Daily Lesson for Tuesday 18th of June 2024

In the last days, the great controversy will be played out, in a dramatic way, over worship. Do we worship the Creator, or do we worship the beast and its image? There is no middle ground. The first angel of Revelation 14:1-20 urges men and women to “ ‘worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water’ ” (Revelation 14:7, NKJV). In further support of heaven’s appeal, the third angel reveals the dire consequences of worshiping the beast: “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation” (Revelation 14:10). By contrast, those who worship the Creator are described as keeping “the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12, NKJV).

Creation is the basis of true worship (Revelation 4:11). Since God “created all things through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 3:9, NKJV), Satan hates the Creator and has attempted, through earthly powers, to change the Sabbath, the memorial of Creation (Daniel 7:25). The coming conflict over the law of God focuses on authority. If Satan can eradicate Sabbath worship, he will declare that his authority is greater than God’s authority. To accomplish this, Satan will attempt to convince or coerce the entire world to accept a counterfeit Sabbath.

However hard it may be now to see this happening, as we have noted before, the world is changing dramatically. The COVID-19 crisis showed us that, overnight, our world can become a different place. Though we don’t know the details that lead to the mark of the beast, it’s not terribly hard to imagine. The world is very unstable, and with the amazing technology out there now, what the Bible warns about can, indeed, come to pass more quickly than we might now imagine.

Those who are faithful to Christ, as opposed to following the beast and its image, will face economic penalties as well as the threat of death. Humanity remains what it has always been: corrupt, power-hungry, and violent. However much we don’t yet know about exactly how the final events will unfold, it should not be too hard to envision end-time persecution. Though written in another context completely, these words in John say it all. Talking about Jesus, John wrote that He “had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man” (John 2:25, NKJV).

“Jesus wants to take us through the storms of life and get us home”, says Sabbath afternoon’s introduction for our week of study, giving us 
Hymn 528 – A Shelter In The Time Of Storm. It is “Christ’s strength to take us through earth’s final conflict and get us home”: 
Hymn 626 – In A Little While We’re Going Home.

Sunday gives us courage that God’s Word is Truth: 
Hymn 203 – This Is The Threefold Truth, 
Hymn 272 – Give Me The Bible so we can then sing 
Hymn 273 – God, I Have Made Thy Word My Choice.

We are “Sealed for Heaven” as we 
Don’t Forget The Sabbath – Hymn 388 all because 
We Love Thy Sabbath, Lord – Hymn 390.

As per previous weeks we are reminded once again 
O Worship The Lord – Hymn 6 and 
O Worship The King – Hymn 83. We pray to our Father in Heaven to keep singing 
O Brother, Be Faithful – Hymn 602.

As we pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out on this tired and crumbling old world, we plead 
Come, Holy Spirit – Hymn 269 and 
Hover O’er Me, Holy Spirit – Hymn 260 along with 
Hymn 268 – Holy Spirit, Light Divine and pray again 
Hymn 672 – Spirit Of The Living God.

Thursday gives us even greater courage to move forward and 
Sound The Battle Cry – Hymn 614 as we reach out to the world to 
Go, Preach My Gospel – Hymn 378.

The Great Controversy closing quote on Friday states 
O Brother, Be Faithful – Hymn 602 so that we are found to be 
Standing On The Promises – Hymn 568.

Key Thought: The prophetic messages of Daniel and Revelation are messages to help us through life’s storms. The purpose of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and ministry in Heaven’s sanctuary is to ensure we get home.

1. Ask class members to share a short thought on the most important point in this passage.
2. What common thread runs through these verses?
3. Personal Application: What assurance does Peter give regarding prophecy? Share your thoughts.
4. Case Study: One of you relatives states, “What will give us courage and strength to stand in the final crisis? What distracts us from studying God’s word/ Can we compromise truth for personal pleasure?” How would you respond to your relative?
