8: The Preeminence of Christ — Teaching Plan

February 14, 2026 By admin

Key Thought: It is Jesus, who is also God the Creator, that we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins, Jesus delivers us from the power of darkness into the realm of light.
February 21 , 2026

1. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 10:1-4, Colossians 1:15-17.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. What does Hebrews tell us about Jesus’ pre-existence before He was born into humanity?
  3. Personal Application: Could an angel or exalted created being die for the sins of the whole world? Why not? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “If Jesus is God and the image of God, then why is He called the firstborn over all creation? How would Jesus be called the firstborn unless He was created at sometime in the past?” How would you respond to your relative?
    (Note: Firstborn here means the most important one, not the first one to be born. Jesus was neither born nor created in longtime past by God. The Bible is clear that He existed from the beginning. Micah 5:2, Isaiah 9:6 and is eternal. Like Melchizadec, He has no beginning nor end).

2. Have a volunteer read Ephesians 1:22, Colossians 2:10, and 1 Corinthians 11:3.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What does the head mean in this passage? What does Paul mean when He calls Jesus the head of the church
  3. Personal Application: Why is it important for every person in the church to be aware of their spiritual gifts and use them? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Jesus went back to heaven and is the invisible head of the church. But He gave Peter the keys to be the visible head of the church on earth. So the sucession of the popes provide a visible presence of Jesus to the church to determine doctrine and keep unity within the body.” How would you respond to your relative?

3. Have a volunteer read Colossians 1:18-20.

  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What is the connection between Christ being the head and the beginning?
  3. Personal Application: How do we change our mindsets and habits to make sure Jesus has the preeminence as head in our lives? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “How does Jesus death on the cross reconcile us to God? What is the main focus of this message and the underlying implications that stem from this idea?” How would you respond to your friend?

4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 10:1-4, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2.

  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. What do these texts tell us about Jesus and His existence before His birth?
  3. Personal Application: How do you explain the trimity from the Scripture to someone who doesn’t understand? Share your thoughts.
    (Note: Matthew 3:16,17 – Jesus is in the water, the Father speaks from heaven, and the Holy Spirit is in the air between heaven and earth in the form of a dove. I John 5:7. Genesis 11:7, John 10:31-33, John 14:8,9)
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.

(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared. ”Ministry of Healing, p. 148).

The Intimate and Sacred Privilege of Suffering With Christ

February 14, 2026 By admin

Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. Colossians 1:18 NLT

Several Years ago, a friend of mine and I went to the Bodies exhibit at the MOSI Museum in Tampa, where we saw real bodies on display. One of the exhibits featured a nerve that ran from the small toe up the spinal column to the brain. The moment the toe was injured, the message shot to the brain, which felt the pain instantly.

A Father's Love

As I studied this exhibit, I thought of Colossians 1:18: Jesus Christ is the head of the church, and we are His body. I realized that just as the brain feels pain the moment the smallest body part is injured, so when the smallest member of the body of Christ is hurt, Jesus, Who is the Head of the body, is the first to feel the pain.

No wonder why Jesus told Saul on the road to Damascus, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!” Acts 9:5 NLT. Jesus felt the pain of every member whom Saul persecuted. This is why Satan targets followers of Jesus.  Satan wants to hurt Jesus, and he knows the best way to hurt Jesus is to hurt the members of His body. There is consolation in this truth.

Many of us have experienced pain, trials and persecutions that others do not understand. This makes us feel lonely and isolated. But when we share in Jesus’ pain and persecution, we grow closer to Christ in understanding and gain an intimacy with Him that the world will never understand. This may be why Paul said,

I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead! Philippians 3:10 -11NLT

Just like the toe cannot feel pain without the brain feeling pain, likewise, the smallest member of the body of Christ cannot hurt without Christ, Who is the Head, hurting with us. The toe cannot feel pain alone, and you cannot feel pain alone either. As soon as you are hurt, Christ is right beside you, sharing your pain. Or, since Satan is really trying to get at Christ, instead of saying He shares our pain, could it be said that we share His pain? If so then Jesus, Who had to tread the winpress alone, with no one to help Him, (Isaiah 63:3) is now no longer alone. Millions of persecuted saints are right there with Him.

Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. 1 Peter 4:13 NLT

Because of the connection between the little toe and the brain, neither the brain nor the toe is ever alone. Neither ever cries alone. Likewise, because of the connection the smallest member of the body of Christ has with Christ Himself, neither the smallest member nor Christ Himself ever cries alone in pain. We have a constant companion in our sufferings and in our glorious victories,

Sunday: Image of the Invisible God

February 14, 2026 By admin

Daily Lesson for Sunday 15th of February 2026

When we look in the mirror or at a photograph, we see an image of ourselves, but it is a flat, two-dimensional portrayal. In some respects, a sculpture gives a clearer idea yet still falls far short of the living, breathing, animated reality. The biblical concept of image, while sometimes referring to these lesser representations, suggests something broader still.

Read Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 5:3; 1 Corinthians 15:49; 2 Corinthians 3:18; and Hebrews 10:1. Summarize the various meanings of “image” in these passages. How might they differ from the description of Jesus as the image of God?
God the Father With the Son

Human beings were created to be as much like God as possible—physically, spiritually, relationally, and functionally. Still, they reflect God’s image in certain aspects only, and sin has damaged even that. But Jesus enables us to “see” the invisible God. “He who has seen Me,” Jesus said, “has seen the Father” (John 14:9, NKJV). He is “the exact imprint” of God’s nature (Hebrews 1:3, ESV). He is God’s thought made audible and God’s character made visible.

Read Matthew 11:27 and John 1:1-2,14,18. Why is Jesus uniquely able to reveal the Father?

Note other ways in which Jesus described His relation to God the Father:

• “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working” (John 5:17, NKJV).

• “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30, NKJV).

• “No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6, NKJV).

Jesus also repeatedly described Himself in an absolute sense in terms of God’s name: “I AM” (see Exodus 3:14); “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35); “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12); “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11,14); “I am the resurrection, and the life” (John 11:25); “I am in the Father, and the Father in me” (John 14:11); and “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58).

If Jesus were anyone other than God Himself, what would it mean except that the Father sent some created being to die for us? Why is that so radically, and crucially, different from God Himself, in the Person of Christ, dying for us?

EDITORIAL: Sometimes, There Are No Good Answers

February 14, 2026 By admin

Last Saturday night in Alberta, Canada, a bus carrying Pathfinders from the Grand Prairie Adventist church hit slick ice and rolled over. Many Pathfinders were injured, and one of the Pathfinder leaders, a young mother named Lillian Banda, was killed. The club was coming back from the Pathfinder Bible Experience (aka Bible Bowl) in Edmonton, […] Source: https://atoday.org/editorial-sometimes-there-are-no-good-answers/

Adding and Multiplying

February 13, 2026 By admin

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 2 Peter 1:2.

We are not to trust in our faith, but in the promises of God. When we repent of our past transgressions of His law, and resolve to render obedience in the future, we should believe that God for Christ’s sake accepts us and forgives our sins.

Darkness and discouragement will sometimes come upon the soul and threaten to overwhelm us, but we should not cast away our confidence. We must keep the eye fixed on Jesus, feeling or no feeling. We should seek to faithfully perform every known duty, and then calmly rest in the promises of God….

We may not feel today the peace and joy which we felt yesterday, but we should by faith grasp the hand of Christ, and trust Him as fully in the darkness as in the light.

Satan may whisper, “You are too great a sinner for Christ to save.” While you acknowledge that you are indeed sinful and unworthy, you may meet the tempter with the cry, “By virtue of the atonement, I claim Christ as my Savior.” …

If we would permit our minds to dwell more upon Christ and the heavenly world, we should find a powerful stimulus and support in fighting the battles of the Lord…. When the mind has been long permitted to dwell only on earthly things, it is a difficult matter to change the habits of thought. That which the eye sees and the ear hears, too often attracts the attention and absorbs the interest. But if we would enter the city of God, and look upon Jesus in His glory, we must become accustomed to beholding Him with the eye of faith here….

Sanctification is a progressive work. The successive steps are set before us in the words of Peter: “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.” … Here is a course by which we may be assured that we shall never fall. Those who are thus working upon the plan of addition in obtaining the Christian graces, have the assurance that God will work upon the plan of multiplication in granting them the gifts of His Spirit.—The Review and Herald, November 15, 1887.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
How I loved to listen to my grandfather’s wonderful stories of the long-ago days when he was a boy in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He explained in detail how he was able to live off wild edibles and the fish he would catch on a fishing hook and a line always carried in his pocket wherever he went. His fishing pole was nothing more than a supple branch from a nearby tree. He told of the drainage holes along the floor of the area’s covered bridges that were just right for letting down his line into the river below but afforded him protection from the elements. Those descriptions of the covered bridges fascinated me. I had seen covered bridges, but never the kind he described.
In 1976, we were living in rural Pennsylvania, and my grandfather’s stories seemed to come alive. One day, my mother came for a visit. We decided to take her for a long drive to show her the beauties of the area around our home. As we drove farther and farther, we began speaking of Grandfather’s stories as everywhere we looked there was something to remind us of them. Soon we came to a lovely little park nestled in the mountains. My mother wanted to stop, so we pulled the car to the side of the narrow road and began to walk in among the trees.
The central attraction of this park was an ancient covered bridge. We were delighted! We walked quickly down the path and entered the bridge. As we explored every nook and cranny, my mother wondered aloud if her father had fished from there. We laughed at the thought, yet his description of this bridge was so exact that it seemed a real possibility. As we stopped by one of the rectangular drainage holes, we talked about how he had fished from ones just like it.
Suddenly my mother shouted! We had kept walking along the bridge, but she had stayed to gaze out over the water. We hurried back to see what she was so excited about. Pointing to the railing, she said, “Daddy always carved his name wherever he went. Look here!” There, carved in the railing, was the name “Ed Harmon.” Even after all those many years it was still plainly visible. The letters were about an inch and a half tall and started out very deep but became shallower toward the end. He must have gotten tired of his carving, just as any kid would. My grandfather, sometime in his early teens, had fished from that very bridge! What a precious experience!
Just so, on every tree and leaf and flower, our Great Creator has left His Name for us to discover. As we look at the beauties of this earth, even after 6,000 years of sin, we can see His tender care for every part of His creation. As we look up into the sky on a crisp cool night and see the billions of stars above us, we think of the words of the Psalmist, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge.” Ps 19:1, 2 As we gaze upon those same stars and galaxies David saw, we anticipate the delightful discoveries that await us when sin and sinners shall be no more.
The majestic mountains remind us that “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” Deut 32:4 The clear flowing streams that we walk along here, are a foretaste of the “river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” The lovely trees that shade us from the sun’s rays, make us long to eat from “the tree of life which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month.” Rev 22:1,2
Think of it! The “LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it,” is the very One Who gave His life that we may live eternally. (Isa 45:18) Our Loving Saviour left all the glories of Heaven, lived a life of poverty and hardship, suffered all the hatred of wicked men spurred on by demons; so that someday we may dwell in His glorious kingdom where “God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” Rev 21:4 “O Praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD. Ps 117
May praise to Jesus be upon our lips as we discover the signature of our Redeemer upon His creation is my prayer.
