The Great Controversy Chapter 13: The Reformation in the Netherlands
This week, Pastor Ted Wilson discusses chapter thirteen of The Great Controversy, “The Reformation in the Netherlands,” in which Menno Simons, from one of the provinces of Holland, withdrew from the Roman Church and devoted his life to teaching the truth throughout the Netherlands and Northern Germany. Nowhere were the reformed doctrines more widely received than in the Netherlands, and sadly, nowhere did the believers endure more terrible persecution–even those who recanted their beliefs. As we consider the faithfulness of these believers, we once again see how thousands have been willing to die for their faith, rather than give up the truths they found in the precious Word of God. To learn more about Menno Simons, the Reformation in the Netherlands, and how it relates to our present experience, read The Great Controversy by Ellen White at https://greatcontroversyproject.org/. Adventist History: Two of the First Adventist Converts
This week in Adventist history, meet two of the first converts to the Advent message and the Sabbath, passionate supporters of Ellen White’s ministry—Heman Stetson Gurney and Eliza Stetson. Heman was born on January 28, 1818. In 1838, he read the writings of William Miller. Two years later, Joseph Bates shared a copy of the Millerite periodical, Signs of the Times, with him. Eliza, a widow, became his wife on May 14, 1853, and they had three children together. Michael Younker tells us more about this story on This Week in Adventist History.
