Tuesday: Many Arose With Him

November 7, 2022 By admin

“Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many” (Matthew 27:51-53, NKJV).

What does this incredible account teach us about the resurrection of Jesus and what it accomplished?

An earthquake marked the death of Jesus (Matthew 27:50-51), and another one marked His resurrection (Matthew 28:2). At the moment Jesus died, “the earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people” (Matthew 27:51-53, NIV). These saints were raised glorified as witnesses of Christ’s own resurrection and as prototypes of those who will be raised at the final resurrection. Thus, right after the resurrection of Jesus, many of the Jewish people were given powerful evidence to believe in His resurrection and thus to accept Him as their Savior, which many did, including many priests (see Acts 6:7).

“During His ministry, Jesus had raised the dead to life. He had raised the son of the widow of Nain, and the ruler’s daughter and Lazarus. But these were not clothed with immortality. After they were raised, they were still subject to death. But those who came forth from the grave at Christ’s resurrection were raised to everlasting life. They ascended with Him as trophies of His victory over death and the grave. … These went into the city, and appeared unto many, declaring, Christ has risen from the dead, and we be risen with Him. Thus was immortalized the sacred truth of the resurrection.” — Ellen G. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 786.

Humanly speaking, the chief priests and elders had great advantages. They held the religious power of the nation and were even able to convince the Roman authorities and the crowds to help them with their schemes. But they forgot that “the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes” (Daniel 4:32, NASB). Their lies were contradicted and invalidated by the existence of those resurrected saints.

No matter how bad things can get now, why can we trust in God’s ultimate victory for us as we still struggle in this fallen world?

<–Monday Wednesday–>

Amen!(1)

Without Excitement

November 7, 2022 By admin

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. Acts 1:6, 7.

The disciples were anxious to know the exact time for the revelation of the kingdom of God; but Jesus tells them that they may not know the times and the seasons; for the Father has not revealed them. To understand when the kingdom of God should be restored was not the thing of most importance for them to know. They were to be found following the Master, praying, waiting, watching, and working. They were to be representatives to the world of the character of Christ.

That which was essential for a successful Christian experience in the days of the disciples is essential in our day. “And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” And after the Holy Ghost was come upon them, what were they to do? “And ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:7, 8).

This is the work in which we also are to be engaged. Instead of living in expectation of some special season of excitement, we are wisely to improve present opportunities, doing that which must be done in order that souls may be saved. Instead of exhausting the powers of our mind in speculations in regard to the times and seasons which the Lord has placed in His own power, and withheld from men, we are to yield ourselves to the control of the Holy Spirit, to do present duties, to give the bread of life, unadulterated with human opinions, to souls who are perishing for the truth.

Satan is ever ready to fill the mind with theories and calculations that will divert men from the present truth, and disqualify them for the giving of the third angel’s message to the world.—The Review and Herald, March 22, 1892.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
When I first started going to church during my teen years, I heard a term that I had not heard before. The members spoke of the “blessed hope.” This phrase was taken from the passage in Titus 2:11-14, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
As I thought about this phrase, I realized how truly the glorious appearing of Jesus is the blessed hope. This sinful old world is full of disappointment and heartache, pain and suffering, death and destruction. There is no true hope in the future on this sinful, old planet. Speaking of this, Paul quotes from the hundred-second psalm, “thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed.” Heb 1:10-12 Praise God, our Merciful Saviour promises to bring an end to sin and suffering. He assures us, “be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 16:33; 14:1-3 Precious promise!
Someday soon, our Great Redeemer will rescue us from all of our trials and take us to a glorious place where “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Cor 2:9 Peter assures us, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” 2 Peter 3:9-14
May that wonderful day come soon John speaks about in Revelation 20-22 when the blessed hope will be reality! May we long for it with all of our being, for we will not be disappointed with the glories of that fair land. May we be filled with joy unspeakable when “God shall wipe away all tears from [our] eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Rev 21:4
7: Christ’s Victory Over Death – Teaching Plan
November 6, 2022 By admin
Key Thought: The belief in Christ’s resurrection is essential to the plan of salvation and the Christian faith and encourages us in the hope of our resurrection at the second coming..
November 12, 2022
1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 27:62-66.
  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
  2. How did the actions of the Romans help provide more evidence that Jesus had arisen?
  3. Personal Application: How does Jesus’ resurrection prove that He had life unborrowed and underived and was the eternal God? Share your thoughts..
  4. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Why did they seal the tomb and put Roman guards around the tomb? Did they think the disciples might steal the body and claim He was alive? Did they think He might actually arise?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Matthew 27:51-53.
  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. Who were the first ones to see the resurrection of Jesus?
  3. Personal Application: What was the significance of the temple curtain being torn from the top to the bottom at Christ’s death? Share your thoughts
  4. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why did only some people come up out of the graves at Jesus’ death and resurrection? Why didn’t all come forth? Did those who were raised die again, or did they go to heaven with Jesus?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read John 20:11-29; I Corinthians 15:5-8..
  1. Ask class members to share a short thought on the key idea of these verses.
  2. How do the disciples first react when they meet the risen Christ?
  3. Personal Application: Even though you haven’t seen, what reasons do you have for believing in a risen Christ? Share your thoughts.
  4. Case Study: One of your neighbors states: “Why did Jesus show the disciples the holes in His hands and sides? Was it to prove that He was human and not a spirit? Why would He still have the scars? Couldn’t He heal His own body from the wounds?” How would you respond to your relative?
4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:20.
  1. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
  2. How is Christ the first fruit of those that slept, since others had been raised from the dead in the Old Testament?
  3. Personal Application: Who are the twenty-four elders before the throne? Were they the ones resurrected with Christ? Share your thoughts?
  4. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
(Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Its blessings can be retained only as it is shared.”Ministry of Healing, p. 148).
Amen!(0)
7: Christ’s Victory Over Death – Singing with Inspiration
November 6, 2022 By admin
The theme hymn for this quarter’s studies “On Death, Dying and the FUTURE HOPE” is
Hymn 214 – We Have This Hope.
Sabbath’s introduction talks of the crucifixion and death of our dear Jesus. The emotion that comes to us is uttered in
Hymn 154/155 – When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.
The Sealed Tomb (Sunday) we question in
Hymn 158 – Were You There? and
Hymn 317 – Lead Me To Calvary. The tomb is shattered, unable to hold our Savior in
Hymn 170 – Come, You Faithful
,
Hymn 171 – Thine Is The Glory, Hymn 340 – Jesus Saves where we sing triumph o’er the tomb, and
Hymn 205 – Gleams of The Golden Morning.
It is with adulation and triumph we read “He Is Risen?”:
Hymn 526 – Because He Lives,
Hymn 166 – Christ The Lord Is Risen Today,
Hymn 176 – Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise and once again
Hymn 171 – Thine Is The Glory.
Just as “Many Arose With Him” (Tuesday), so we look forward to the resurrection morning because
“I Know Whom I Have Believed – Hymn 511. This is shown again on Wednesday.
Because of what Jesus did for each of us,
Good Christian Friends, Rejoice! – Hymn 173. Ahhhh, yes,
Thine Is The Glory – Hymn 171.
Today we look forward to Jesus coming again. Oh, what a day that will be
When We All Get To Heaven – Hymn 633.
To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/
Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.
 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Amen!(0)
