10: Jesus Opens the Way Through the Veil – Singing With Inspiration

February 27, 2022 By admin

The titles of the thirteen Sabbaths of study this quarter give us two hymns to use as the themes:
Hymn 593 – In Times Like These and Hymn 177 – Jesus, Your Blood and Righteousness.

On Sabbath afternoon, the book of Hebrews tells us of “the ascension of Jesus to heaven” and this is sung in:
Hymn 182 – Christ Is Alive (verse 4),
Hymn 228 – A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing (verse 1),
Hymn 378 – Go, Preach My Gospel (verse 4),
Hymn 408 – Lord, Enthroned in Heavenly Splendor,
Hymn 415 – Christ the Lord All Power Possessing and
Hymn 417 – O Solemn Thought.

Sunday tells of the blood Jesus shed for me,
Hymn 177 – Jesus, Your Blood and Righteousness, then he rose
Hymn 148 – O Love How Deep How Broad, and is again now before the Father.

God’s invitation asks us to consecrate our lives to Him:
Hymn 330 – Take My Life and Let It Be. We then wish to follow in the footsteps of Israel of old and see God’s glory:
Hymn 435 – The Glory Song but not have Israel’s lack of faith:
Hymn 533 – O For a Faith. As God tried to teach Israel, we ask today
Hymn 193 – Savior, Teach Me as we see
God’s Free Mercy Streameth – Hymn 110.

It is with awe and wonder we see that as Christ died on Calvary, the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom:
Hymn 178 – The Unveiled Christ.

With all that Jesus has done, and is doing for us,
My Faith Has Found a Resting Place – Hymn 523 as I need no other evidence. We have in front of us
The Name That Brings Salvation – Hymn 646.

Our earthly history shows that we have our anchor in Jesus:
Hymn 534 – Will Your Anchor Hold? so that we will soon be able to see Jesus
Face to Face – Hymn 206.

Hold on, dear people as we are
Marching to Zion – Hymn 422, that beautiful City of God where “we will celebrate it (Feast of Booths) with Jesus” – Thursday’s closing remark.

As “the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples” (Friday), so we ask to be rekindled today in
Hymn 269 – Come Holy Spirit as
The Spirit of The Lord – Hymn 261 is revealed to each of us.

We are bound for The Promised Land! Hallelujah!! –
Hymn 620 – On Jordan’s Stormy Banks. Come, Lord Jesus, come – very soon.

To learn unknown hymns, you will find the accompaniment music for each one at: https://sdahymnals.com/Hymnal/

Another great resource is for when there is a hymn you wish to sing, but can’t find it in your hymnal. Go to https://www.sdahymnal.org and in the search bar type a special word in that is in the hymn. I am sure you will be amazed at the help you will be given.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Amen!(0)

Monday: God’s Invitation

February 27, 2022 By admin

Read Hebrews 12:18-21. What was the experience of Israel at Mount Sinai?

When God called Israel from Egypt, His plan was to create a personal, intimate relationship with them. He said, “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself” (Exodus 19:3-4, NKJV).

Thus, through Moses God gave the necessary instructions to prepare the people to meet with Him. The people needed to consecrate themselves first (Exodus 19:10-15). Those who ascended to the foot of the mountain without preparation would die. Nevertheless, once the people had prepared themselves for two days, then “when the trumpet sounds a long blast” on the third day, God instructed that the people “shall come up to the mountain” (Exodus 19:13, ESV). He wanted them to have the experience Moses and the leaders of the people would have when they ascended the mountain and “beheld God and ate and drank” in His presence (Exodus 24:9-11, ESV). The people later recognized that they had seen God’s glory and that it was possible for God to speak “with man, and man still live” (Deuteronomy 5:24, ESV). But, when the moment came, they lacked faith. Moses explained years later: “you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain” (Deuteronomy 5:5, ESV). Instead, they asked Moses to be their intermediary (Deuteronomy 5:25-27, compare with Exodus 20:18-21).

God’s manifestation of His holiness at Mt. Sinai was to teach the people to learn to “fear,” or respect, Him. The “fear of the Lord” leads to life, wisdom, and honor (Deuteronomy 4:10; compare with Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 9:10, Proverbs 10:27) — and also to learn that He is merciful and gracious (Exodus 34:4-8). Thus, while God wanted Israel to come to Him, the people became afraid and requested Moses to be their intermediary. The description in Hebrews of the events at Sinai follows primarily Moses’ reminding the people of their lack of faith and their apostasy with the golden calf, and how he was afraid of meeting God because of their sin (Deuteronomy 9:19). The people’s reaction was not God’s plan for them; it was, instead, the result of their faithlessness.

Because of Jesus, why should we not be afraid to draw near to a holy God? What are the conditions, however, for us to be able to draw near?

Amen!(1)

Spirituality and Seventh-day Adventists

February 26, 2022 By admin

26 February 2022  | What is Biblical spirituality? Seventh-day Adventists speak of spiritual experience, of feeling God’s presence, but in practice much of our spirituality seems rooted in doctrines and interpretation. Ellen White encourages us to experience God, but also says we shouldn’t trust feelings and experiences. Our top church leaders warn against meditation and […] Source: https://atoday.org/spirituality-and-seventh-day-adventists/

Sunday: Jesus Before the Father

February 26, 2022 By admin

Read Hebrews 9:24. According to this passage, what was the purpose of Jesus’ ascension to heaven?

God instructed Israel that their males should go three times every year up to Jerusalem to “appear before the Lord” with an offering. The appointed times were the feast of Passover (Unleavened Bread), the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), and the Feast of Booths (Exodus 23:14-17, Deuteronomy 16:16). Passover celebrated Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. Pentecost celebrated the barley harvest and, by the time of the New Testament, it was associated with the giving of the law at Sinai. The Feast of Booths celebrated God’s care for Israel during their sojourn in the desert. According to the New Testament, all the Old testament feasts also have prophetic significance.

Hebrews 9:24 describes Jesus’ ascension into the presence of the Father. He arrived at the heavenly sanctuary, “the true one,” in order to “appear” before God with a better sacrifice (Hebrews 9:23-24, NIV) — His own blood.

Jesus fulfilled the pilgrimage feasts’ prophetic significance with amazing accuracy. He died on the day for the preparation of the Passover at the ninth hour, the moment in which Passover lambs were sacrificed (John 19:14, Matthew 27:45-50). Jesus was resurrected on the third day and ascended to heaven to receive assurance that His sacrifice had been accepted (John 20:17, 1 Corinthians 15:20), when the priest was to wave the sheaf of ripe barley as the first fruits (Leviticus 23:10-12). Then, He ascended 40 days later to sit at the right hand of God and inaugurate the new covenant on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:1-2:47).

The purpose of pilgrimage in ancient Israel was to “behold the face of God” (Psalm 42:2, NRSV). This meant to experience God’s favor (Psalm 17:15). Similarly, the Hebrew expression to “seek the face of God” meant to ask God for help (2 Chronicles 7:14, Psalm 27:8, Psalm 105:4). This is the sense, in Hebrews, of Jesus’ ascension. Jesus ascended to God with the perfect sacrifice. Jesus ascended to heaven also as our forerunner into the presence of God (Hebrews 6:19-20). He has made real the promise for the believers who journey “seeking a homeland,” desiring “a better country” looking “forward to the city … whose architect and builder is God” (Hebrews 11:10, Hebrews 13-16, NRSV).

Again, why should the reality of what Christ has done, not only on the cross but what He is doing now in heaven, give us assurance of salvation?
