For several years you’ve heard the story of Mindoro, Philippines, and the miracles of God’s amazing grace on that island. Now let me tell you a story from Mindanao, a sister island plagued by rebel groups that is also being reached by God’s grace. Rivo joined the Mindanao New People’s Army at a young age. He thought the government was evil, and he wanted a revolution to give the power back to the people. His passion soon made him a great leader, and he became a feared and ruthless fighter. The government took notice of his activities and set out to capture him. But one day, Rivo captured a government soldier. There was something different about this soldier, and Rivo soon learned what it was: he was a Seventh-day Adventist. Rivo and his men were cruel and hardened rebels, but despite their best efforts, they could not break the Adventist soldier. After trying unsuccessfully to turn him, Rivo finally had him killed. But Rivo could not forget the soldier he had so mercilessly murdered, and peace eluded him. Then one day, he discovered a radio program that reminded him of the soldier. He was drawn to listen every day, and the more he listened, the more he wished for a different life. But that seemed an impossible dream for him.
