we argued and yelled at each other all the time, and I could not stand my home, but now that we met Jesus we don’t yell anymore, and I love my home now.”

Interesting. She introduced her new friend to Jesus as a literal friend Who had literally changed her life, and not as some pretend theory.

I heard a radio preacher once say, “In order to be able to call Jesus your Savior, He has to actually save you from something.” He was right. Many people speak of faith almost like it is pretending. Some use a very Biblical term, “perfect in Christ,” but then they add, “but it is only by faith.” And yes, it is only by faith, but by saying “only by faith,” they seem to make it sound like faith is only pretending. When we read in Hebrews 11:30 about the walls of Jericho falling by faith, we take that to mean that the walls of Jericho literally fell and did not just pretend to fall. So when we read in Colossians 1:28, “that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus,” should we not take that “perfect in Christ” to be literal also and not just pretense?

Read how Ellen White describes the term “perfect in Christ” In the Great Controversy, page 623.
… we should seek to become perfect in Christ. Not even by a thought could our Saviour be brought to yield to the power of temptation. Satan finds in human hearts some point where he can gain a foothold; some sinful desire is cherished, by means of which his temptations assert their power. But Christ declared of Himself: “The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me.” John 14:30. Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. He had kept His Father’s commandments, and there was no sin in Him that Satan could use to his advantage. This is the condition in which those must be found who shall stand in the time of trouble. It is in this life that we are to separate sin from us, through faith in the atoning blood of Christ.

If faith literally made the walls of Jericho fall, then we have to believe that faith will also make a literal and practical change in the way we live our lives.

On that hot summer afternoon so many years ago, my friend’s daughter gave an example of how her faith literally changed her life, showing that faith is not just make-believe but makes things practical and literal. I am totally powerless to tear down the strongholds Satan has set up in my life, but the same faith that made the walls of Jericho come crumbling down will also make those strongholds in my life come down as well.

Monday: Rooted and Growing in Christ

March 1, 2026 By admin

Daily Lesson for Monday 2nd of March 2026

The theme of Colossians is one of the clearest maxims for living the Christian life: “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” (Colossians 2:6, NKJV). We receive salvation by receiving a Person, not just a body of teachings. But receiving Jesus also includes accepting all His teachings, as given through the apostles and prophets of the Bible (see Ephesians 2:20).

More than anything else, accepting Christ means a death to self, a complete surrender of self to the living Christ.

The Living Word (Jesus) cannot be separated from the Written Word (the Bible). They are two sides of the same coin. In fact, only through Scripture can we know Jesus. We “walk” or live our lives “in Him,” meaning that we allow His Word and His Spirit to guide us in all our decisions and practices.

In Colossians 2:7, Paul employs a common biblical metaphor that likens Christians to plants. We become rooted in Christ by accepting Him as our Savior and ordering our life according to His Word. That is how we become “established in the faith.”

How do the following passages illuminate the plant metaphor as a symbol of believers? (See Isaiah 61:3, Matthew 3:10, Luke 8:11-15, 1 Corinthians 3:6.)

Paul clearly delineates the two alternatives open to believers. One is to remain a “planting of the Lord” (Isaiah 61:3) and continue being complete in Christ by holding on to Him and His teachings. The other could be likened to an artificial plant that may look real but is actually lifeless. By adopting human philosophies and traditions, we are taken “captive” (Colossians 2:8, ESV). Although Christ has set us free, it is possible to be enslaved again with a yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1; compare Acts 15:10).

In short, accepting unbiblical teachings means rejecting Christ, because those who buy into false teachings have, unfortunately, adopted a different gospel and have accepted human authorities over the authority of Scripture (see Galatians 1:6-9). This was a danger in the early church and remains so today.

What has been your own experience with what it means to die to self in order to receive Christ? Why must that be a continual process?

10: Complete in Christ — Singing with Inspiration

February 28, 2026 By admin

The great lesson we learn from dear Paul this quarter is that we are to
Stand Up! Stand Up For Jesus! – Hymn 618. This is a beautiful theme hymn to give us a great reminder of what we need in our world that is falling apart these days.

Our Sabbath afternoon introduction reminds us clearly
Don’t Forget The Sabbath – Hymn 388.

Sunday helps to understand this more with “God’s wisdom and the teaching of the Bible”:
Give Me The Bible – Hymn 272.

Once we have learned more from the Bible, Monday then encourages us to say
O Let Me Walk With Thee – Hymn 554 and
O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee – Hymn 574. This in turn helps us to say
All To Jesus, I Surrender – Hymn 309.

Wednesday’s study is completed, once again reminding us
Don’t Forget The Sabbath – Hymn 388, as is what our dear Sister White says on Friday.

The choice hymn for Thursday comes from the last sentence in our study: “Christ Himself is the fountain from which springs of the Scriptures as taught by Paul and the other Bible writers”:
There Is A Fountain – Hymn 336.

Please continue to search the scriptures this week to be blessed, and to bless others.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org/Search and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Truth Conquers Evil

February 28, 2026 By admin

Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. Matthew 10:34.

The question has been asked, How can there be agreement between the statement, “I came not to send peace, but a sword,” and the song sung by the angels when Christ was born in the manger at Bethlehem, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”? The song of the angels is in harmony with the words of the prophet Isaiah, who, when he predicted the birth of Christ, declared Him to be the Prince of peace. The gospel is a glorious message of peace and goodwill to men; the blessing that Christ came to bring was that of harmony and peace. He left His throne of glory, and clothed His divinity with humanity, that He might bring back from apostasy to loyalty to God the children of men, and bind their hearts together and to the heart of Infinite Love. He came to present to a fallen world the remedy for sin, so that whosoever should believe on Him should not perish, but by becoming one with Him and the Father should have everlasting life….

The condition of the world at the time when Christ came into the walks of humanity was no exceptional condition. At that time the Scriptures had been buried beneath human traditions, and Christ declared that those who professed to interpret the Word of God were ignorant both of the Scriptures and of the power of God….

Christ presented to His countrymen and to the world brightness, beauty, and holiness, the divine nature, by which they might be bound close to the heart of Infinite Love. He brought light into the world to dispel spiritual darkness and to reveal truth…. The truth, which was to restore and renew, is a destroyer of evil; and when evil is persistently cherished, it becomes a destroyer of the sinner also….

Sinners’ perversity, their resistance of the truth, makes the mission of Christ appear to be what He announced to His disciples—the sending of a sword upon the earth; but the strife is not the effect of Christianity, but the result of opposition in the hearts of those who will not receive its blessings.

From the first presentation of Christianity to the world, there has been a deadly warfare instituted against it…. Those who suffer for the truth know the value of a pure gospel, a free Bible, and liberty of conscience.—Bible Echo (Australia), March 12, 1894.

Dear Friends,

When Esther was six, we moved to Washington state. For a few weeks, while I was looking for a place to live, we lived in a hotel. While there, Eileen, who is ten years older than her sister, took Esther down to the hotel’s Jacuzzi. They really liked the warm bubbly water. Being so tiny, the force of the water caused Esther to slip under the water. Eileen quickly grabbed her little sister, and all seemed to be well. However, later all was not well. Esther got meningitis. I always wondered if it was because of swallowing some of the Jacuzzi’s water.

I was very thankful when my little girl eventually recovered and seemed to suffer no ill effects from her illness. How happy she was when she and her brother could play in the fields behind the house that we had rented. There were lots of tall weeds in the field and they pretended they were in a jungle. There was only one trouble. Esther was always getting prickers from those weeds in her eyes. At the time we did not realize that the meningitis had left her very far-sighted, so the natural inclination to blink when something gets close to the eye was not there.

Many times I had to remove those tiny specks from her eyes. One time I could not get one of those nearly microscopic prickers out. It had stuck into her eyeball. I immediately took her to the emergency room and by using a strong magnifying glass, the doctor was able to remove the offending object. Then he gave me some ointment to put into her eye. How she hated that ointment! She did not really understand why she needed it. All she knew was that it stung. She would run away from me and hide when it was time to put it into her eye. It was quite a challenge to find her. She was very good at hiding. She could curl up into a tiny ball in some out-of-sight place, hold very still, and be very quiet; but eventually I would find her and put the stuff in.

Just as that eye salve was necessary for Esther’s recovery, so our Great Physician counsels us to receive Heavenly eye salve from Him. He pleads, “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.” Rev 3:18 The eye salve that He offers sometimes hurts and stings as we see our true condition—“wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.” Rev 3:17 This eye salve He longs for us to have gives us the discernment we need to detect the devises of the enemy of souls. It helps us to see the snares he lays for our feet.

How much we need the Heavenly eye salve to see the true path. The devil uses many ways to counterfeit the genuine. He has his agents to lead people into the wrong paths. Our Dear Saviour warns us, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Matt 7:15 He explained that in the last days there would be many deceivers, many deceptions. “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” 24:24 How much we need the spiritual eye salve that the True Witness offers, that we might not be taken in by one of these deceivers.

May we ask our Great Redeemer for the eye salve that He so freely offers, that we may obey His Holy Word is my prayer.

Pathfinders Might Be the Best Thing We’ve Ever Done

February 28, 2026 By admin

For a surprising number of people who leave the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the one ministry they still speak about warmly is Pathfinders. Not the prophecy seminar. Not the tent campaign. Pathfinders. For kids roughly ages 10 to 15, it may be the most developmentally intelligent expression of Adventism we have. Those are the years when […] Source: https://atoday.org/pathfinders-might-be-the-best-thing-weve-ever-done/
